Leading an immense army of half a million soldiers, we advance upon the Three-Nation Alliance. The army is so vast that it covers the borders entirely. Our objective is simple: destroy everything in enemy territory. There is no detailed strategy or tactics; just a relentless march of destruction aimed at annihilating the enemy.
Though I’m leading the army as the supreme commander, none of my intentions are reflected here—not even a bit. The army moves according to the strategic program set by Rafishal and the emperor. I am nothing more than a figurehead.
However, this one-sided advance is halted by a formidable defensive barrier, the last line of resistance from the enemy.
“Termihal, Balmihal, and Emihal are putting up a good fight.”
Observing the battlefield, my aide Skullfy remarks on the unexpected resilience of the Three-Nation Alliance.
“For a force just shy of 100,000, they’re holding up well. But it’s only a matter of time before they fall. A section of the forces at that fortress is on the verge of breaking; we’ll be able to push through soon.”
Kurus also acknowledges the impressive resistance of the outnumbered enemy but seems certain of our inevitable victory.
Seizing the moment when the fortress artillery barrage weakens, the elite annihilation battalion of the Elysian Empire, composed entirely of Highlander-class units, charges at the enemy’s defense units positioned at the fortress. The assault seems reckless, and I worry about potential heavy casualties, but Skullfy gives the order without hesitation.
“We have allies in abundance! Even if we perish, they will avenge us! Die for your country and honor!”
As harsh as his words are, the soldiers, almost as if possessed, follow the command without question. The thousand Magicrafts of the annihilation battalion surge forward like a single bullet, piercing into the enemy ranks.
Surrounded on all sides, even these elite troops cannot escape unscathed. Soldiers are skewered by spears, stabbed from behind by swords, and fall one by one. The bullet-like formation shrinks as it pushes through the enemy’s defensive wall.
Yet, despite its diminishing numbers, the battalion reaches the enemy’s rear line. They successfully launch a surprise attack on the headquarters at the back, throwing the enemy’s command structure into chaos.
“Now’s our chance! Send the right-wing forces around to the rear of the fortress!”
This maneuver could decide the battle. The enemy’s fortress appears built for forward defense and seems vulnerable from the rear. If our right-wing forces can circle around, the enemy’s smaller numbers won’t be able to withstand our attack.
But things don’t go as planned. At this moment, the enemy’s reinforcements arrive—a massive force of 200,000 soldiers, enough to instantly shift the balance of power that had been overwhelmingly in favor of the Elysian Empire.
“So, reinforcements have arrived.”
“More than expected.”
“Heh, even so, we still outnumber them. This won’t be enough to lead to our defeat.”
“True, but this certainly makes things more complicated. Yui, should we head out? I’m eager for some action myself.”
Considering Kurus’s words, I hesitate momentarily. But sensing her eagerness to unleash her strength, I grant permission for her to join the fight.
