I Open a Hospital in the Ming Dynasty Chapter 39

A Miracle Cure for Reviving the Dead

That night, the medical hall was bustling with activity as everyone gathered together, intensively discussing the results of the day’s research. They occasionally furrowed their brows in deep thought, and at other times, they debated fiercely, completely unaware of how the time was quietly slipping away.

Finally, after a round of brainstorming, they had temporarily sorted through the results of the day’s findings. When they looked up, they realized it was already as dark as the bottom of a pot. Everyone was exhausted, their backs aching, yawning non-stop.

Ming Yi rubbed his temples and suggested, “Why don’t we all stay at the medical hall for the next few days? It’ll be easier to discuss the case. The men’s dorm has five bunk beds, we can make do with that.”

Wei Lan nodded and replied, “The women’s dorm is very empty, it’s just me and Xiao Hua. How about we invite a few kids to sleep with us? The upper and lower bunks are narrow, it’d be a bit cramped for just two.”

She thought to herself, when working at the hospital, the general surgery duty room was often mixed with both men and women, and everyone was used to it. Now, with more people, there was no harm in letting Sanqi, Banxia, and the others, who were younger, sleep in the same room—it would even be livelier.

Moreover, the medical hall was full of familiar faces, and they knew each other well. This made it far more reassuring than sharing a room with unfamiliar colleagues at the hospital.

As soon as Wei Lan said this, Shun Xing’s eyes immediately brightened, like a cat sniffing meat, and he eagerly responded, “Good idea, I’ll go!” He thought to himself that this way, he could be closer to Wei Lan and always be by her side—this was an opportunity he couldn’t miss.

A few of the young apprentices had initially wanted to join the women’s dorm to have some fun, but when they saw that Shun Xing had beat them to it, they silently lowered their heads, muttering to themselves that their boss was too quick, they couldn’t compete.

Ming Yi, hearing Wei Lan’s suggestion and seeing Shun Xing’s eager expression, half-smiled and said, “Shun Xing, you’re not a kid anymore, you’re fourteen. You’re almost the same age as Xiao Lan, so how about you squeeze in with me instead and don’t disturb them while they rest?” Ming Yi’s words were lighthearted, but there was an underlying hint of displeasure as he sensed Shun Xing’s subtle interest in Wei Lan.

Shun Xing, still grinning, lowered his voice like a whisper and said, “Brother Ming Yi, if the sister doesn’t mind, why should you? Besides, I’m fourteen now, I’m at the age where I’m growing. I really can’t stand the smell of sweat when I’m in the same bed as you.” As he finished, he exaggeratedly wrinkled his nose and waved his hand as though he could already smell something unpleasant.

Ming Yi was taken aback by his behavior, raising an eyebrow with a helpless tone, “Fine, do as you like.”

Immediately, Shun Xing swapped to a completely innocent smile, looking like a well-behaved child as he turned to Hong Hua and said, “Sister Hong Hua, you won’t mind, will you?”

Hong Hua smiled gently and replied, “I don’t mind.” She thought it was just a playful joke among the children.

Wei Lan, seeing this, smiled and said, “Alright, alright, everyone hurry and get ready, let’s rest early. We’ll be busy again tomorrow.”

After Wei Lan quickly tidied herself, she returned to the women’s dorm. The room was peaceful and quiet. Hong Hua was soundly asleep on the bed closest to the wall, breathing evenly, clearly in deep sleep. Yong An, who had been inseparable from Shun Xing since childhood, was curled up on the bed next to Hong Hua’s, sleeping soundly as well. As for Shun Xing, he had moved his bedding next to Wei Lan’s bed, lying still, seemingly asleep as well.

Wei Lan, accustomed to modern hygiene habits and dealing with many patients daily, had a strict routine of bathing and changing clothes. Others weren’t so particular. So, after she finished washing, she entered the room to find everyone already in bed, immersed in deep sleep.

The small lamp on her bedside table emitted a soft glow, casting a warm and cozy atmosphere over the room.

Wei Lan immediately noticed that her bed had been carefully arranged by Hong Hua. The sheets and blankets had been replaced with fresh ones, making the bed look soft and fluffy. There was also a faint scent of soap pods lingering in the air—natural and pure, with no trace of chemicals.

Feeling a warm surge of gratitude, Wei Lan was deeply touched by Hong Hua’s thoughtful care. She quietly approached her bed, blew out the lamp, and the room was immediately engulfed in silent darkness.

Wei Lan carefully lay down, not wanting to disturb anyone, murmuring a “Good night” before closing her eyes and slowly drifting off into a peaceful slumber.

Shun Xing patiently waited for a long time, then finally opened his eyes. The room was pitch black, and after a moment of adjusting, he could make out the shape of the room.

At that moment, Wei Lan was lying beside him. Even in his dreams, he had never imagined such a wonderful scene. He silently sat up and, using the faint moonlight coming through the window, carefully studied Wei Lan’s sleeping face.

She lay beside him unguarded, and a strange feeling surged within Shun Xing. How could he have earned her trust to this extent? This kind of trust seemed to have been imprinted between them from the very beginning.

Wei Lan’s long, thick eyelashes fluttered slightly under the moonlight. Shun Xing felt a strange itch in his palm, like when he saw a dragonfly fluttering as a child—a strong impulse to touch it. He reached out his finger, gently placing it on Wei Lan’s eyelashes, careful not to disturb her sweet dreams.

After confirming that Wei Lan’s breathing was steady and she hadn’t woken up, Shun Xing slowly withdrew his finger and lay back down. He closed his eyes, trying to calm the turbulent emotions in his heart, syncing his breathing with hers, gradually blending into the peaceful night.
