Chapter 4: From Now On, You All Change Your Surname to Jiang
The three remaining people frantically shook their heads. Liang Wenchang nearly knelt before Jiang Jiuyue.
This woman was too terrifying today—she actually called down lightning to strike both his mother and elder brother. They couldn’t fight her, not even a little. Their only chance of survival was to obey.
“N-no, we wouldn’t dare! We’ll definitely behave, absolutely!” he stammered.
Chen Cuihong and Ma Guichun quickly nodded in agreement with Liang Wenchang. Their sincere attitude pleased Jiang Jiuyue greatly.
“If you behave, there will naturally be benefits. When I hit you, I’ll go easier than I did on them,” she said with a smirk.
Jiang Jiuyue helped reset Chen Cuihong’s and Ma Guichun’s dislocated joints, wearing an expression that clearly said, “I just did you a huge favor—aren’t you going to thank me?”
To their own surprise, Chen Cuihong and Ma Guichun actually felt a little grateful. She really isn’t that bad—she even fixed our joints and didn’t let us get struck by lightning.
Jiang Jiuyue stood up and gave the two women a kick. “Get to work. What, were you waiting for me to do it?”
Ma Guichun nodded furiously. “Right away, right away!”
The two women scrambled to their feet, bowing and scraping as they escorted Jiang Jiuyue back to her room. Only once she was inside did they finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Liang Wenchang looked at the two motionless bodies on the ground—Du Jinhua and Liang Youchang—and asked, “What about Ma and Big Brother? Should we go get a doctor?”
Ma Guichun hissed in a low voice, “Are you stupid? You still dare go get a doctor? You’re not afraid of getting struck by lightning?”
Liang Wenchang shrank back, shivering. He really was too scared to go.
Chen Cuihong walked over to her man and checked his breathing. It seemed normal, which eased her mind a bit.
“Second, do us a favor and carry them inside. Maybe they’ll wake up after resting a bit.”
Ma Guichun quickly nudged Liang Wenchang. “Yeah, go on! You really want to call a doctor? Like we have money for that!”
Liang Wenchang responded with a grunt and first carried Liang Youchang into the main house. But when it came to Du Jinhua, he hesitated.
Du Jinhua’s room had been taken over by Jiang Jiuyue—she’d now have to sleep in the shabby room where Jiang Jiuyue used to live.
Ma Guichun pinched him hard and motioned for him to dump Du Jinhua in Jiang Jiuyue’s old room.
Liang Wenchang followed her instructions, and neither of them spared another glance at Du Jinhua. While Jiang Jiuyue was quiet, they quickly scurried back to their rooms.
Meanwhile, Jiang Jiuyue was lying on the bed chatting with her three daughters.
But as they talked, she became more and more dissatisfied with their names. They were just too ugly—she had to change them.
Liang Zhao’er blinked. “Change names? Mom, what should we be called then? I won’t be Zhao’er anymore?”
Jiang Jiuyue spat. “Zhao’er, my ass. Who the hell are we trying to attract with a name like that? From now on, you’re Zhen’er—Zhen as in pearl. Oh, and you’re all taking my surname. From now on, you three are all Jiangs.”
Liang Zhao’er—now Jiang Zhen’er—whispered her new name to herself, a bashful smile appearing on her face.
Jiang Zhen’er… What a beautiful name! Way better than her cousins Chun’er and Xiang’er.
She used to envy her cousins’ names, but now she didn’t anymore. Her new name was way better!
Liang Pan’er immediately chimed in, “Mom, me too! I want a new name! I want to be a Jiang too!”
Jiang Jiuyue thought for a moment. “You’ll be Bao’er. Jiang Bao’er. How’s that sound?”
Jiang Bao’er nodded excitedly. “Great! From now on, I’m Jiang Bao’er! No more Pan’er!”
The youngest, Liang Gai’er, saw her sisters getting new names and quickly demanded a pretty name too.
Jiang Jiuyue flicked her forehead. “You’ll be Jiang Yu’er. Like jade—pretty, right?”
Jiang Yu’er was delighted. What a beautiful name! Her mother really knew how to name people!
The three sisters were thrilled, excitedly calling each other by their new names. The more they said them, the more they liked how good they sounded.
Seeing how happy her daughters were, Jiang Jiuyue felt a rare sense of contentment welling up inside her.
It was a foreign feeling. Jiang Jiuyue figured it must be the influence of the body’s original owner. Otherwise, with her own personality, she wouldn’t have accepted the three little girls so quickly—let alone truly treat them as the most important people in her life.
Still, it wasn’t a bad feeling at all. These three girls were all adorable and completely devoted to her. She didn’t have to worry about being betrayed by them.
A faint smile curved Jiang Jiuyue’s lips. She hadn’t expected that crossing into this world would come with three sweet daughters—it was a pleasant surprise.
While the mother and daughters enjoyed a warm, tender moment in the room, the rest of the Jiang household was far from at ease.
The other children of the Liang family came back from playing outside, ready to make a ruckus, but were immediately dragged into their rooms by their mothers and had their mouths covered.
In separate rooms, Chen Cuihong and Ma Guichun mirrored each other’s actions—covering their children’s mouths and shaking their heads wildly.
They couldn’t risk disturbing that demoness. If they provoked her, even the children could be in danger!
The kids were baffled. What on earth had happened? Why couldn’t they talk?
The children of the eldest branch were even more confused. Their father had supposedly gone out to work in the fields—so why was he lying unconscious on the bed?
And when dinnertime arrived, something even more bizarre happened.
The third aunt, who always had to cook for the entire family, was nowhere to be found. Instead, their own mothers were clumsily fumbling about in the kitchen, trying to make dinner.
When the food was ready, Chen Cuihong cautiously went to Jiang Jiuyue’s room and gently knocked on the door.
“Third daughter-in-law, dinner is ready. You can come eat now.”
Her eldest son, Liang Chengyong, was stunned. What was his mother doing?
She was inviting that third aunt—who used to be ordered around like a servant by everyone—to come eat?
Jiang Jiuyue opened the door and gave Chen Cuihong a nod of approval. “Not bad. You get to eat tonight.”
Chen Cuihong instinctively began to thank her, leaving Liang Chengyong completely dumbfounded.
Jiang Jiuyue walked into the main room with her three daughters. The dishes were already set on the table, but no one dared to touch them.
The family’s children didn’t know what had happened. All they saw was their mothers groveling as that third aunt led her three daughters—usually not even allowed to approach the table—straight to the matriarch’s usual seat at the head.
“Mom, are you serious? Why are they allowed to sit at the table?”
Liang Chuner from the eldest branch was the first to protest. She immediately tried to drag Jiang Zhener away from the table.
Chen Cuihong panicked and rushed up to grab Liang Chuner’s arm, yanking her back forcefully.
“Third daughter-in-law, Chuner… she’s just a kid. Please don’t take it to heart…”
She fell to her knees in front of Jiang Jiuyue, a pleading expression on her face.
Jiang Jiuyue lifted her gaze and glanced coldly at Liang Chuner. She remembered clearly how this girl used to bully Zhener and her sisters. She had no intention of letting her off the hook.
“Oh, so she’s just a kid now? But when she was tormenting my daughters, she was as vicious as they come. Now suddenly she’s ‘just a child’ who doesn’t understand?
If that’s her ‘not understanding,’ then I’d say she’s rotten to the core. Since she’s your daughter, Sister-in-law, how about I do you the favor of fixing this bad seed myself?”
