Qiao Yiyi disliked that scumbag Lin Hao even more.
Shi Jiachen was just playing ambiguous games, but Lin Hao was the kind who dated multiple girls and played one-night stands. He was downright filthy.
She ignored Lin Hao’s comment and looked at Shi Jiachen. “I thought you had something urgent. I’ve been a bit busy lately, so I haven’t checked my messages.”
Hearing this, Shi Jiachen immediately frowned.
These days, who doesn’t check their phone messages? Unless you’re someone like Song Jing, who’s socially disconnected and weird.
Boarding students all try to sneak phones into school, let alone Qiao Yiyi, who’s a day student.
Before, when he replied to her once, he could feel her overwhelming excitement even through the screen. Qiao Yiyi was still smiling now, but it wasn’t joy. It was more like polite courtesy.
So now she only talks to him if there’s something important?
“I’ll head back to class first.” She was still smiling and turned away before finishing her sentence.
Lin Hao watched Qiao Yiyi’s back and looked at Shi Jiachen with a knowing expression. “This girl’s actually a good one to mess with. Sweet and soft types like her are rare. Feels like she’d be fun.”
“You think I’m like you?” Shi Jiachen shot him a glance. “Be careful or you’ll get into trouble.”
Lin Hao didn’t care. “What kind of trouble? That deskmate of hers isn’t bad either. Watch me go flirt with her.”
……
Qiao Yiyi returned to the classroom and placed the water bottle on Song Jing’s desk.
He had his head down, writing on test papers, as if he didn’t even notice she had come back.
Qiao Yiyi leaned over and looked a few times. Seeing he still had no reaction and kept his head down, she asked, “Is this really hard to organize?”
Why did he seem a little off emotionally?
“It’s fine.” Song Jing’s tone was flat, hard to read.
Qiao Yiyi glanced at Song Jing several times. He was smoothly recording notes in his notebook and did not pay her any attention at all.
Something was off.
She tore open a pack of crispy biscuits, took a bite, and handed it to him. “Try this. It tastes pretty good.”
“You eat it.” Song Jing still did not look up.
His attitude was even somewhat distant.
So much so that when Hao Qin came back and saw Song Jing’s attitude, she did not suspect their relationship at all. Instead, she snatched Qiao Yiyi’s biscuits and munched several pieces in a row.
The class bell rang, and Qiao Yiyi had to get ready for class.
As soon as she turned around, Song Jing stopped writing. He looked at the messy notes in his notebook, expressionless, closed it, threw it into the drawer, and took out a new one to start over from the beginning.
Although Qiao Yiyi was confused, once class started, she would put away all her thoughts.
Now, she had no second path to take.
The college entrance exam was her only remaining road.
She focused all her energy and worked hard to tackle the areas of knowledge she did not understand before.
In the past, after evening self-study, Qiao Yiyi would go home and could not resist the temptation of her phone. She would either binge dramas, watch anime, or play games. Now, she studied consistently until two in the morning.
When she told Shi Jiachen she had not checked her messages, she truly did not have time to look.
After class, most of the students in the class lay down to catch up on sleep.
Qiao Yiyi was still working on the last big question the teacher had explained, backtracking formulas.
She had been thinking about this problem for two full periods and still could not figure it out, so she had to ask Song Jing for help.
Hao Qin raised her eyebrows when she saw Qiao Yiyi go to ask Song Jing.
Because he was good at studying, many people came to ask him questions, but this guy was very aloof. Whether he would explain or not depended on his mood. Most of the time, he ignored people.
Occasionally, he would drop one or two brief sentences, and as academic underachievers, they could not understand a thing.
Hao Qin had thickened her skin and asked several times before finally giving up.
Qiao Yiyi was even more shameless than her. She smiled and clung to Song Jing to ask questions. Because her foundation was better than Hao Qin’s, she could understand the few lines of “heavenly scriptures” this academic god wrote.
“I don’t understand this step,” Qiao Yiyi frowned and looked at Song Jing.
Song Jing did not lift his head. He continued organizing notes and did not respond.
Hao Qin was afraid Qiao Yiyi would be embarrassed, so she held back her laughter and looked away before walking off.
In her opinion, Qiao Yiyi had a soft appearance, and her naturally sweet voice was the kind of tone boys loved to hear. In the class, that charm was irresistible to any guy.
But it did not work on Song Jing.
Qiao Yiyi was not in a hurry. She waited for him quietly.
Suddenly, she heard Song Jing let out a very soft sigh. He looked up, glanced at her quickly, took the test paper, scanned it briefly, and added two formulas beside it.
Qiao Yiyi felt that he had suddenly become cold. Wasn’t he fine just now?
She pushed her pen forward, then gently patted the back of his hand. Her baby face held a bit of grievance.
So hard to get along with.
“What’s wrong?” Although Song Jing said this, his expression remained cold.
Qiao Yiyi was quite sensitive to his emotions. She snorted, turned her head with the test paper, and showed him her back.
Song Jing looked down, gripping the pen tightly as he stared at the notes in his notebook. He held it so tightly that his fingertips turned white.
He had very sharp hearing. For some time now, he often heard Qiao Yiyi and Hao Qin talking about Shi Jiachen and Lin Hao—not just between classes, but even during lessons.
Qiao Yiyi was once thrilled just to get Shi Jiachen’s contact info, wearing a lovestruck expression.
Before, Song Jing only felt a stuffy weight in his heart like several stones pressing down. Now, he could not suppress his jealousy. He was afraid his emotions would show, so he tried hard to distance himself from her.
Qiao Yiyi was popular with the opposite sex, always smiling at everyone and full of emotion, but he was different. He knew very clearly that he was already falling.
All morning, Qiao Yiyi could not figure out what was wrong with Song Jing.
After school, she did not go home immediately. After all the students left, she turned around angrily, her bright and clear eyes staring at him with fury.
Song Jing closed his textbook and met her face.
Sometimes, when someone looks too distinctive, even if they’re angry, it’s not scary at all.
Like now—Qiao Yiyi’s baby face puffed with anger, her eyes clearly saying “I’m not happy,” but the first thing Song Jing thought of was a pufferfish.
Just added a layer of cuteness.
“I don’t like this version of you!” the little puffer Qiao said, her voice soft and sweet.
What kind of deterrence could a baby voice have? She was more like an angry little pufferfish, puffed up all over, making people want to tease her.
Song Jing: “……”
