Chapter 2.1 Dead Water
Why do people change?
Jian Meng couldn’t understand.
That night, Ji Jing’an came back, and he found a few drops of blood on the bathroom sink.
Jian Meng buried herself in the pillow, leaving only her back to Ji Jing’an, whose figure was much thinner than in memory.
“Why are you getting thinner again?”
Jian Meng’s head ached, ignoring Ji Jing’an.
Ji Jing’an’s expression was slightly cold, as if he felt rare to come back and Jian Meng still gave him the cold shoulder. He asked impatiently, “What’s with the blood in the bathroom?”
“Nosebleed.”
“You didn’t go to the hospital?”
“No.”
“If I don’t accompany you, you won’t go?” Ji Jing’an found it ridiculous.
“Did you come back to argue with me?”
Ji Jing’an was slightly stunned. Jian Meng’s question was extremely plain, her voice weak, and he suddenly lost the energy to argue with her.
Ji Jing’an took a shower. When he came out, Jian Meng was still sleeping with her back to him, quiet and fragile. Ji Jing’an felt a bit of pity and gently lay down, hugging her from behind. He realized that she was even thinner than she looked, which made him uncomfortable. “Have you not been eating properly? How did you become so thin?”
Jian Meng was awakened by the noise, looking annoyed. “No, I just don’t have much appetite.”
“Even if you have no appetite, you still need to eat properly. I will feel sorry if you get thinner.” His words lacked emotion, but his lips touched hers first.
Jian Meng subconsciously shed a tear. She couldn’t bring herself to push him away.
They say the one who falls in love first will lose miserably. Jian Meng felt it was wrong. It was her who fell in love with Ji Jing’an later, but she remained clear-headed from beginning to end, falling deeper and deeper in love, unable to extricate herself.
Jian Meng had a very long dream. She hadn’t slept so well in a long time.
When she woke up, she even had a faint smile, but subconsciously touched the side. Like many mornings before, Ji Jing’an had already left, as if he hadn’t come back last night. The empty villa was once again left with Jian Meng alone.
You say he is cruel, but he does care for himself. Jian Meng had no worries about food and clothing, even a dress worth a fortune; if you say he is good, he seems to have no desire for you.
But Jian Meng just couldn’t help it. Ji Jing’an hurt her, but he could also make her willingly fall for him with a little sweetness.
Jian Meng knew that Ji Jing’an might have more than one woman, but she didn’t want to be a jealous woman… or maybe the real reason was that she couldn’t do anything to save anything, and she didn’t care anymore, just hoping to spend the rest of her life peacefully with him.
She also didn’t want the man who had grown up with her all the way to today to find solace in someone else, she was somewhat unwilling.
As long as it didn’t cause trouble in front of her, she could continue to deceive herself.
Jian Meng smiled bitterly.
The late autumn weather was particularly cold, and Jian Meng could only go out with a khaki wool coat wrapped around her.
She felt it was time to go to the hospital. The pain in her chest had been unusually severe recently. She had even had a nosebleed during breakfast, and there was a hint of a bloody taste in her throat.
After a series of tests, it was already two o’clock. The doctor said the results would be ready by four in the afternoon. Jian Meng had no appetite and just sat on a bench in the hospital corridor waiting.
She didn’t even know when she fell asleep.
“Jian Meng, what are you doing here? Jian Meng?”
Jian Meng opened her eyes and saw a man standing in front of her. She slowly focused her eyes, the man was wearing a light beige shirt, tall and slender, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, almost no different from ten years ago. Jian Meng recognized him at a glance.
She froze slightly, facing Gu Chuan.
It had been almost ten years. Time really flew by quickly. The loves and grudges in college had long become a past teenage drama. There were no conflicts now, just some intangible things lingering between them, making it feel heavy and awkward.
“Gu Chuan.” Jian Meng felt a bit apprehensive, not expecting to meet him here.
“Why are you alone here? The hospital has already closed.”
“I… I have nothing to do, just waiting here for the results.”
Gu Chuan was still as polite and gentle as he was many years ago, always dressed in light colors, which was somewhat similar to Jian Meng.
“Your complexion doesn’t look good. Why are you alone?” Gu Chuan asked before realizing it was inappropriate. He lowered his eyes for a moment before hearing Jian Meng’s response.
“Jing has been busy lately, so I came alone.”
Only then did Gu Chuan look at her. “Yes, I heard he invested in new energy and then shifted his focus to new media. Our family is cooperating with him, and my dad asked me to come back and help him.”
“Is that so, that’s good.” Jian Meng replied with a lowered face.
Gu Chuan hesitated. He had seen Ji Jing’an at a party that day. He was more decisive than many years ago, with deep eyes that revealed his calculating nature.
He had also seen Ji Jing’an hugging a woman who wasn’t Jian Meng.
Just as he was about to say something, a nurse suddenly called out, “Jian Meng, your report is ready, please come to the doctor’s office.”
Jian Meng quickly got up, hastily said goodbye, and went to the doctor’s office. Gu Chuan hesitated for a moment before following.
He was a few steps behind, and when he entered, Jian Meng was sitting across from the doctor, a few tears falling down, wetting the examination report in her hand.
Gu Chuan took a few steps forward and finally saw the words on the report.
A malignant tumor disease caused by a hematopoietic system disorder.
