“Nothing happened, so why did you faint?”
“You said you didn’t faint. You just slept?”
“anyway!”
“Oh, please stop yelling.”
I slapped Chase on the back of his hand and scolded him to stop whining, but I also had mixed feelings. The conversation the vice president had with his secretary seemed to be lingering in my ears. Since it was something related to his mother, Chase should know, but I was at a loss as to where to start and how to tell him about it.
“Well, I heard something, but don’t be too surprised and listen…”
So I just told you everything from beginning to end.
“…”
Chase remained silent for a while, as if he was speechless. I felt guilty for no reason. I had thought that my mother was being treated after being selected as a sponsor for a government-sponsored program, but it turned out that he was not being treated at all, but rather that he was being kept alive by turning a blind eye to the fact that his life was not in danger.
“…So I thought about it, since Kaisha Medical Center was entrusted with the sponsorship program and is abusing its power as it pleases, I should report this to the government department in charge…”
“There’s no evidence, and the medical center won’t take it lightly. There’s no way the medical staff will testify.”
“That’s right…”
I lowered my eyes and muttered sullenly. I had no face to face with Chase.
It was ultimately my fault that things turned out this way. If only I hadn’t been the heir to the Kaiser family. Or if I hadn’t let the vice president know that I was interested in Chase, there would have been no reason for the vice president to single out Chase’s mother and neglect him without proper treatment.
But Chase didn’t blame me. His face darkened, but he just turned his head and stared out the window silently. I think he would have felt better if he had pushed me like before.
“I guess I’ll have to transfer to another hospital.”
“That’s… difficult right now.”
The voice that answered was low. Chase had no other choice. He was currently receiving medical expenses through a sponsorship program, but if he were admitted to another hospital, he would no longer be able to receive sponsorship.
I opened my mouth cautiously, stroking the back of Chase’s hand.
“But I’ll move anyway. I’ll pay for the hospitalization. I’m rich now, right?”
The huge compensation money he received from the Garden City redevelopment was all piled up in his bank account. Although he invested in a movie starring Abel, it was a small amount compared to the compensation money, so he could have helped out with hospital bills.
The only problem was that Chase wouldn’t accept it willingly.
As expected, Chase shook his head with a bitter expression and pulled his hand away from me.
“How could I take that much from you?”
“It’s because of me. So I’ll take responsibility.”
“Why is it because of you?”
“The vice president is trying to kick me out……”
“It’s not your fault you didn’t have good parents.”
“…”
Unexpectedly, I felt a lump in my throat when I heard those words. Not only in this life, but also in my past lives, things passed before my eyes.
Chase quietly added, looking at me for a moment without saying anything, wondering what was on his mind.
“Do you think the vice president would care about other patients besides my mother? No.
He was someone whose purpose was to receive government subsidies.”
“that…”
“Listen to me, Leo. It’s not your fault. So you don’t have to do this. You have no reason to feel guilty.”
Chase’s voice was soft as he spoke, taking a deep breath. His tone, though not affectionate, was comforting. I tried to comfort him…
“Anyway, let’s not even think about transferring hospitals. We know how much more it will cost in the future.”
There is still no cure for the Pruss disease that Chase’s mother suffers from. He may have to stay in the hospital for the rest of his life, so he seemed to think that if he started paying for the treatment, it would be like pouring water into a bottomless pit.
‘But in the original, a cure was found in the end…….. Ah!’
Suddenly, I remembered the conversation between the vice president and his secretary. It was important information that I had forgotten because I was surprised that the vice president had acted out.
“I think we can find a cure. Taylor’s research!”
When I explained the whole story, Chase frowned. His mind seemed quite complicated. After thinking it over for a while, he washed his face repeatedly and barely opened his lips.
“It’s true that Taylor is capable. I heard that several medical doctors participated as advisors on the research team. However, that doesn’t guarantee that he can really cure Pruss. Taylor also said that there are still many areas where he is lacking.”
“Did you know that Taylor’s team was researching Pruss disease?”
“That research was started because of me in the first place.”
“ah…”
“To achieve results, a huge investment is needed. That’s why we held a presentation last time, but we couldn’t find investors because it was such a vague field. However, since Kaisha Medical Center is receiving government support and is researching Prus, I think Taylor also came looking forward to that.”
The vice president cut off the investment proposal without even hearing the research results.
But it wasn’t all bad. In the first place, there was nothing good that the vice president had done to invest in this. He had no intention of actively pursuing Chase’s mother’s treatment, so it was obvious that monopolizing the technology would only complicate things.
“Then why don’t we invest? It’s a good thing!”
But Chase still seemed troubled, muttering with a dark expression.
“…and then if it fails.”
“Failure?”
I blinked and asked again. There was no way I could have failed.
