Loaded with a considerable amount of supplies, the people of the Amuria Kingdom are heading to Marunudark.
Just to be safe, I handed Raphishal’s latest communication device to her so that she could contact Ranelle immediately in case something happened. With this, even if the enemy disrupts communications again, she should be able to call for help right away.
“Excuse me, Yuta.”
While we were having a light meal in the ship’s cafeteria on our way, Feri’s pseudo-body spoke up. It was rare for her to initiate a conversation during private hours, so I braced myself, thinking it might be something important.
“What’s wrong? Is there a problem with Arleo II?”
“No, I want to inform you about something regarding Marunudark. It’s important, so could you please call Jean and Raphishal and have them listen as well?”
This was the first time Feri had asked me so formally. I quickly understood that it was something significant, so I agreed immediately.
“So, what is it?”
Jean, curious about Feri’s conversation, hurried to sit down and urged her to continue. Raphishal, anticipating the topic, interjected before Feri could speak.
“Could it be about that matter, the mutated giant beasts…?”
“No, it’s not that. I leave that matter entirely in your hands, Raphishal. What I’m about to discuss is a promise with an old friend.”
“I see, it’s about them.”
Without responding to Raphishal’s reaction, which seemed to sense something, Feri began to speak to me and Jean.
“In the past, the world united against the giant beasts. All nations cooperated to fight the threats to humanity. To combat the enormous giant beasts, humanity created magic devices and trained exceptional riders.”
“I’ve heard that story. But it ended with humanity’s victory, right?”
“No, it wasn’t a victory. The fight is still ongoing.”
“Ah, right, it was just sealed away.”
“Let me continue. Throughout the long struggle against the giant beasts, humanity produced twelve powerful riders who became our strongest allies. They saved us from peril many times with their strength, becoming known as heroes. However, in terms of personal lives, theirs were certainly not happy. Their bodies were strengthened to the limit to enhance their Ludia value, not even allowing them to age, forcing them to fight for eternity.”
Knowing it was an important discussion, I listened to Feri’s words carefully. Jean seemed interested as well, listening with a serious expression. Feri continued, seemingly satisfied with our attitudes.
“Thanks to the sealing of the giant beasts, humanity enjoyed a long moment of peace. However, humans are foolish creatures. Even after obtaining the marvelous treasure of peace, they were not satisfied and sought another treasure. The leaders at that time, gathered to fight the giant beasts, began to fight among themselves for wealth and power. This struggle continued for over a century. The twelve heroes and their fellow warriors became embroiled in the power struggle, dividing into two factions and continuing to fight. Many heroes were lost in that conflict.”
The fight among the heroes who saved humanity from the giant beasts… I can imagine how fierce that battle must have been, yet I feel a sense of emptiness even more than that.
