Chapter 33: It Doesn’t Matter, I Will Step In
The next day was Sunday, and there were no classes at the academy. The campus was still bustling with students coming and going, enjoying their youthful days.
On this day, Leo had no other plans. He made an appearance at the Crimson Flame team and then focused on training his body.
Getting used to the weighted leg and arm guards took time. The whole day, apart from eating and resting, he either ran or practiced swordplay.
And so, the pleasant weekend passed.
On Monday, when he arrived in the classroom, Leo, as usual, was not disturbed by anyone. Caroline and Locke acted as if nothing had happened, which suited him just fine.
After school, he went to the Crimson Flame team, and all the team members were present except for the captain, Nathan.
“Senior Heles, is there a mission?” Leo inquired. He had spent more than half of his gold coins, and if he didn’t take on some missions soon, life would become tight again.
Heles replied, “Don’t worry, Nathan was called by the academy. It seems there is an important mission arrangement. I heard it’s a large-scale mission that many teams from the academy will participate in.”
The others immediately perked up. Jin said, “Could it be that a beast tide is coming? I remember last year, due to the outbreak of the beast tide, the Adventurers’ Guild was insufficient in strength and sought help from the academy.”
“Who knows? Just wait and see,” Heles shrugged.
Time passed leisurely during their tea time.
Nathan finally returned and said, “Just in time, everyone is here. Starting tomorrow, there will be a very important large-scale mission. The mission may last for several days, so everyone should prepare the necessary items today, such as weapons, equipment, and potions or scrolls.”
“Stop keeping us in suspense. What exactly is the mission?” Heles urged.
Nathan’s expression was somewhat serious. “Subjugation of a dragon!”
“Subjugation of a dragon!?”
Everyone in the room was taken aback.
“Has a dragon appeared? Dragons are legendary monsters. Even an immature dragon is stronger than an ordinary S-class monster. How could we students possibly defeat a dragon?” Mona stood up excitedly.
“It’s worth the challenge. My great sword has yet to taste the blood of a dragon,” Heles said, eager to try.
“No, no, there’s no room for your great sword to shine,” Mona immediately replied. “And do you even understand dragons? The terror of dragons is completely different from the wyverns we hunted last time.”
“What does it matter? I believe my wives won’t lose to a dragon,” Jin said.
“Don’t mention your wives to me,” Mona said with a dark expression. None of these two were normal. Fortunately, there were three new members; she believed they should be able to understand her.
Yuris put his hands in his pockets. “It doesn’t matter, I will step in.”
He looked up, looking down on the world. “Only such prey can showcase my strength.”
This person is hopeless.
“I heard that dragons have very strong defenses. I want to try cutting through dragon scales,” Leo also looked forward to it. Most importantly, subjugating a dragon would surely come with rich rewards.
Listening to these two, Mona helplessly rubbed her forehead. This team was really going to be finished.
“Senior Mona, don’t be anxious. Captain Nathan should still have more to say,” Michelle smiled to comfort her.
“Although it’s a dragon, it’s just a young dragon, so its strength is probably only S-rank,” Nathan continued.
“That’s still very dangerous, okay?”
“This isn’t just a mission for our small team. The academy spent a great deal to obtain this mission from the Adventurers’ Guild. This time, it will be led by academy teachers, with four official teams: Empire’s Sun, Holy Radiance, Forest, and Flying Wing teams as the main force for the subjugation. Our Crimson Flame team will have some other strong teams assisting.”
“That sounds better.”
Mona considered the feasibility and nodded.
“So that means it won’t be our turn,” Leo said, very disappointed.
The dragon is full of treasures, and it was obvious they wouldn’t get a share.
“What a pity!” Yuris also looked regretful.
“What does it matter? We can just steal it,” Jin said.
“My wife agrees,” he added.
Mona looked at these two and the unreliable old teammates, her heart was screaming in frustration.
Hey, hey, that’s a dragon! Do you really think you have a chance to defeat it?
Is it you who are abnormal, or am I the one who is abnormal?
Could it be that I am the one who is abnormal?
Mona suddenly thought of this possibility and was inexplicably hit hard, her expression stiffening.
“It’s okay, Senior Mona. Everyone has their own thoughts. I also think subjugating a dragon is too dangerous,” Michelle gently patted her shoulder, smiling to comfort her.
Is this girl an angel?
It was as if a beam of light had shone into Mona’s reclusive heart.
Nathan continued to introduce the mission, “The young dragon has raised a large group of monsters as its subordinates, among which several powerful monsters have been infused with dragon blood, making them very strong. Our selected assisting teams mainly need to deal with the monster horde so that the main force can focus on subjugating the young dragon.”
“The young dragon is strong, so there is a certain level of danger. We need to stay vigilant. The mission rewards will naturally be very generous. Each participating team will receive one hundred gold coins provided by the academy before the start, and the rewards will be distributed according to contributions after the mission ends. The academy is determined to succeed this time. As long as we don’t actively engage the dragon, there won’t be any life-threatening danger.”
“However, why is the academy spending such a great cost to subjugate a dragon, and even specifically snatching the mission from the Adventurers’ Guild?” Jin voiced his doubts.
After thinking for a moment, there were indeed some unreasonable aspects.
“It’s just a rumor, but I heard that this time the academy is specifically using it to test the results of the adventure internship, to assess the strength of each team, and to adjust the adventure internship system accordingly. It also has something to do with this year’s new students,” Nathan shared the information he had gathered.
“What does that have to do with us?” Leo was somewhat puzzled.
“This year’s new students have talents far beyond previous years. Not only is there the prodigy of magic, Caroline, the imperial prince, Corik, including your sword saint disciple, Yuris, the youngest candidate saintess of the church, Michelle, as well as princes and princesses from other countries, and genius students from the elf, dwarf, and orc empires.”
“This generation is the most brilliant one, and it is also the generation with the highest probability of the chosen ones appearing. These people will all join the subjugation team, and the academy is also trying to understand your potential.”
When Nathan learned this information, he was also quite shocked. It was as if they had drained the luck of several previous generations.
“How terrifying, this generation really has a lot of monsters. As an ordinary person, I am truly unfortunate to be living in this era,” Leo sighed, feeling the road ahead was tough.
Yuris: “(°ー°〃), o(一︿一+)o”
Others: “(﹁﹁)~→”
Michelle: “(*^-^*)”
Nathan ignored him and continued, “So this mission is very important. The academy’s notable figures, the first candidate saintess of the third year, Selena, the imperial crown prince, Dante, and the student council president are all present. They will lead the team, and these people all possess S-class strength. In addition, the academy will also arrange several S-class strength teachers to assist. This mission is basically a sure thing.”
