“Miss Tang, do you and your husband think you’ve done such a perfect job that no one would ever find out?”
Gu Xicao cast a look of disdain at Tang Chu and Huang Fugui.
Huang Fugui, humiliated and angry, flushed red like a pig’s liver and snapped, “Don’t slander me! If you have proof, show it!”
“That’s right. Even the police need evidence to arrest someone. Show your evidence before you speak!” Tang Chu, standing behind her husband, seemed emboldened.
Lan Lianxin, however, looked at Gu Xicao with trepidation and hesitation. “Master Gu, this…”
“I don’t have evidence,” Gu Xicao paused, noticing the relief wash over Huang Fugui and Tang Chu’s faces. She then continued leisurely, “But there is one thing that can prove Huang Jiaye is not the son of Lan Lianxin and Boss Huang.”
“What is it? Master, please don’t keep us in suspense!” Huang Shiren was sweating profusely in anxiety.
Gu Xicao shrugged. “Alright, I’ll just say it. It’s about blood type. Both of you are Type O blood, correct?”
Lan Lianxin nodded. “Yes, we had medical examination abroad. We’re both Type O blood.”
“But Huang Jiaye is Type A blood,” Gu Xicao said. “Maybe you didn’t know, so let me explain. Mr. Huang and Miss Tang, two Type O parents can only have a Type O child. They can’t have a Type A child. If you want to know whose child Huang Jiaye really is, just go to the hospital for a test, and everything will be clear.”
Blood type?
Even Wang Laoshi was dumbfounded!
Lan Lianxin froze for a moment, then instinctively looked at Huang Jiaye. “There’s no need to go to the hospital. When Jiaye was young, he was often sick, so we’ve always known he was Type A blood. We just… we just didn’t realize it would mean this.”
Although Lan Lianxin and Huang Shiren were well-educated, they were unaware of this specific genetic fact. Even hospital staff might not always know such obscure knowledge.
Huang Fugui’s lips turned pale, trembling as he retorted, “That’s nonsense! What blood type? This is absurd! Brother, Sister-in-law, don’t be fooled by her lies!”
Huang Shiren’s face turned red with bulging veins as he breathed heavily, like an enraged bull. “Don’t call me brother! Be honest—did you switch the children? Is Xiaoyun really our daughter?”
“Brother, I… I…” Huang Fugui stammered, guilt and cowardice making him retreat.
Realizing the situation was turning against him, Huang Jiaye burst into tears, wailing as he flailed on the ground, hitting his legs. “Daddy, Mommy, I’m your son! I don’t recognize Uncle and his family!”
Huang Jiaye’s grandparents were heartbroken to see their chubby grandson crying like this. They rushed to comfort him—one picked him up, while the other wiped his tears. “Jiaye, don’t cry, don’t cry. Grandpa and Grandma are here for you.”
“Grandpa, Grandma, I only recognize Daddy and Mommy. Don’t let that worthless girl take them away from me!” Huang Jiaye cried while sneaking glances at Huang Shiren and Lan Lianxin through his fingers.
Huang Shiren’s expression darkened further.
Huang Miaoyun, standing nearby, was hugged by her fragrant aunt. Her body stiffened momentarily, unused to such intimacy. For a brief moment, she even felt as if the woman’s body was burning.
As large teardrops fell, Lan Lianxin’s heart, which had always felt a void, seemed to find its missing piece in that embrace.
“Yes, yes, you are our daughter. There’s no mistake—I knew it!”
“Aunt…” Huang Miaoyun’s voice was faint, like a kitten’s mewl.
Her hands hung awkwardly, unsure of what to do.
Huang Jiaye, his eyes red with anger, charged forward like a cannonball and shoved Huang Miaoyun aside. “Get out! Go away! If it weren’t for you, none of this would’ve happened. Daddy and Mommy are mine!”
Huang Miaoyun fell to the ground from the impact. The fall was hard enough to make other children cry, but she bit her lip and endured the pain.
Lan Lianxin’s heart ached even more. She had always been patient with children, even when her in-laws spoiled Huang Jiaye to the point of being unruly. She would calmly reason with him.
But now, she couldn’t hold back. She pushed Huang Jiaye aside and picked up Huang Miaoyun. “You shut up! From today onward, you’re no longer our child! Husband!”
Huang Shiren immediately stepped forward. Lan Lianxin wiped her tears and said to him, “Let’s go and call the police!”
“No, you can’t call the police!” Huang Fugui and his wife, along with Huang Jiaye’s grandparents, panicked. The four of them rushed to stop Huang Shiren and Lan Lianxin.
Amid the chaos, someone scratched Huang Miaoyun, making her cry in pain. Seeing his daughter hurt, Huang Shiren, who had been suppressing his anger, finally exploded. Though he wouldn’t hit women or elders, his deceitful, heartless brother was a different story.
Without hesitation, Huang Shiren punched his brother.
Huang Fugui, no stranger to hostility toward his more successful brother, was filled with resentment. Now that his wrongdoing was exposed, his guilt turned into anger. Seeing Huang Shiren hit him, he stopped pretending and retaliated with a low blow.
“You scoundrel! Fine, I’ll fight you to the death!”
Huang Shiren, caught off guard, scrambled to protect himself. Seeing the regretful expression on his brother’s face, his fury reignited.
The two brothers started brawling on the ground.
Neither Huang Jiaye’s grandparents nor Lan Lianxin could stop them. Seeing Tang Chu scratching her daughter’s hand with long nails, Lan Lianxin lost her temper and handed the child to Gu Xicao before lunging at Tang Chu.
Huang Jiaye’s grandparents were left standing there, utterly stunned. On one side, their sons were beating each other up. On the other, their daughters-in-law were pulling each other’s hair. They didn’t know what to do.
Fifteen minutes later, the police arrived at Huang Shiren’s house. They walked in to find this chaotic scene.
The officers froze, quickly grabbing Gu Xicao, who was comforting a child, and asking, “Miss, what’s going on here? Where are Mr. Huang and Mrs. Lan?”
“They’re right there,” Gu Xicao said kindly, pointing at the two groups of people brawling.
The officers were stunned. Scratching their heads, they murmured, “That’s odd. I’ve been here before—Mr. Huang and his wife seemed so refined. I never thought they’d get into a fight.”
And with their disheveled hair and bruised faces, it was hard to even recognize them.
Gu Xicao smirked meaningfully. “If you raised someone else’s child for years, only to find out your own child was mistreated and neglected, you wouldn’t stay refined either.”
The police didn’t quite understand what she meant but quickly stepped in to break up the fights before things escalated further.
Once the situation was under control and everyone was questioned, the story became much clearer.
Huang Fugui and his wife were taken into custody, and Huang Jiaye’s grandparents had to go along as well. Huang Shiren and Lan Lianxin, as the victims, went to the station to file reports.
Gu Xicao and Wang Laoshi accompanied them as witnesses.
By the time everything was wrapped up, it was already late afternoon. Huang Shiren and Lan Lianxin held their daughter tightly and insisted on driving Gu Xicao and Wang Laoshi home.
Gu Xicao politely declined. “There’s no need. We’ll take a cab. You’ve had a lot to deal with today, and you’ll be busy for a while. Besides, your daughter seems quite shaken. You might want to take her to the hospital for a check-up.”
Lan Lianxin immediately looked concerned. “Master, is something wrong with Xiaoyun’s health?”
Huang Shiren also looked anxiously at Gu Xicao.
Gu Xicao shook her head. “It’s nothing serious. Your daughter doesn’t have any major illnesses, just some minor issues like anemia and iron deficiency. The more serious problem is psychological. But with your love and care, these problems should resolve over time.”
Lan Lianxin’s eyes reddened, her heart aching as she held her child tightly. “Thank you, Master. If it weren’t for you exposing those scoundrels’ actions today, who knows how much longer my daughter would’ve suffered.”
Huang Miaoyun clumsily reached out to wipe her aunt’s tears, stammering, “Auntie, don’t cry.”
Wang Laoshi couldn’t help but feel moved. Turning to Huang Shiren, he said, “Mr. Huang, your wife and daughter have suffered greatly. Don’t forget who your real family is.”
“I’m not that foolish. Even if they’re my own parents, treating me like this makes them no different from enemies!” Huang Shiren gritted his teeth.
Wang Laoshi was reassured.
Today’s events had completely drained Gu Xicao. She didn’t even have the energy to go back to work. Deciding to take the rest of the day off, she went straight home.
“Miss Gu!”
As she approached her apartment building, Lin Qianshi hurriedly caught up with her, practically running.
Gu Xicao stopped and turned around, raising an eyebrow. “Mr. Lin, and this gentleman is…?”
Lin Qianshi hadn’t come alone. He had brought a middle-aged man with him. The man had a refined appearance, but his suit was worn somewhat casually, with the top few buttons undone, revealing a glimpse of his toned chest.
