Chapter 9: Why is a Cat Afraid of the Dark? (2/2)
Shen Cheng exclaimed, “…Don’t think about weird things!”
Clearly, it was just a cat. How did it understand so many strange things?!
After entering his bedroom, which he had not slept in for two nights, Shen Cheng closed the door, and the moonlight practically disappeared.
Turning his head, Shen Cheng’s heart skipped a beat in fright.
He saw that Sugar’s eyes had somehow lit up with a green glow and were now tilted in confusion at Shen Cheng.
“Master? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing… Nothing!” He reminded himself it was just a cat, and having night vision that causes eyes to glow at night wasn’t such a big deal.
Shen Cheng took a couple of deep breaths, squatted down at his locker, and started rummaging.
Right, you have night vision, so why are you afraid of the dark?!
Sugar came over and asked, “Master, what are you looking for?”
“A little desk lamp I used during school. I don’t need it now, so you can use it.” Sugar nodded. After a moment of silence, she suddenly buried her face in Shen Cheng’s neck, giving him a start.
“What… are you doing?”
“Master’s scent is really nice. Sugar really likes it.”
Hearing Sugar mention this for the umpteenth time, Shen Cheng felt puzzled.
It seemed like Cheese would also come up to him, sniff occasionally, and then show a face of enjoyment.
Hmm? Did he really have a physique attractive to catgirls?
Huh???
As Shen Cheng was about to ask more, Sugar pulled a desk lamp from the cabinet. “Master, is it this?”
“Ah? Yes, that’s it. Let me fix it for you.”
…
“Click—”
When he turned on the switch, a soft glow illuminated the small area around the desk lamp.
The warm yellow light wasn’t harsh at all; instead, it created a sleepy drowsiness.
“This is the desk lamp I used in college. Sleep with it for tonight, and when Cheese calms down tomorrow, you can sleep with her again. How about that?” Seeing that the desk lamp was fine, Shen Cheng said to Sugar, who was next to him, twitching her ears curiously at the lamp.
Hearing this, Sugar nodded and said, “Master’s scent is really nice indeed.”
“…” Shen Cheng fell silent.
He suddenly remembered that he had always been popular among small animals growing up. Was it because of this ‘scent’?
Even when he used to play in the woods near his home, he once played with a wolf. Back then, Shen Cheng thought it was just a big dog.
You couldn’t blame him for not knowing; after all, small animals wouldn’t say to Shen Cheng directly, “You smell good.”
Shaking his head, Shen Cheng stopped thinking about these matters and stood up to ruffle Sugar’s hair. Hmm, it felt more comfortable than he expected.
“We have to get up early tomorrow, so sleep early. Good night, Sugar.”
“Hmm, good night, Master.”
After the soft click of the door closing, the only things left in the room were Sugar and the desk lamp emitting a gentle glow.
Sugar sat on the bed, her cat ears drooping, and for a long time, she stayed in one position, eventually curling herself up with her arms wrapped around her knees, burying her face between her legs and remaining silent…
