Chapter 054
“It’s not a good photo; let’s take another one.”
When Lu Jin said this a second time, He Ye, guessing he was joking, pushed him away and walked forward.
“I’m not lying,” Lu Jin said, holding her back and showing her the phone screen. “If you don’t believe me, check for yourself.”
He Ye looked at the screen, confused.
In the photo, she was wearing a silly wreath and tilting her head to kiss him. Lu Jin’s mouth was smiling, and his eyes sparkled.
He Ye: “…”
It was bad enough already, but he was being cheeky about it!
She tried to shake off his hand, but Lu Jin slipped the phone into his pocket with one hand while holding her hand tightly with the other.
He was tall, and his long fingers clasped her hand, wrapping around her palm.
He didn’t say anything, but his intentions were clear.
He Ye felt weak. Her eyes drifted over the distant woods and then fell to the ground.
Some plum blossoms had bloomed early, and petals littered the ground. Lu Jin stepped on the petals and stood in front of her.
They faced each other, their clasped hands changing positions, with Lu Jin’s thumb moving to the palm of He Ye’s hand.
She felt uneasy with the distance and silence, unsure of what he might do next.
She felt like she was back to the tense moments before checking her college entrance exam scores.
They had kissed many times before, so she was mentally prepared. Even if he kissed her, it would be less nerve-wracking than if he didn’t say anything.
“He Ye.”
Here we go again!
He Ye couldn’t take his tone anymore and felt helpless, so she turned and asked, “What?”
Her voice was soft and ended on a high note, sounding almost flirtatious without her realizing it.
Lu Jin’s gaze darkened slightly. He placed his thumb on her palm and gently pinched her delicate skin.
He Ye waited for him to speak and didn’t notice the little gesture.
Lu Jin looked at her long eyelashes and said, “When I sent you home yesterday afternoon, I forgot to ask something at your door.”
He Ye was surprised; that was when he asked if she wanted to try being together again.
“What it is about?”
She really couldn’t think of anything.
Lu Jin continued: “When we broke up at the badminton court, you said you didn’t like me and agreed to be with me just to give it a try.”
He Ye: “…”
Her face turned red, feeling as embarrassed as if her ex-boyfriend was bringing up the past.
Lu Jin added, “I don’t mean anything else; I just want to know, besides my good looks, excellent grades, and how I care for you, is there any reason you agreed to be with me this time because you like me?”
He Ye bit her lip and glared at his hand: “You ask, even though you know the answer.”
Lu Jin said, “Okay, I get it. The photo we just took is proof. If you ever want to break up again, I’ll just show you that photo.”
He Ye turned away, mumbling, “As if I would break up with you so easily.”
Lu Jin replied, “No, if you really want to break up, I must have done something wrong.”
He Ye: “…”
Lu Jin continued, “What I mean is, if I can prove you like me now, then when you want to break up again, at least I can still try to save the relationship.”
He Ye: “Okay, then you wait; I’ll wait too to see how else you can provoke me.”
Lu Jin: “…”
The university bully was speechless, so He Ye smiled and urged him, “Okay, continue shopping.”
Lu Jin turned around, and after his girlfriend lay on his back, he said determinedly, “Don’t worry, this time, even if you ask me to come over in the middle of the night, I won’t go.”
He Ye grabbed his shoulder and said, “Don’t worry; even if I accidentally slip and can’t stand up, I wouldn’t call you in the middle of the night.”
Lu Jin: “This is a normal need; we should still shout.”
He Ye covered her ears: “Stop talking.”
Lu Jin: “Okay.”
After visiting Meishan, they quickly drove to a shopping mall and restaurant nearby for dinner.
He Ye ordered first, and after that, Lu Jin took the menu to add two more dishes but suddenly looked up.
He Ye quickly put down her phone.
Lu Jin was surprised: “Secretly filming?”
He Ye’s face turned red as she explained, “Who wants to secretly take photos? I was thinking of getting facial recognition for you so that I don’t have to call the door every time. I’m alone at home, and if it suddenly rings quietly, I’ll be easily startled.”
Lu Jin lowered his eyes and said calmly, “Is it necessary? I don’t go there often.”
He Ye: “…Yes, it’s unnecessary. I deleted the photo.”
Afraid he couldn’t see it, she put her phone on the dining table and deleted the message in front of him.
Lu Jin smiled indifferently.
After dinner, he drove her home. When they pushed the wheelchair to the elevator in the garage and needed to open the door, He Ye wanted to stand up, but her boyfriend held her down: “It’s too troublesome; help me set one up.”
He Ye: “No trouble; just stand for a while.”
Lu Jin: “The doctor told you to rest more.”
He Ye wanted to retort again, but someone suddenly flicked her earlobe with a finger: “Stop it; I really need it.”
He Ye paused and took out her cell phone.
Lu Jin walked around to her side, held onto the wheelchair, and squatted on one knee, trying to be at her level.
The man with cold features looked straight at her with dark eyes, like a wild beast seeing its favorite prey, with wanton and burning passion, as if it was natural.
Even though there was a mobile phone between them, He Ye didn’t have the courage to look him in the eye. She just casually took a picture and lowered her head to operate the phone.
Lu Jin moved closer to see her settings.
Some information needed to be filled in, such as the relationship between the person and the owner. In fact, the review was not that strict. Under Lu Jin’s overly direct gaze, He Ye smiled and typed in “old classmate.”
Just as she typed the pinyin, Lu Jin snatched the phone away. When he handed it back, the relationship column was changed to “husband.”
He Ye really thought he was quite shameless sometimes!
Lu Jin unlocked the door by himself and pushed her inside. He caught a glimpse of her modifying the note. After some hesitation, she finally decided on “boyfriend.”
After going upstairs, He Ye used the bathroom in the master bedroom, then returned to find Lu Jin sitting on the sofa, choosing a movie.
He Ye: “…Didn’t you say you wanted to avoid suspicion?”
Lu Jin: “I’ll take care of it myself. Go to sleep for a while. Remember to lock the door.”
He Ye: “…Do you want to lie down for a while? The sofa or the second bedroom is fine.”
It was already past three o’clock, and dinner needed to be prepared at six o’clock. There was no need for him to run back and forth between two neighborhoods.
Lu Jin glanced at her and said, “The second bedroom.”
He Ye’s parents will not live with their daughter. The second bedroom was prepared by He Ye to entertain her grandparents. Usually, only a mattress is placed there, and the bed sheets are kept in the cabinet. They are all new, washed, and have not been used yet.
He Ye stood at the door and instructed Lu Jin to make his own bed since she couldn’t move around easily now.
The bed set was gray-blue. After Lu Jin unfolded it, he looked at his girlfriend with complicated eyes.
He Ye: “…My grandparents like this color.”
Lu Jin: “Remember, even if I get old, my aesthetic taste will not change to this.”
He Ye: “It’s up to you. It has nothing to do with me.”
After saying that, she went back to the master bedroom to rest and actually locked the door from the inside.
Once in bed, He Ye couldn’t fall asleep for a while and listened to the noise coming from his side.
A few minutes later, Lu Jin sent a screenshot. It was the facial recognition page he set up for her. The photo used was a solo photo of He Ye taken today. Relationship: wife.
He Ye: [According to my college roommate, many boys would give their girlfriends this note after they start dating. I didn’t expect you to be so vulgar.]
Lu Jin: [Provocation?]
He Ye: [Just the facts.]
Lu Jin: [It doesn’t matter. Dating is a very common thing. It has been going on throughout human history. No one can come up with new ideas.]
He Ye: […By the way, send me the photos you took today.]
Lu Jin posted more than 30 photos in a row, many of which he took secretly!
He Ye was embarrassed to look at them in front of him. Now that she was alone, she stared at one special photo for several minutes.
It took a long time for Lu Jin to send another message: [Sleep?]
He Ye: [Yes.]
During dinner, there was something He Ye had to talk to him about.
“When you go to work tomorrow, how are you going to tell everyone about our relationship?” He Ye moved the rice in her bowl and asked while looking at him.
Lu Jin: “Look at you; you don’t want to make it public, so I’m still in the stage of pursuing you unilaterally. If you don’t mind making it public, I will tell the truth: first love girlfriend, old love rekindled.”
He Ye lowered her head: “I’m afraid they will ask why we broke up in the first place.”
Any other reason would be fine, but that kind of thing is embarrassing to even think about.
Lu Jin: “You mean, let’s just treat this as our first time dating?”
He Ye: “That’s okay. We were classmates and got together when we met at work.”
Lu Jin: “Of course, I can. But won’t it make you seem too easy to pursue? You have only been working for a month, which is inconsistent with the facts.”
He Ye: “…”
Lu Jin: “Or let’s say I had a crush on you in high school, but you were so focused on studying that you didn’t agree. After we met again, you were moved by my sincerity.”
He Ye wanted to laugh but decided to go along with the idea of secret love.
The next morning, Lu Jin picked up He Ye at eight o’clock. The journey was smooth, but when they arrived at the company and had breakfast in the cafeteria, He Ye felt a little nervous.
Lu Jin looked at his watch and said, “Luckily, only Hu Qiang is probably here.”
He Ye relaxed a bit. In their operation control team, Brother Qiang was serious and only joked occasionally.
The office was right in front of them. He Ye stood by the wall and motioned for Lu Jin to go in first.
Lu Jin entered with a smile.
“Oh my, he’s actually smiling! He’s been our team leader for a year; when has he ever smiled so proudly?”
“It’s different after falling in love!”
“Where’s He Ye? Isn’t she hiding outside?”
Familiar voices came from Cheng Rui, Feng Qiuyu, and Brother Qiang.
He Ye: “…”
As she was about to disappear, she heard Lu Jin say, “She’s shy; you guys should be normal.”
“Okay, okay, listen to Team Leader. Everyone, lower your heads. When He Ye comes in, no one is allowed to look at her.”
The office went quiet.
He Ye leaned against the wall, her cheeks turning red.
Fortunately, Liu Fei appeared at the end of the corridor. When he saw He Ye, he brightened up and ran over with a box of yogurt in one hand and a box of nuts in the other: “He Ye, how’s your foot? I’m really sorry about what happened that day. I didn’t know what you liked to eat, so I brought two things…”
His sincere apology and simple gift eased He Ye’s embarrassment, and she walked in while rejecting the gift.
Liu Fei: “Take it, or I’ll feel bad… Hey, why are you all here so early?”
While he was distracted, He Ye hurried to her workstation and used the screen to shield herself.
Liu Fei was still confused when someone suddenly took the yogurt and snacks from his hands.
Liu Fei stared blankly at Lu Jin.
Lu Jin: “Thank you.”
Liu Fei: “???”
