Chapter 71: Shen Family (1/2)
The car drove along a road lined with maple trees on both sides, with red leaves quickly fading from view. The three cats in the back seat chatted and laughed while enjoying the scenery outside the window. Sitting in the front passenger seat, Lin Yuhui held Xue’er in her arms. She neither slept nor watched the scenery, but kept her eyes fixed on Shen Cheng’s side of the car window.
Outside Shen Cheng’s car window, a black sedan was driving alongside Shen Cheng’s vehicle.
Shen Cheng, of course, recognized this car. His lips twitched slightly as he rolled down the window.
Seeing Shen Cheng roll down his window, the other car followed suit. In the front passenger seat sat the black-haired catgirl, Liu Su, who looked at Shen Cheng with a half-smile.
In the driver’s seat was Shao Silin, whose narrowed eyes left Shen Cheng wondering if he could even see the road clearly, which made Shen Cheng feel slightly anxious.
“You Specialized Agents… do you seriously have nothing better to do all day?” Shen Cheng couldn’t help but sarcastically remark.
“We’re here on a mission this time,” Liu Su leaned against the car window and replied, “There are two parts to this mission. The first is to collect your and your family’s blood samples for genetic matching at the Bio-Scientific Institute. The second concerns the matter you mentioned, ‘The Forsaken Ones’.”
When mentioning The Forsaken Ones, Liu Su intentionally or unintentionally glanced at Lin Yuhui.
Liu Su knew very well that Shen Cheng wouldn’t want his assassination attempt to be known by those close to him.
Are they here to help me?
Thinking of this, Shen Cheng let out a sigh of relief. After all, Liu Su had much more experience than him.
As for Shao Silin… during the mission to eliminate Dawn, this guy had been slacking off the entire time, so Shen Cheng didn’t have much hope for him.
“You want to collect my family’s blood samples? Are you suspecting that they might have the same constitution as me?”
“Yes,” Liu Su nodded, replying, “Though the chances are slim, we still want to confirm.”
After pondering for a moment, Shen Cheng sighed and said, “I don’t really want my family involved in the affairs of the Bio-Scientific Institute.”
“Don’t worry, like I said, it’s just a confirmation. One Specialized Agent from the Shen Family is enough,” Liu Su explained with a smile.
Shen Cheng nodded, then suddenly asked, “By the way, is something going on at the Bio-Scientific Institute? I haven’t been able to get a response from Yu Lan no matter how many messages I send.”
Upon hearing this, Liu Su frowned. “Yes, there’s been quite a bit of trouble recently. But you don’t need to worry for now. Take a break for the next couple of days; once we return, you’ll likely be busy.”
“Alright,” Shen Cheng didn’t press further when he saw that Liu Su didn’t want to reveal more and continued driving.
“Speaking of…” Liu Su suddenly said while looking at the harmonious atmosphere inside the car, “It’s only been a few days, but it seems your relationship with the cat Demi-Human in your family has gotten a lot closer.”
“Eep—” Just as the words left her mouth, Milk Tea immediately covered her blushing face with her hands, as if embarrassed by what Liu Su had mentioned, leaving Liu Su puzzled.
Seeing this, Shen Cheng quickly changed the subject, “Liu Su, have you always been partnered with Shao Silin?”
“Yes, ever since I became a Demi-Human and joined the Bio-Scientific Institute, we’ve been partners for nearly five years.” Whether intentional or not, Liu Su also revealed her approximate age while answering.
Shen Cheng, who was driving, glanced at Shao Silin and Liu Su before turning his head and asking, “Why does it feel like your relationship isn’t very harmonious? You don’t seem like comrades who have been partners for five years, but more like ordinary colleagues.”
“Incompatible personalities,” Shao Silin answered. “I’ve always wanted to find a partner who’s as handsome and reliable as Boss Shen.”
Shao Silin’s compliment made Shen Cheng a bit embarrassed. “What about you, Liu Su? Is it for the same reason?”
“Yes and no. The main reason is…” Liu Su’s lips twitched slightly as she added, “This guy’s sexual orientation… is male.”
“…” After a brief moment of silence, Shen Cheng stiffly turned his neck, “You like… men?”
