Chapter 60: On the Correct Way to Restore Magic
Leo leaned against the rock wall, the side effects of surpassing his limits combined with his injuries caused tearing pain all over his body, and his right hand was almost incapacitated, a deep fatigue surged from his heart.
“No, I still need to help Michelle!”
Leo forced himself to focus, bit his tongue, and struggled to stand up, but after just a few steps, he collapsed to the ground.
Damn it!
How frustrating!
Leo slapped the ground with his left hand.
So weak! I’m so weak!
Self-blame and regret clashed in his heart.
Even dealing with a magic user who wasn’t good at close combat nearly cost him his life; how could Michelle possibly deal with the stronger enemy?
If only he were a bit stronger, this situation wouldn’t have happened.
He originally wanted to keep Michelle away from danger, but now he had put her in front of an even more terrifying enemy.
“Michelle, are you okay?”
Leo tried to communicate with Michelle, hoping against hope.
After a moment, he heard Michelle’s reply, “I’m fine, I’m on my way back. Where are you now?”
“I’ve reached the exit, I’ll guide you.”
Hearing the girl’s clear voice, Leo finally relaxed his tense heart. He endured the stabbing pain in his brain and used his sword heart clarity, but he could only see a blurry scene.
What a dead end.
Sleepiness washed over him, and Leo cut off the mental communication, his head becoming fuzzy.
“I’m sorry, I need to rest for a while; I can’t help you for now. I hope you’re okay.”
This sentence didn’t get conveyed; it was just his murmuring.
In the blur, he seemed to see that white figure.
It must be an illusion.
Leo found it amusing; how could Michelle appear here?
As he pondered, his consciousness drifted far away.
…
Half an hour ago.
Michelle, following Leo’s instructions, learned the method to open the door from the cultist.
Upon opening the door, she found many items inside, including her staff and sword.
Although the sword wasn’t as important as the staff, it was still a legendary weapon.
Tap tap tap!
Footsteps sounded from outside.
Someone was approaching, and Michelle immediately heightened her vigilance.
A woman walked in from outside, holding a staff identical to Michelle’s.
Is this a fake?
Michelle quickly realized that the staff in the woman’s hand was fake.
Hiss hiss hiss!
The staff suddenly transformed into a black snake, opening its fangs wide to bite at her.
Michelle immediately slashed at the black snake with her sword, cutting it in half; the severed body still wriggled, showing its strong vitality.
Although the staff was fake, fortunately, the sword was real.
During this time, she had made significant progress in swordsmanship by learning from Leo, and now was the time to test her strength.
Little did she know, the woman directly threw the staff to her.
Michelle instinctively caught it, confirming multiple times that it was real and could use many secret techniques of the church.
She was immediately puzzled by the cultist’s intentions; why would she help her?
Ignoring her confusion, the woman vanished from her sight.
Michelle buried her doubts deep in her heart, deciding to investigate later; for now, the most urgent thing was to rush towards Leo.
In the corner of the room, she saw a pile of iron swords and hunting bows belonging to Leo and took them with her.
…
“Leo, wake up!”
A call came from her ear, and Leo opened his eyes to see a worried Michelle.
At that moment, he was lying on Michelle’s lap.
This scene felt strangely familiar.
“Strange? Did I cross over?”
His body felt a bit lighter, and his injuries had mostly healed, though his right hand still hurt a bit; it seemed he needed more treatment, but it wasn’t a big problem.
Although his body had recovered a lot, his strength had not yet returned; his magic and mental energy were severely depleted. Even though he was awake, sleepiness continued to invade him.
“What nonsense are you talking about? How do you feel now?”
There was some worry on her face, and he could see the tear stains on her cheeks.
“Miss Saintess, you didn’t cry, did you?”
Leo found it somewhat amusing.
Michelle hurriedly wiped her face and stubbornly said, “I didn’t!”
Leo was a bit surprised; he had just been joking, but seeing the Saintess like this, could it be true? No way!
“Ah! I’m truly a sinful man, making the Saintess cry.”
Leo put on a heartbroken expression.
“What a pity, I didn’t get to see it; what a huge mistake!”
Hiss! Ouch, ouch, ouch!
“Stop pinching, stop pinching.”
“Seeing you so spirited is really great.”
Michelle’s face broke into a smile, but her hands didn’t stop moving.
Oh no, Angel Michelle has fallen into Little Demon Michelle.
“Seriously, at a time like this, you still have the mood to joke around. Also, knowing there’s danger, why did you send me away?”
The Saintess began to complain unhappily.
“After all, there are two S-class strong enemies. If it were just one, we could still handle it together, but two is too much.”
He just didn’t expect that the other target was Michelle; it had all been calculated.
“Even so, I still want to face it with you.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Michelle felt a bit ambiguous, her face flushed, and she quickly corrected herself, “Even so, I won’t run away!”
Noticing that Leo’s expression was normal, she felt a bit relieved.
“Did you take care of that woman?”
Michelle being fine made him very happy, but at the same time, he was puzzled; he had seen her nearly half-dead after dealing with a magic user, yet the Saintess had come out unscathed.
Could it be that Michelle’s true strength was S-class?
This thought startled him.
Michelle shook her head and recounted what had happened earlier.
“So that’s how it is. The cultists have such a large force; they probably have factions. Letting you go might align with her interests. In any case, don’t think too much about it.”
“Yeah, I understand.”
Michelle nodded; after all, none of the cultists were good, they were the church’s mortal enemies.
“But I can’t believe you’re so strong, able to kill even an S-class magic user. That one is known as the ‘Demon Face’ terrifying magic user, who once caused a lot of trouble for the church, and yet you managed to deal with her.” Michelle expressed her amazement.
“That was thanks to your support magic; otherwise, even if I killed her, I would have died myself.”
“Don’t say such things.”
Michelle had finally managed to recover from her sadness and didn’t want to hear the word “death” again.
“Although I miss the feeling of the Saintess’s thigh, it’s time for us to go.”
This was still the enemy’s stronghold, and Leo reluctantly got up, his body still fatigued.
“Maybe I’ll have to trouble you next; my strength is basically exhausted, and I’ll just be a burden to you.”
“I know, give me your hand.”
Michelle took Leo’s hand with her small hand.
Feeling the tender touch from her palm, Leo momentarily lost his senses; it seemed like it was his first time holding a girl’s hand.
A warm magic flowed from Michelle’s palm into his body, warming him all over, making him feel incredibly comfortable. His body recovered a bit, and he didn’t feel as fatigued; even his depleted mental energy was replenished.
“This is magic restoration?”
Leo said seriously, “Miss Saintess, this method is incorrect; magic restoration shouldn’t rely on mucosal contact to reduce loss, right?”
Michelle pinched the soft flesh at his waist, skillfully twisting it.
Hiss!! Ouch, ouch, ouch!
Here we go again?
Although the Saintess didn’t hit him with her staff, it felt even more painful this way.
“It’s okay,” Michelle replied with a smile, “My magic hasn’t been depleted much, so I’m not afraid of wasting it.”
Michelle became increasingly skilled at twisting, and Leo wanted to escape, but his hand was caught by her.
Speaking of which, the pure Saintess actually understood what mucosal contact meant.
