Chapter 32: The Researcher Who Raised an Owl (2/2)
Liu Su sighed and shrugged, saying, “We sent several teams to explore the Kunlun Mountains, but in the end, they all returned empty-handed.”
“So, your intelligence department really isn’t reliable…” Shen Cheng’s lips curled slightly. A dragon? Isn’t that something from myth? How could that be…
Then again, with the appearance of supernatural beings, aptitude users, and even extraterrestrial civilizations, whether or not dragons existed was a difficult question to answer definitively.
Suddenly, Yu Lan stopped in her tracks, and both Shao Silin and Liu Su’s expressions became strange.
“What’s wrong?” Noticing the change in atmosphere, Shen Cheng instinctively stopped as well.
“Nothing, just a really annoying person coming this way,” Yu Lan replied with a grinding tone that sounded like she was gnashing her teeth, leaving Shen Cheng with a puzzled expression.
“Lazy~ Lazy~” In the next moment, a man’s voice echoed from the distance down the corridor.
Shen Cheng turned his head and immediately saw a greasy, stubble-faced middle-aged man in a lab coat, sprinting toward them, shouting as he dashed toward the cold-faced Yu Lan.
A flash of rage crossed Yu Lan’s eyes. She slightly stepped back with her left foot and then swiftly swung her right leg up with a powerful roundhouse kick, landing squarely on the greasy man’s face. “Don’t call me by that name, you idiot dad!”
“Urgh!!” The middle-aged man’s face visibly twisted as he spun 720 degrees in the air before crashing into the corridor wall.
Sliding down the wall, the man gazed up at the ceiling with a hopeless expression. “It’s over… my daughter doesn’t love me anymore. I was the one who fed her since she was little…”
“Who feeds owl food to their daughter, you stupid dad!”
Shen Cheng’s mouth twitched slightly as he leaned toward Liu Su and whispered, “Is this the senior researcher you mentioned? Yu Lan’s master?”
Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Liu Su quietly replied, “Yes, this is Doctor Yan Jinfang, a crucial figure at the Bio-Scientific Institute. He’s responsible for developing the Specialized Agent terminal, that black phone you’ve seen.”
“And ‘Lazy’ was the name Dr. Yan gave to Yu Lan before she transformed into a Demi-Human…”
Well, it seemed Doctor Yan had a knack for naming things on par with Shen Cheng’s own talents.
Thinking of this, Shen Cheng couldn’t help but look at Yan Jinfang with a feeling of mutual understanding.
As the tension dissipated, Yu Lan crossed her arms and asked Yan Jinfang, “So, what are you doing here? Just came to see me?”
“Well… it’s time for Yaoyao’s medical check-up…” Yan Jinfang scratched his head awkwardly and smiled.
Yaoyao?
The moment that name flashed in his mind, Shen Cheng felt something tightly grab his right leg.
Startled, Shen Cheng looked down to find a little blonde girl, barely tall enough to reach his thigh, with a pair of drooping golden beast ears on her head, clinging to his leg.
At the same time Shen Cheng looked down, the little girl raised her head and gazed at him with light brown eyes. A pure, innocent smile spread across her delicate face as her fluffy little tail swayed back and forth beneath her dress.
“Big brother… you smell so nice!”
Her childish voice rang like a bell, and Shen Cheng felt as though his heart had just been struck by a heavy hammer, his face turning bright red.
