Kurus and Skullfy each boarded their respective Magicrafts and set off, each accompanied by their personal riders.
Kurus’s prized machine, named Dominion, was a Magicraft known for its exceptional mobility and the ability to fly. Kurus was accompanied by 30 elite Double Exlander-class subordinates, forming a force that alone was equivalent to several divisions.
Skullfy piloted a Magicraft called Arondight, backed by 50 Exlander-class subordinates. Together, they commanded formidable power capable of decisively influencing the battlefield.
With the two aides deployed, all command chains converged on me. While the strategic program had already set general actions, I still received several reports that required my discretion.
“The forces deployed on the right flank are struggling against enemy reinforcements. The commander has requested a temporary retreat. How should we proceed?”
“Kurus and Skullfy have already launched. Retreating now would only lead to greater losses. Hold the line and maintain the front in sync with their movements.”
“The remaining troops from the Annihilation Battalion are surrounded by the enemy on the south side of the enemy fortress. They face complete annihilation. What are your orders?”
“Send the 8th Division to rescue them, with support from the 9th and 10th Divisions.”
Kurus and Skullfy might abandon them, but I couldn’t make such a call.
As communications swamped me with battlefield updates, a report came through that Kurus and Skullfy had commenced their assault on the enemy reinforcements. Observing the field, I saw the situation shift dramatically. Their overwhelming power was clear, even from here, and the right flank, which had been struggling, regained stability.
“Kurus has destroyed 31 enemy Magicrafts, Skullfy 27. Including their subordinates’ tally, the total surpasses 150 destroyed machines.”
In just a few minutes, this level of destruction was incredible. More reports followed.
“The kill score is climbing… 172… 185…”
Their momentum was unstoppable. With us gaining ground on other battlefronts, I felt certain that victory was within reach. Yet, the situation began to shift in an unexpected direction, marked by a subtle change.
“Yui, isn’t something off? Look closely at the right flank where we’ve been pushing them back.”
Mary, stationed on the flagship as my aide, pointed out the friendly markers in blue and enemy markers in red.
Following her lead, I inspected the right flank display. At first glance, nothing seemed amiss, but I had the odd impression that the enemy’s numbers were dwindling.
“The enemy numbers are steadily decreasing, but isn’t that just because Kurus and Skullfy are pushing them back?”
“Look carefully; it’s not just the front lines. The enemy rear positions are also thinning out. It’s too unusual for them to be pushed back like this.”
“So… you’re saying the enemy is deliberately redeploying forces away from the right flank?”
“Exactly, but it doesn’t make sense. If the right flank were completely broken, the enemy would be at a significant disadvantage. Why would they choose to weaken their forces there?”
As she pointed it out, I began to see the strange logic behind the enemy’s actions. Perhaps it was sheer fear of Kurus and Skullfy, but…
