Chapter 4: The Little Mouth
The bodyguard chosen by Xia Nanxing couldn’t suppress the upward curve of his lips.
Accompanying the young miss in her schemes—earning hefty bonuses without risking his life—who wouldn’t be happy?
Xia Nanxing had inherited a massive fortune and shares from her mother, and with her heart condition, she wasn’t involved in the family’s inheritance battles. Having never experienced life-and-death struggles, her methods were child’s play at best.
“Go ahead, young miss. What do you want us to do?”
Xia Nanxing leaned back casually on the sofa and declared confidently, “First, send a few people to keep an eye on Xia Yingying. If she makes contact with anyone from the Lu family, make sure to take photos as evidence.”
“And then?” A Jin asked.
“Then leave the rest to me.”
With just a few words, she had everything arranged. Xia Nanxing pulled out her phone and started scrolling through financial news. Her allowance was all invested in Lu Huaijin’s projects—she had to stay updated. In the future, she wanted to be an early shareholder, ride the male lead’s success, and rake in dividends without lifting a finger.
The bodyguards exchanged glances. Seeing Xia Nanxing so self-assured, they figured she must have a solid plan and quietly went off to follow orders.
That very evening, A Jin returned with a stack of photos for Xia Nanxing.
“Young miss, Xia Yingying really did meet with someone from the Lu family. This person is the assistant of Lu Huaijin’s uncle. He handed something to Xia Yingying—looks like some kind of medicine.”
Given how Xia Nanxing had treated Xia Yingying, it was only natural that the Lu family would take notice.
Xia Nanxing picked up the photos and examined them carefully before praising, “Good job. This is exactly what I wanted.”
She knew this was part of the plot. But the system could only provide intel—it couldn’t interfere with reality.
The money she threw at Lu Huaijin? She had to personally squeeze it out of her dad.
The photos she wanted? She had to send her own bodyguards to take them.
From the stack, Xia Nanxing picked out the most incriminating one, snapped a picture with her phone, and prepared to send it to Lu Huaijin.
Seeing this, A Jin quickly warned, “Young miss, there’s definitely something fishy here. Xia Yingying may have accepted that medicine, but she doesn’t seem like someone who’d take money to do dirty work. When you offered her five million, she refused outright. Could it be that Xia Yingying is setting a trap?”
“Just to be safe, I still have to tell Huaijin-gege. But A Jin, I have another task for you. This time, I’ll allow you to spread some employer gossip. Make sure Xia Yingying’s rejection of my five million reaches the ears of Lu Huaijin’s uncle.”
Xia Nanxing shrugged, her expression innocent. “I can’t go too far and make Huaijin-gege angry. But I can let someone else do the dirty work.”
“Understood, young miss. We’ll give things a little push at the right moment—we’ll make sure Lu Huaijin never traces it back to us.”
“That’s more like it. Dealing with a mere Xia Yingying isn’t worth dirtying our own hands.”
A Jin nodded, eyes gleaming.
The young miss only lost her IQ points when it came to Lu Huaijin. When her love brain wasn’t acting up, her intelligence could still dominate.
Just as A Jin was mentally giving Xia Nanxing a thumbs-up for her ruthless remarks, she turned to see Xia Nanxing calling Lu Huaijin—using an ultra-sweet affected voice to tattle.
“Huaijin-gege~~ I just knew it! Since Uncle Lu is announcing you as the Lu family’s next heir at tomorrow night’s birthday banquet, someone in the family would get restless. See? Someone’s already showing their true colors. This Xia Yingying is no good person at all.”
Lu Huaijin had grown up outside the family and hadn’t received formal heir education. His becoming the Lu family heir had stirred discontent among many relatives. His uncle was the most vocal opponent, something Lu Huaijin had long anticipated.
When answering the phone, he was idly playing with the small bag of medicine Xia Yingying had given him.
He sighed helplessly and warned in a lowered voice, “Xia Nanxing, don’t act rashly. Yingying is helping me.”
Though this matter was confidential, Lu Huaijin wouldn’t deliberately make excuses to hide it from Xia Nanxing.
Xia Nanxing might be domineering and arrogant, but she would never harm him.
Even if his own parents abandoned him, Xia Nanxing wouldn’t.
Back when he was adrift and bullied by classmates and that fake young master, Xia Nanxing had already firmly stood by his side—her loyalty never wavering all these years.
Unfortunately, that spoiled young lady temperament of hers made it impossible for him to like her. Even though Xia Nanxing had retracted her claws in his presence, it still wasn’t enough.
Since Xia Nanxing had already taken photos, Lu Huaijin didn’t mind revealing part of his plan to enlist her cooperation. But before he could speak, he heard her displeased voice through the phone.
“You actually call her Yingying! I forbid you to address her like that!”
Idiot! Was that really the main issue? Lu Huaijin sneered and hung up directly.
His assistant, observing the situation, cautiously asked, “Young Master Lu, will Miss Xia cause any trouble?”
“Don’t worry. With me here, she wouldn’t dare act recklessly,” Lu Huaijin stated confidently.
Xia Nanxing stared at her abruptly disconnected phone and laughed wryly.
[He didn’t even try to coax me, yet expects me to obey obediently. What does he take me for? Even a devoted follower has dignity, you know.]
[Yes, Host, you’re absolutely right.]
[System, will Lu Huaijin’s uncle mess things up? What’s that medicine he gave Xia Yingying? Is it the “I’m so hot, help me” kind?]
[No. It’s hallucinogenic. They want Lu Huaijin to behave erratically during his birthday banquet. He’s already prepared to retaliate in kind.]
[I really don’t understand what Lu Huaijin’s uncle is fighting for. He’s mediocre himself and childless—wouldn’t living comfortably on dividends be better?]
[Unknown. The main plot doesn’t cover this.]
Xia Nanxing supposed that made sense. If this world operated flawlessly, there’d be no need for her existence.
“Whatever, I’ll stop overthinking. An early beauty sleep—gotta stay flawless till the grand finale tomorrow.”
Maintaining her wealthy heiress’s beauty and prestige required professional styling teams for every appearance. Twenty thousand vanished effortlessly. Had her haute couture gown not been booked half a year prior, today’s one-time appearance expenses might have neared two million.
With Xia Zhengyang freezing her cards, she was spending her private savings now. This incident further drained her already dwindling bank balance.
Money pit! Lu Huaijin was such a money pit!
Xia Nanxing’s heart bled, but her face remained impeccably composed.
“Looking this radiant today, Huaijin-gege will definitely notice me at first glance.”
Accompanying Xia Nanxing to the birthday banquet was Xia Wenbo, the son of Xia Zhengyang’s second wife. He scrutinized Xia Nanxing carefully, his eyes flashing with admiration.
Dressed in her finest, Xia Nanxing resembled a blooming peony, exuding an aura of opulence. Simply standing there, she radiated an air of wealth and nobility.
“Elder Sister is indeed beautiful, but Lu Huaijin must be blind.”
“Watch your mouth!!!”
“Shutting up.”
