I was laughing hysterically imagining the numbers that would be stamped on that bankbook, but this time my tail stuck out.
Then Chase swished his round tail and shouted.
“Don’t go around showing off like this! Why would you advertise that you’re getting a reward? What if you get scammed while watching the news? Huh?”
“I don’t show it on the outside. What do you think of me?”
“Look at me as a puppy, or what. Anyway, put it all in the account and just use the interest.”
“That’s right. I’ll invest and save all the remaining money…”
“What kind of investment are you making? You said 5 seconds ago that you wouldn’t do anything stupid!”
“No way! You decided to invest in the movie announced at the party yesterday, right?”
“What? When did I decide?”
“I told you, that’s going to be a hit!”
“understood…”
Chase put his hand on his forehead as he shouted confidently. Suddenly, his face turned pale and he looked very tired. After thinking for a while, he nodded as if he had no choice.
“Yeah. I thought the movie was good. The director is trustworthy too. You have plenty of spare cash, and since it’s your money, you can invest if you want… But I’m asking just in case.”
And then he continued speaking seriously, his expression unable to be more serious than this.
“Didn’t someone gently entice you to invest there and say you’d hit the jackpot? Or did you get a call from a strange number, from someone whose pronunciation sounded like a foreigner?”
“…”
What are you talking about? Do you think I’ve been voice phished?
The next day, on the way to my regular checkup, I sat in the car, lost in thought.
What would I do with the money I had left over after investing in a movie and paying for Chase’s mother’s hospital bills? Chase had insisted that I put it in a savings account, but I thought I could invest it elsewhere. Knowing the important things that were going to happen, I wondered if I could come up with some good ideas if I thought about it.
As I was thinking back on the original story, I was so serious that I didn’t even realize that the car had stopped. Chase, who was driving the car he brought from Kaisa, got out, opened the passenger door, and asked with a puzzled look.
“What are you doing? Aren’t you going down?”
“Oh, I was just thinking about it for a moment.”
“Why are you suddenly thinking about something you’ve never thought about before?”
“I do have thoughts, though…”
I was about to grab Chase’s outstretched hand while grumbling, but then I suddenly stopped looking. His large hands had long and thin fingers, and his round nails were a light salmon color. What a rascal, even his nails are pretty. If only his personality matched his looks by half…
Feeling annoyed for no reason, I pushed the hand away and shook my head.
“I hope the baby looks like Chase anyway.”
“What? Why is it ‘Appearance anyway’?”
“It would be a problem if even our personalities resemble each other.”
“What’s wrong with my personality!”
“You know everything, but you still do it……”
The bickering that had started while they were entering the clinic continued into the examination room. and they continued to argue even while Dr. Jeffrey was diligently performing the ultrasound examination.
I didn’t know why he wouldn’t admit that he had a bad personality. Do you really think you have a good personality? Are you serious? And he seemed to know that I had a pretty face, so I got even angrier.
“It’s good to be on good terms, but you should also pay some attention to the baby, right? You two, please look over here for a moment.”
At that moment, Mr. Jeffrey called us over, nodding toward the monitor. Since I had always only seen black dots on the black screen, I wasn’t expecting much. This time, I thought I would just pretend to watch.
“The baby has grown so much.”
“is it so…?”
Still staring into space, he replied gloomily. After all, it was just a pea-sized bean that grew to the size of a kidney bean. People say that when a baby is born, fatherly love starts to flow out from the time the baby is as small as a bean, but I still couldn’t believe it and I didn’t feel attached, so I was a little upset.
“You’re growing so fast. You’ve already got ears, and you can see a little bit of a tail here.”
“Really?”
But this time, it was a bit surprising. So now it wasn’t just a bean, but a bean with ears? Curious, I craned my head and stared at the black screen.
“…”
Where are the ears? As expected, I couldn’t find them this time either. There was no trace, let alone a tail. Am I lacking fatherly love? Did I say I would have a baby without thinking too much?
…I shook my head in despair as all sorts of thoughts came to mind.
“There’s no such thing…”
“You look here. Its ears are already perking up.”
Chase cut me off and pointed to the monitor. There was a dark shadow flickering where his index finger was pointing.
“Are you kidding me?”
“There’s something small that blinks. Here, this.”
Is that so…? No matter how hard I stare at the screen, I can’t see what’s what. I just tilt my head and roll my eyes, but Chase suddenly turns to look at Mr. Jeffrey as if he’s discovered something.
“Brother. Why is the baby a leopard?”
“…”
The doctor and I were speechless at the sudden protest. It’s a leopard, so we call it a leopard. If you ask why it’s a leopard…
The doctor must have had similar thoughts. He looked at Chase with a bewildered look and asked.
“Then why are you a leopard?”
That’s what I’m saying. Is the baby acting like that because he doesn’t like it? No matter what, you caused the accident and you are blaming the doctor for everything. Or did I cause the accident?
