Chapter 62: The Forsaken Ones (1/2)
The action of wiping his back paused for a moment. Milk Tea said, “Because at that time, the rain wasn’t heavy. It didn’t really affect the ‘me of the past.’ I… I was waiting for someone. I thought that person would come find me, and I was afraid… afraid they wouldn’t be able to find me, so I didn’t take shelter. By the time I realized the rain was getting heavier and I should go for cover, I found myself unable to move.”
“……” Shen Cheng remained silent.
Seeing Shen Cheng not respond, Milk Tea continued, “At that time, I was really desperate. I thought I was going to die there… But in the end, someone still came to find me. When I heard you say in the Bio-Scientific Institute ward that you would take me away, I was really, really happy… so happy…”
Shen Cheng remembered very clearly that night; he was running around in the rain, holding an umbrella, looking for Sugar everywhere. Even if it weren’t for the situation involving Sugar, mistakenly believing that Milk Tea had taken cover, he would have just slept soundly at home. He wouldn’t have gone out in the heavy rain to pick up a cat girl who might barely survive.
What a silly cat…
The noises from next door continued, but over here, it suddenly became as quiet as still water.
Feeling uncomfortable from squatting in the same position for too long while wiping her back, Milk Tea stood up with a towel, intending to change her posture. However, due to squatting too long and her legs becoming numb, coupled with slipping slightly, she suddenly stumbled forward.
Shen Cheng only heard a soft “nya” cry, like a small animal’s whimper, followed by the sensation of something warm and soft tightly pressing against his back.
“Cough, cough, cough…” Shen Cheng felt a surge of heat rising within him. He hurriedly tried to take a few steps forward, but was held tightly by Milk Tea. “Don’t move! The… the towel is about to fall!”
Shen Cheng immediately stopped moving. “Then quickly wrap your towel properly!”
“W-wait… don’t move yet,” came Milk Tea’s trembling voice, sounding like she was about to cry. She tightened her grip on Shen Cheng’s waist, pressing her body even closer to his back to prevent the towel from falling.
Shen Cheng stared down at the surface of the hot spring water, desperately trying to empty his mind, lest something embarrassing erupted from his nose.
This… this is too much!
After what seemed like a long time, Milk Tea finally said timidly, “It’s… it’s wrapped…”
The warmth on his back suddenly disappeared, leaving Shen Cheng feeling a bit empty. He turned around just in time to see Milk Tea running out without looking back.
“Heh…” Shen Cheng chuckled bitterly as he watched her vanish. No longer in the mood to enjoy the hot spring, he quickly washed himself, dried off, and went back to his room to change.
Lying in bed, Shen Cheng had just been scrolling through his phone for a while when his expression suddenly tightened. His hand stopped moving as he focused his attention on listening.
Thanks to the enhanced senses of the Cat and Dog Demi-Human agents, Shen Cheng could even hear the sounds of the women playing in the hot spring from here.
But that wasn’t what Shen Cheng was listening for.
Through the walls, past the hot spring, all the way to the inn’s backyard…
“Ding—”
A very familiar sound. Shen Cheng remembered vaguely hearing it when he first arrived here, but he hadn’t paid attention at the time.
“Ding—” The sound came again. Shen Cheng was sure he wasn’t imagining it. The noise was sharp, as if something metallic was cutting through the air…
