Chapter 55: This Beautiful… Female
That day, the Crimson Flame team went outside to carry out a mission.
“Leo, Yulis, you two attack from the side to assist me.”
Captain Nathan was commanding the battle.
Their opponent was a giant snake, over twenty meters long.
The surface of the giant snake’s skin was smooth and elastic; Nathan’s sword bounced off when it struck.
Magic attacks hitting it were also weakened.
In the team, Nathan, Leo, and Yulis took the lead in close combat, while Heles, Michelle, Mona, and the recently joined Krista provided support from the back with ranged attacks.
Jin stayed in the center, summoning black knights and other monsters to join the fight. As a summoner, his own strength was weak, so he needed to stay in the middle of the team, making it difficult for monsters to attack him whether they came from the front or back.
After the new members joined, this was the first time the entire Crimson Flame team participated in combat.
The academy’s ranking battle was approaching, and Nathan was very proactive, organizing members to practice their cooperative combat skills. In the coming weeks, Nathan planned to take on many missions to improve the team’s synergy.
Under the assault of the group, the giant snake, which was only A-ranked in strength, finally fell. Jin skillfully stepped forward with a small knife to collect useful materials.
“Continue moving forward.”
This giant snake was not the mission target; it was just a monster encountered along the way. Their goal was to collect flame crystals from the volcano’s crater.
Flame crystals contain a strong fire element and are essential materials for many one-time offensive magical items.
However, many powerful monsters inhabit the area near the volcano, and there might even be S-ranked monsters present.
With four new members who all had strong talents joining, especially Krista, whose magical prowess had impressed the team, Nathan decided to take on some challenging missions.
This mission was rated A in difficulty; although it seemed low, its danger and rewards were comparable to S-ranked missions.
The team would eventually take on S-ranked missions, but they needed to wait until all members were proficient, starting with some challenging A-ranked missions to practice.
“Something is coming.”
Leo reminded.
In the grass, an unknown creature was moving quickly, and everyone heightened their vigilance, ready to fight at any moment.
Suddenly, a white long-eared rabbit appeared.
“So cute!”
The girls had no resistance to such a cute creature, and Mona was particularly fond of it.
“This is a treasure rabbit; it can not only detect traps but also find treasures. It can locate some precious plants and metal ores, and most importantly, this is a female rabbit.”
Jin’s eyes sparkled; as a summoner, this creature was very appealing to him.
Hearing that there was no danger, everyone relaxed their guard. Nathan said, “Let’s continue moving forward.”
Unexpectedly, Jin immediately dashed out, coming in front of the rabbit, holding a carrot in his hand, “This beautiful female, can we form a marriage contract?”
Leo was stunned by Jin’s bold move, standing there in shock.
He thought Jin only treated humanoid summoned creatures as wives, but it turned out his hunting range was quite broad.
He glanced sympathetically at Mona, seeing her look of despair; it really wasn’t easy for her.
“Huh? Is this guy out of his mind?”
Krista doubted she had heard correctly.
“He’s a bit delusional.”
Mona’s eyes were dull; she had given up on any hope.
“Senior Mona, don’t be sad; Jin must love you the most.” Michelle comforted from the side.
“I don’t know why, but hearing you say that makes me feel even sadder.”
“Eh?” Michelle tilted her head.
The treasure rabbit jumped up from the ground, kicked Jin on the head, and then quickly ran away.
“Jin, you got rejected again.”
Heles teased, using a recording magic to capture this rare scene.
Seeing her skillful manner, it was likely not her first time doing this.
Jin lay on the ground, smiling helplessly.
“Ahem! Let’s hurry up and go.”
Nathan urged; to be honest, he felt a bit embarrassed; Jin’s behavior was somewhat shameful.
On their way to the volcano, they dealt with all the monsters they encountered, and there were a few more instances of Jin’s “proposals.”
Surprisingly, he succeeded once, forming a “marriage contract” with a storm giant eagle.
A flying monster that could carry people; this significantly improved the team’s aerial combat capabilities.
It was hard to tell; regardless of Jin’s personality, his contributions were indeed substantial. When the team only had four members, Jin’s summoned monsters greatly compensated for their lack of combat power.
The team finally approached the volcano, and a group of lava giant lizards appeared ahead.
Their crimson skin was as hard as rock, with cracks glowing red, resembling flowing magma, emitting heat.
“Strange, why are these lava giant lizards so strong?!”
Nathan was puzzled; the nearby monsters seemed to have become stronger, and he felt something was off.
“Recently, there have been reports from many places saying that the number and strength of monsters have greatly increased, and many adventurer teams have suffered casualties. Given this situation, something ominous is likely to happen. We should report what we found here to the academy.”
Heles’s expression was somewhat serious.
This group of lava giant lizards numbered over a hundred, and it was important to note that each one was at least B-ranked in strength; a careless mistake could lead to disaster.
In the past, the strongest lava giant lizards were only C-ranked, and their numbers were few; this current situation was unimaginable.
“So what if they are B-ranked? They don’t pose any threat to me.” Krista crossed her arms defiantly.
“The fire resistance of lava giant lizards is very high; you can only talk big now.”
Yulis was a bit annoyed that his words were interrupted.
“This isn’t just talk; I will conquer you with my strength.”
“Ridiculous; the only one who can conquer me is myself.”
These two were equally proud, clashing like needles against wheat.
“Ice Storm!”
Mona used water-based ice magic; icy winds swept over, covering the lava giant lizard in a layer of frost. The originally scorching body cracked due to the sudden drop in temperature, and lava-like crimson blood flowed out as the lava giant lizard let out cries of anguish.
“Senior Mona’s magical talent is quite impressive.”
Leo, who had never seen Mona’s strength before, looked at her with newfound respect.
“Hmph, of course! You should know that before you all came, I was the magician and support in the team.”
Mona proudly lifted her head.
Dealing with the lava giant lizards became much easier after that; without their hard skin for defense, their strength dropped to C-ranked, and within a quarter of an hour, the lava giant lizards were cleared out.
The team passed through a tunnel and entered the volcano.
“So hot!”
The temperature kept rising, and they were sweating, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Next to Leo, Michelle used cooling magic, restoring the temperature in the space where the team was.
As the team approached deeper, they exited the tunnel into a vast cavern filled with crimson flame crystals, radiating light.
As long as they mined them, the mission would be complete.
But it wasn’t that easy; in the darkness, pairs of scarlet eyes lit up.
