Xu Wang was dumbfounded.
He stood frozen in place, his voice suddenly stammering. “N-no… no way!”
“My mom already reincarnated, how could she still be in my house?”
“Mom? Are you here? If you are, hit me once.”
He circled around the room, ruffling his curly hair, his eyes darting around like a big dog searching for its owner.
But after searching for a long time and finding nothing, he deflated like a balloon, his head drooping in disappointment.
“Host, I told you my mom couldn’t be here. You got it wrong.”
Huo Ning’s fingers moved swiftly, and a golden talisman suddenly materialized in Xu Wang’s room before slowly drifting to a corner of the wall.
“Holy sh*t!”
Xu Wang was stunned, staring dumbfounded at the talisman that had crossed through the screen, rubbing his eyes in disbelief.
But what came next was even more shocking for him.
As the talisman landed, he gradually saw a familiar white figure.
That warm, affectionate face made Xu Wang’s eyes redden with emotion, his hands trembling with excitement. “Mom!”
“Mom, I finally see you! I missed you so much, Mom!”
Snot and tears streaming down his face, he sprinted toward his mother’s spirit—only to pass straight through her body.
Xu Wang stared blankly at his hands, his expression dazed and confused, as if he didn’t know what to think.
His mother’s spirit also looked bewildered, standing motionless in the corner.
Then, after about ten seconds—
A blood-curdling scream erupted.
A broom chased after Xu Wang, relentlessly whacking him.
Xu Wang fled in panic, covering his head.
“Mom! Mom! Mom! Oww, why are you hitting me?!”
“Mom! It’s been half a year since we last saw each other, don’t you miss me?!”
“Mom, stop hitting me, you’ll really kill me at this rate!”
“‘Yin Peach Blossom Luck,’ huh? Getting eyed by a female ghost, huh? What the hell is going on in that head of yours, you brat?!”
For the viewers in the livestream, this scene was nothing short of earth-shattering.
[??? Holy sh*t, I must’ve woken up wrong—I think I just saw a real ghost. Nope, I need to go back to sleep!]
[It’s special effects, right? This has to be special effects!]
[To the person above: this is a livestream. How could they pull off effects like this in a livestream?]
[I could buy the golden talisman crossing through the screen as an effect, but the auntie has no shadow… is that also an effect???]
[Help, I’m so scared, AHHHHH! I’m calling the police!]
[To the person above: what are you gonna tell them? That you saw a ghost beating someone up and it scared you to tears?]
Huo Ning gave a light cough. “Auntie, stop hitting him. At this rate, with how thick-skinned he is, you won’t be able to beat him to death.”
Xu Wang: “……………”
Host sis, how dare you say that!
The broom stopped mid-air, and Xu’s mother snorted, raising her hand as if to pinch Xu Wang’s ear.
But halfway through, she remembered she was now a ghost and silently lowered her hand.
“You little brat,” she scolded affectionately.
Xu Wang’s eyes grew slightly damp as he lowered his head. “Mom, why didn’t you move on to reincarnation?”
Xu’s mother huffed. “You heartless little rascal, the only reason I didn’t reincarnate was because I couldn’t stop worrying about you!”
“Look at you—grown up but still can’t clean your room, eating takeout every day. Do you even know if that junk is clean?!”
Xu Wang pouted in protest.
“Mom, takeout is delicious. My cooking sucks, so some money is just meant for others to earn.”
His mother was so furious she nearly summoned the broom again.
“You little punk, are you trying to piss me off to death?!”
Xu Wang shrank back, staring fearfully at the broom as he gulped.
“Mom, you’re already dead. Technically, I can’t piss you off again.”
Unsurprisingly, Xu Wang got another beating from his dear mother.
For a while, the livestream chat was filled with laughter.
[This poor guy is suffering, but I can’t stop laughing.]
[You can tell this dude has a thick skin and a death wish.]
[Kinda teared up out of nowhere. Suddenly ghosts don’t seem so scary anymore—the thing I fear might be someone else’s dearly missed loved one.]
[Not sure if this guy missed his mom, but he definitely missed her beatings. That much is clear.]
Huo Ning watched Xu Wang’s suffering with amusement.
Once she’d had her fill of the spectacle, she finally raised a hand to intervene. “Alright, that’s enough. He’s already not the brightest—if you keep hitting him, he’ll get even dumber.”
Only then did Xu’s mother let go of the broom.
She sighed, her gaze softening as she looked at her son.
“I just couldn’t stop worrying about you. You’ve always been like this—stubborn and reckless, only listening after a good beating.”
Xu Wang lowered his head and suddenly muttered, “Mom… I actually knew it was you who cleaned my room and threw out my takeout.”
His mother froze.
She glanced at Huo Ning on the screen, only to find the host resting her chin on her hand, watching their mother-son drama with keen interest—
As if she’d already known what Xu Wang was hiding.
“Heh, Mom, I said that on purpose. I just wanted to see if you’d get mad enough to hit me with the broom again.”
“…And I wanted to see you.”
Xu Wang grinned cheekily, but the corners of his eyes slowly reddened.
His mother sighed. “Well, now that you’ve seen me, promise me you’ll study hard, take care of yourself, and stop eating all that junk, okay?”
Xu Wang nodded obediently.
“I got it, Mom. You can go reincarnate now. I’ll take good care of myself—I’m actually a pretty good cook now.”
But his mother still couldn’t rest easy.
She went on nagging a bit more.
“And another thing—you can’t just stay outside forever. All those properties at home are under your name alone. If you move out, aren’t you just letting outsiders take advantage?”
She and Xu Wang’s father had met through an arranged marriage, with no real emotional foundation.
Frankly, they’d just been going through the motions all these years, never truly trusting each other.
So after having a child, all the properties they bought were registered under Xu Wang’s name.
Before her death, Xu’s mother had also handed over all her savings to him.
At the end of the day, she had no lingering attachments to the mortal world, nor did she care if Xu Wang’s father found another woman.
She just couldn’t stop worrying that Xu Wang might get shortchanged.
Xu Wang grinned cheekily. “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll go back tomorrow. The old man has no idea how much money you left me. Once I’m home, I’ll cry poor to him every day—I’ll eat him out of house and home and annoy him to death.”
As for the property deeds at home, he’d hidden them *deep*.
“Just go reincarnate in peace. Your son’s as sharp as a fox.”
His mother still hesitated, her eyes full of reluctance.
She wanted to keep looking at her son a little longer.
Huo Ning, however, chuckled. “Go on and reincarnate. Lingering in the mortal world too long isn’t good for him either.”
“Besides, your mother-son bond isn’t over yet. You’ve got three more lifetimes together.”
Xu’s mother: “…………”
Absolutely not necessary!
She left—so fast it was like her feet were greased—vanishing from the room in an instant.
Huo Ning smiled, then added after a thought, “DM me your address later. I’ll mail you two talismans. Burn the red one for your mom—the underworld officers won’t hold her accountable for staying too long in the mortal world. The other one, you keep on you.”
“In two days, you’ll face a major calamity. It’ll block one disaster for you.”
[Holy sh*t, fam, this is huge—Old Huo’s actually being nice!]
[Her suddenly being this kind is kinda unsettling.]
[I bet a pack of spicy strips those two talismans cost 100k.]
Sure enough, the viewers knew Huo Ning well.
Before Xu Wang could even thank her, he noticed Huo Ning grinning in a way that sent chills down his spine, her eyes gleaming with anticipation as she stared at him.
“Two ‘Phoenix Coronet and Embroidered Robe’ gifts for these two talismans—not too much to ask, right?”
Sniffle… In her past life, she wouldn’t have sold these two talismans for less than 100k!
Of course, if the buyer were a tycoon, that would be a different price altogether.
Though Xu Wang was a little speechless at the master’s blatant money-loving nature, he still promptly sent two “Phoenix Coronet and Embroidered Robe” gifts.
But even after the donation, Huo Ning’s expectant gaze remained fixed on him.
Xu Wang: “?”
Huo Ning patted her stomach. “Well… how about ten boxes of sour and spicy instant noodles?”
Xu Wang immediately shot her an “I got you” look and swiftly donated the equivalent cost of ten boxes of noodles.
“I’ll DM you my address now. Bye, host sis!”
[Damn, he left faster than I sprint to the cafeteria at lunchtime.]
[He was probably afraid that if he stayed a few seconds longer, she’d ask for ten more boxes of luosifen (spicy snail noodles), huojimian (Korean fire noodles), guoba shupian (crispy rice-potato chips), and onion rings.]
—[Dawn Skies, Dusk Clouds] sent ‘Phoenix Coronet and Embroidered Robe’ x1.
[Dawn Skies, Dusk Clouds: Streamer sis, donation sent! Connect with me!]
Huo Ning immediately sent a video call invitation.
The next second, a person wearing a green fish head mask, their entire body wrapped up tightly, appeared on screen.
