The Immortal Lord is Pregnant with the Demon Lord’s Offspring
ILPDLO Chapter 17

Wait… is he angry?

Chu Hanjin had never seen him act so cold before. In fact, almost no one had ever been mad at Chu Hanjin, so he had never really apologized to anyone, nor had he ever reflected on his own actions. He sat there holding a wine cup, feeling lost and confused.

The two of them had come down the mountain together, but now the other person had left. Chu Hanjin didn’t want to move around without permission, in case he came back and couldn’t find him. So, he stayed where he was, waiting.

As he waited, he thought about the cheesy things Yue Lin had said earlier.

It didn’t make sense that such deep emotions were just an act.

But unfortunately, while Yue Lin clearly had deep feelings for him, Chu Hanjin couldn’t remember anything.

From a certain perspective, could this be a bit cruel to Yue Lin?

Just as that thought crossed his mind, Chu Hanjin dismissed it.

Not knowing anything and yet being pregnant — wasn’t that more cruel to himself?

Since he couldn’t do anything else, Chu Hanjin stayed at the tavern waiting for Yue Lin to return. But as he watched the sun set, there was still no sign of him. Chu Hanjin frowned slightly — it seemed Yue Lin had quite the temper.

Did he really have to go look for him and apologize?

Chu Hanjin had never apologized before, but his unlucky senior brother often had to apologize.

…Might as well go out and look for him.

Having made up his mind, Chu Hanjin stepped out of the tavern.

The streetlights were lit on both sides of the street, and though night had fallen, the stalls weren’t closing. The lively night market was just getting started. Chu Hanjin walked along the street until he reached a crossroads, passing by the stall where they had bought rouge earlier. The same woman called out to him, “Immortal master?”

Chu Hanjin stopped and turned to look.

The woman was holding a powder box. “This is from that immortal master from this morning. He told me to give it to you. He said you don’t need to look for him and should just wait for him at the Ru Yi Inn.”

“……”

Chu Hanjin took the powder box.

Was Yue Lin worried he’d be concerned, so he left this message on purpose?

Wait for him? What was Yue Lin up to?

Chu Hanjin turned and walked toward the Ru Yi Inn, which was located deeper into the street. When he inquired, it turned out Yue Lin had already booked a room. However, the innkeeper, who was cracking sunflower seeds, confirmed with certainty, “But there’s only one room.”

“…”

Chu Hanjin: “I’ll book another room.”

Innkeeper: “Sorry, we’re fully booked.”

The innkeeper slammed all the room plaques down with a flourish.

Chu Hanjin stood there for a moment, then reluctantly headed to the room Yue Lin had reserved. He opened the door, but there was no one inside — Yue Lin hadn’t come back yet.

Chu Hanjin set down his sword and began to freshen up. He asked the innkeeper to bring a basin of water. Just as he was wringing out a cloth to wipe his face, he heard the door creak open behind him.

He turned to see Yue Lin, dressed in black, standing there with a smile, “Lord Yue Zhao.”

Chu Hanjin didn’t waver, “Where did you go?”

“Nowhere special. I was in a bad mood, so I went for a walk and ended up going far.” Yue Lin poured himself a cup of tea and asked, “Did you wait long?”

Chu Hanjin: “Not long.”

Yue Lin poured the tea with his left hand, drank a cup, and then asked, “Have you eaten dinner?”

Chu Hanjin: “No.”

“Alright, I’ll have the innkeeper bring something up.”

The innkeeper came in with a towel draped over his arm, bowing and scraping, “What would the two of you like to eat?”

Yue Lin lightly tapped his chin with his finger and asked, “What’s the best thing to eat here?”

“We’ve got beggar’s chicken, wine-steamed clams, boiled beef, and freshly caught pheasant with spring bamboo shoots.”

Yue Lin looked at Chu Hanjin with a smile, “I’ve never had wine-steamed clams before. Want to try it?”

“They’re really tasty! The clams just came into season this spring. My wife went and got the first batch herself, they’re tender and fresh!” The innkeeper started praising them.

“Do you want to try?” Yue Lin turned back to Chu Hanjin.

After a moment’s pause, Chu Hanjin slowly nodded, “Alright.”

He added, “And bring a pot of Xiao San Bai.”

Yue Lin didn’t comment and simply nodded, “Sure.”

“Right away!”

The innkeeper left to prepare the meal.

Chu Hanjin scoffed, his lips curving slightly upward.

Yue Lin: “What’s so funny?”

Chu Hanjin finished wiping his hands and walked over to pick up his sword.

Yue Lin didn’t react, still sitting at the table sipping tea. One hand rested on his lap, the other holding a pastry. He asked, “What did you do this afternoon? You didn’t just sit and wait for me, did you?” His narrow eyes crinkled slightly as he said in a gentle tone, “You’ve worked hard.”

The tone was intimate.

It was very much like how Yue Lin usually spoke.

But Chu Hanjin had already figured it out and said, “You can drop the act.”

Yue Lin froze, his eyes flickering with a hint of surprise. He licked his lips in amusement, and although he was already handsome, this gesture gave him a rather seductive air. He said, “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

Chu Hanjin unsheathed his weapon, “I’m saying, you’re not Yue Lin.”

The atmosphere in the room instantly turned ice-cold.

The “Yue Lin” looked exasperated, “I just got back, and I’m really hungry. I’m not in the mood for games.”

But Chu Hanjin didn’t lower his sword.

The standoff continued.

The “Yue Lin” stuffed the rest of the pastry into his mouth and licked his fingers before finally admitting, “What gave it away? I thought I did a pretty good job.”

What gave it away? Wine-steamed clams and Xiao San Bai wine.

Yue Lin would never let him drink.

Because he was pregnant, and that was their secret.

Chu Hanjin didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, “Why are you pretending to be him? What’s your purpose?”

“Purpose? No real purpose,” the man looked Chu Hanjin up and down, “I just didn’t expect him to be involved with you.”

That statement was quite revealing.

It suggested that the man knew Yue Lin very well and had heard of Chu Hanjin, but there was clear disdain for one of them. It was unclear whether he hated Yue Lin or Chu Hanjin more.

But since he knew Yue Lin, it would be best to catch him and interrogate him directly.

Chu Hanjin said, “Apologies,” as a chain blade unfurled from his wide sleeve, forming a circular shape. The sharp tip opened like a knife, spinning toward the man.

The man’s fingers twitched, and something flew out from his sleeve. Chu Hanjin dodged, hearing a cold laugh as the man took two steps back, flipped to the window, and leaped out.

…He ran?

Chu Hanjin rushed to the window, ready to pursue, but there was another noise at the door.

He turned around.

Another Yue Lin.

Dressed in black, this one pushed the door open, ducking under the eaves as he stepped inside. He was pulling off his gloves, revealing his bony fingers, and said with his head down, “I went after someone this afternoon—”

He looked up and saw the bright, gleaming tip of a sword pointed at his throat.

Yue Lin looked surprised, “What’s going on?”

Chu Hanjin studied his face, still not lowering his sword, “Is this one real?”

Yue Lin raised his eyebrows slightly, “Someone pretending to be me came by?”

Chu Hanjin: “Yes, just left.”

“Where did they leave from?” Yue Lin asked, though he already knew the answer. The room had no other exit except the door and the window, and he hadn’t seen anyone when he entered.

He moved toward the window, but Chu Hanjin’s sword was still at his throat.

Chu Hanjin’s tone was cold, “Answer me.”

“I’m the real one.”

“How can you prove it?”

Yue Lin’s eyes darkened as he stared at Chu Hanjin, “Do I need to prove it? There are plenty of ways.”

His tone took on a slight teasing edge, the meaning of his words obvious.

In an instant, he moved to Chu Hanjin’s side, gently wrapping his hands around Chu Hanjin’s waist and slowly caressing upwards. His voice turned low and sultry as he whispered, “Using swords and knives… it’s not good for the baby, you know.”

“…”

Alright, that confirmed it.

Chu Hanjin pushed him away, retreating even farther than when he had faced the fake earlier, “It’s fine now.”

Yue Lin gave him a teasing smile, resting a hand on the windowsill as he glanced out, “What did that person come here to do?”

After Chu Hanjin recounted what had happened, Yue Lin sighed.

Chu Hanjin took a sip of tea, “You really do have a lot of enemies.”

Yue Lin drawled, “Yeah, it’s quite troubling.”

“…”

Chu Hanjin brushed off his sleeves and sat down, “So, where did you go this afternoon?”

Yue Lin poured himself another cup of tea, “That person from this morning was acting suspiciously. After I left you, I followed him.” He met Chu Hanjin’s slightly cold gaze and added, “Yes, I used the excuse of being angry to leave, but I didn’t mean to make you worry.”

Chu Hanjin: “I wasn’t worried.”

Yue Lin sighed again, “Really, not even a little?”

“…”

Chu Hanjin felt like his patience was being worn thin around Yue Lin.

Yue Lin continued, “I didn’t alert him. I followed him quietly and saw him head into a forest where there were quite a few people camping out. It looked like a temporary settlement.”

The Spring Banquet was a grand event in the cultivation world, drawing people from all over. Different groups had different habits; some stayed at inns, while others camped together to save money or for company.

This group must have also come for the Spring Banquet.

Yue Lin glanced at him, “Their camp was well hidden.”

Chu Hanjin hummed, “Were they trying to keep a low profile?”

“Yes, I followed him. When he reached the camp, he checked his surroundings several times before heading inside.”

The Spring Banquet was all about showing off, yet some people wanted to hide.

Chu Hanjin gestured for him to continue.

Yue Lin said, “I watched for a while. Someone brought out a weapon to chop firewood, and it was a head-cleaving knife.”

Chu Hanjin met Yue Lin’s gaze.

The difference between immortals and demons lay in their methods. Immortals sought the Dao and followed righteous paths, while the demonic path used dark arts.

If someone was walking around town blatantly displaying a skull necklace, a ghost pet, or an evil spirit, they were most likely a demon cultivator. In immortal territories, such people were to be eradicated, but in demonic lands, this was allowed.

Chu Hanjin said slowly, “What are demon cultivators doing here?”

The Spring Banquet was a grand event for the immortal sects. Any demon cultivators causing trouble at this time were asking for death. Usually, both sides would leave each other alone.

Otherwise, it would be a death wish.

Thunder rumbled faintly outside.

Yue Lin looked out the window, his eyes cold and damp as he murmured meaningfully, “A storm is coming.”

Chu Hanjin remembered something important, “Has it reached Xu hour1 yet? We’re supposed to meet the person who’s pulling the strings behind Wu Lan at the stone bridge.”

Yue Lin: “Not yet.”

Chu Hanjin walked to the window to observe the stone bridge.

Spring rain was starting to fall. The crowds were packing up and running for cover, heads bowed against the rain. Lanterns that had been hung up were blown down by the wind, with one flying away and drifting downstream along the river.

As the fine drizzle blew into the room, Yue Lin stepped forward to close the window.

This scene triggered something in Chu Hanjin’s mind.

He suddenly saw a deep forest, pouring rain, and his clothes were soaked, sticking heavily to his body.

But he didn’t feel cold; instead, he felt hot. A heat that radiated from below his waist.

His clothes were half-off, and when he looked down, he saw Yue Lin’s reddened eyes—
