Chapter 149: Brother, It’s Really Not Necessary to Draw Your Gun (1/2)
While a policeman ran off to buy clothes for Shen Cheng, Shen Cheng naturally took over his post.
In the dead of night, before a pitch-black forest, a man, half-covered in blood, stood at the entrance… A normal person with any sense wouldn’t come near here, right?
Shen Cheng could even see the other policeman next to him shivering occasionally, though he wasn’t sure if it was from the cold…
After some thought, Shen Cheng pulled out his phone, searched for Yu Lan in his contacts, and made the call.
Soon, the call connected, and Yu Lan’s voice came through: “Have you found Ye Xi’s location?”
“… Right now, she’s beside me.” As Shen Cheng spoke, he glanced at Ye Xi.
Since leaving the forest with Shen Cheng, Ye Xi had remained silent, her thoughts unknown.
“Is that so? You’ve really worked hard.” Yu Lan’s relieved laugh came through the phone, but then his tone shifted as he asked, “What about those Forsaken ones near Ye Xi… how did it go?”
“None survived,” Shen Cheng said flatly, closing his eyes.
“…” There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Yu Lan’s slightly bitter voice replied, “This isn’t like you… Where are you now? I’ll send someone to clean up the mess. For the time being… just take a break.”
“Alright, understood.” Shen Cheng nodded, and after giving his current location, he hung up the phone.
“The Bio-Scientific Institute’s training methods were too gentle. With your abilities, you were bound to face these situations sooner or later,” Ye Xi said calmly after Shen Cheng put his phone away.
“…”
Shen Cheng remained silent, not responding.
Soon, the policeman returned with the clothes he had bought. Shen Cheng accepted them, thanked him, and then turned back to the forest.
Finding a spot, Shen Cheng was just about to change clothes when he suddenly heard movement behind him. Turning around, he saw Ye Xi had quietly followed him.
Shen Cheng smirked slightly, “Why are you following me?”
Ye Xi chuckled softly, “Watching over me is your mission, isn’t it?”
“Well… then turn around. I’m going to change,” Shen Cheng hesitated, waving his hand to signal Ye Xi to turn away.
“When I showed you my memories earlier, didn’t you already see me without clothes?” Ye Xi teased, her lighthearted tone making Shen Cheng feel awkward. Yet, Ye Xi merely laughed and obediently turned around.
After changing, Shen Cheng walked out of the forest with Ye Xi, nodded at the policeman who had bought his clothes, thanked him again, and headed toward the port.
