On the drive back, she didn’t open the envelope out of modesty. It wasn’t until she got home that she and Lin Yuan opened it together. Inside were several documents, including one that clearly stated the address—18 Jardine’s Lookout.
Lin Yuan tilted his head curiously. “Sister, why doesn’t it mention an apartment unit?”
“Foolish boy, luxury homes are standalone villas. They don’t have unit numbers,” Gu Xicao explained.
“Luxury home? Sister, you own a luxury home now?!” Lin Yuan exclaimed in disbelief. “Aren’t those super expensive?”
They certainly were. But compared to billions of pounds, this was indeed a drop in the ocean.
Gu Xicao put the documents back into the envelope. The next day, Eliza’s team not only accompanied her to finalize the ownership transfer but also showed Gu Xicao and Lin Yuan around the villa.
The villa truly lived up to its name, built along the mountainside with an infinite sea view.
By the time they finished touring the massive estate, Gu Xicao’s legs were about to give out. Seeing her exhaustion, Miao Yu offered, “Miss Gu, you seem tired. Shall I call the driver to bring the car around?”
“That would be great,” Gu Xicao nodded slightly.
While Miao Yu went to contact the driver, Gu Xicao and Lin Yuan strolled out through the villa’s grand gates. The imposing entrance was lavishly designed.
As they stepped outside, Lin Yuan whispered, “Sister, I still can’t believe it. Are we really going to live here?”
“Do you want to?” Gu Xicao asked.
Lin Yuan thought for a moment before shaking his head firmly. “No. This place is beautiful, but it feels empty. I’d be scared of ghosts.”
Gu Xicao chuckled and patted his head. “Don’t worry. I don’t plan on living here either. Our little house may be small, but isn’t it warm and cozy?”
“Hey, don’t those people ahead look familiar?”
Gu Xicao turned her head and saw who was approaching. Her smile faded slightly.
It seemed fate loved to throw old enemies together.
She hadn’t expected to encounter Wang Xueli and Li Yali here of all places.
Both women were dressed in Chanel haute couture, carrying Hermès handbags. They approached with an air of superiority, looking Gu Xicao up and down.
Li Yali smirked. “What’s this, Master Gu? Did your client not arrange for a car to take you home after fortune-telling?”
“Yali, don’t be so blunt,” Wang Xueli said, covering her mouth as she laughed. “She’s from the mainland. She probably doesn’t even know how hard it is to get a cab in the hills and on the mountaintop here. Oh, my apologies. Does the mainland even have villas? Can you guys still afford to eat over there?”
“Miss Wang,” Gu Xicao said coldly, fixing her with a sharp gaze, “you talk as if your family has always been rich. Go ask your elders—weren’t they refugees who fled to Hong Kong a few generations ago? Maybe you should ask them if they could even afford food back then!”
“You!” Wang Xueli’s face turned red with embarrassment, and she was about to explode in anger.
Li Yali pulled her back. “Xueli, what’s the point of talking to her? She’s just a fortune-teller. Let’s not waste our breath. Why are you even standing in front of this mansion? This villa is something she could never afford, no matter how hard she worked in her lifetime.”
After saying that, the group burst into laughter, as if they had just heard the funniest joke in the world.
Although Lin Yuan didn’t recognize them, he could tell they were making things difficult for his sister. He immediately became angry and said, “Don’t think so highly of yourselves. This villa belongs to my sister.”
“Your sister’s? Everyone, listen to this! So, the little liar is following in the big liar’s footsteps. Do you even know who owns this villa, standing here spouting nonsense?” Wang Xueli sneered disdainfully. “This villa belongs to Lady Eliza, the English baroness. What does it have to do with you?”
Beep, beep—
A stretch Rolls-Royce drove up to the gate and honked twice.
Miao Yu stepped out from the passenger seat. Her eyes showed a hint of confusion when she saw Wang Xueli and her group, but she quickly walked over to Gu Xicao and said, “Miss Gu, the car is ready. We can leave now.”
“Miao Yu?” Wang Xueli recognized her and froze for a moment. “Aren’t you Lady Eliza’s assistant? What are you doing here?”
Miao Yu then recognized Wang Xueli. “Oh, it’s Miss Wang. I was assigned by Lady Eliza to assist Miss Gu with the villa transfer. Do you know each other?”
“Villa transfer? Which villa?”
Wang Xueli’s face darkened as she asked anxiously.
Miao Yu pointed to the villa behind Gu Xicao. “This one. Why?”
Wang Xueli didn’t respond, but her expression became extremely unpleasant.
Gu Xicao smiled faintly. “Well, isn’t this awkward? This villa just happens to be mine. And guess what? I didn’t have to work myself to death for it. Lady Eliza insisted on giving it to me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve had a long day touring the villa, and I’m exhausted.”
She then got into the car with Lin Yuan, settling into the back seat.
Wang Xueli and her group’s faces turned green with envy and frustration.
The next day, Gu Xicao received a call from Lin Qianshi.
The first thing he said was, “I’m really sorry. I heard Wang Xueli caused you some trouble.”
“You’re well-informed,” Gu Xicao teased. “But there’s no need to apologize. I didn’t suffer any losses.”
Lin Qianshi chuckled on the other end. “I know, but I feel responsible. After all, this trouble stems from my connection to her. I wanted to express my apologies.”
“How do you plan to apologize? By giving me money?” Gu Xicao raised an eyebrow as she responded.
Lin Qianshi laughed again. “If you want money, I could give you some. But I don’t think you’re someone who only cares about money.”
Gu Xicao: “…”
“You seem to know me so well. What’s this? Are you trying to woo me?”
Gu Xicao cut straight to the chase.
Lin Qianshi, who had been drinking coffee, choked at her words, coughing a few times before he said, “Miss Gu, don’t joke around. I’m several years older than you. I could be your elder brother, but being your boyfriend? That would be inappropriate.”
“I think so too. Great, now just tell me what you want,” Gu Xicao said lazily, leaning against her sofa while holding the phone.
Lin Qianshi decided to keep her guessing. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow, and you’ll see.”
Though curious, Gu Xicao agreed.
The next day, when she stood in front of the amusement park Lin Qianshi had taken her to, she fell silent. Taking a bite of her ice cream, she turned to look at Lin Qianshi and asked, “Young Master Lin, don’t you think bringing a girl to an amusement park is a bit cliché?”
“This is a new park built by our company. I wanted to experience it myself, but I thought it might be incomplete if I came alone. So, I invited you,” Lin Qianshi explained honestly.
Gu Xicao sighed. “So, I’m just here as a companion. Don’t you have any other friends in Hong Kong?”
Lin Qianshi thought for a moment and tilted his head. “Wouldn’t it be strange for two men to come to an amusement park together?”
He had a point.
Gu Xicao rolled her eyes.
Since she was already here, she decided to make the best of it. It wasn’t costing her anything, and she could have some fun. Why not?
“Help! Help! My son is missing!”
As soon as they entered the amusement park, they saw a couple near the entrance frantically grabbing people to ask for help.
“Have you seen my son?”
A staff member quickly came over to assist. “Sir, madam, please calm down. We have a lost child center here and can broadcast across the park. Could you tell us how old your son is and what he looks like?”
The couple’s eyes were red from crying. The husband wiped his tears and said, “My son’s name is Qiangqiang. He’s nine years old. He’s wearing a green sweater and black pants. Just now, he said he didn’t want to ride the roller coaster and wanted to rest at the café. We let him stay there, but when we came back after the ride, he was gone.”
“Yes! Miss, please, you must help us find him quickly. My son is very well-behaved; he wouldn’t wander off. Could it be human traffickers?” The wife’s voice trembled as her fear grew.
The surrounding crowd began to murmur among themselves.
The staff tried to reassure them. “Please wait a moment. We’ll make an announcement right away.”
Gu Xicao and Lin Qianshi joined the crowd to watch.
Soon, announcements echoed throughout the amusement park. “Qiangqiang, a nine-year-old boy… Your parents are waiting for you at the lost child center. Please come as soon as you hear this. If anyone sees Qiangqiang, please help bring him to the lost child center.”
The announcement repeated five or six times. Ten minutes passed, and while the crowd around them grew, there was still no sign of Qiangqiang.
Gu Xicao glanced around and overheard someone saying, “It’s been so long, and the boy hasn’t appeared. Could he have been kidnapped?”
“That’s unlikely. It hasn’t been that long. He could just be on his way.”
“You clearly don’t know. This park isn’t very big, and if someone had seen him, they’d have brought him over by now. At the very least, there’d be some news. The fact that there’s no information at all means he’s probably gone.”
The murmurs were loud enough for the staff to hear.
The couple’s faces grew increasingly pale.
The staff also looked visibly anxious. The amusement park had just opened, and losing a child on its premises would undoubtedly make the news. If that happened, it was certain to shut down.
Liu Suxiang, one of the staff members, felt on the verge of tears. She would rather disappear herself than have the child go missing.
“You’ve made so many announcements. Why hasn’t my son shown up? No, you need to shut down the park right now! No one should be allowed to leave!”
The husband, unable to stay seated, stood up and demanded.
Liu Suxiang hesitated. “We don’t have the authority to do that. How about I make another announcement, okay?”
“Another announcement? If it worked, my son would’ve shown up by now!”
The wife was furious. “It’s all your fault! Why didn’t you assign more people to watch over the children?”
Liu Suxiang was at a loss for words. They had made countless announcements at the entrance urging parents to keep an eye on their children. These parents had left their son alone to ride the roller coaster and still had the audacity to blame them!
