Chapter 17: Mo Jinnan
As a descendant of a family specializing in ancient martial arts and medicine in the 23rd century, she was quite knowledgeable about weapons.
With a glance, she could tell that the sword lodged in the tiger’s eye was no ordinary item; the person who saved her wouldn’t simply abandon such a treasure.
Hu Zhaodi pulled out the sword and followed the direction it had come from.
After walking a few steps, she heard heavy breathing.
“Miss, I’m over here,” a weak voice called out.
Following the sound, Hu Zhaodi saw a man in black attire, handsome with chiseled features, clutching his abdomen in pain, using one hand to support himself as he attempted to stand.
Hu Zhaodi’s pupils contracted, and she hurried over to help the man.
“Were you the one who saved me? How did you get injured?”
The man frowned. “Is there anyone else here besides me?”
Hu Zhaodi pouted; although this man was good-looking, his temper was truly terrible.
From his attire, it was clear that he was the son of a wealthy family. How could he possibly be in this desolate mountain village?
No matter what, he had saved her life, so she decided to overlook his bad temper!
Regardless of whether he was the son of a rich family, treating his injury would be a way to repay his life-saving grace.
“Let’s find a place for you to lie down. I’ll check your injuries.”
The man seemed unconcerned. “Miss, is there a cave nearby? Take me to a cave first, and then help me find a doctor. Consider it repaying the favor of saving your life.”
Hu Zhaodi rolled her eyes inwardly. “I don’t know if there’s a cave nearby, but the one supporting you right now is the doctor.”
The man looked at Hu Zhaodi in shock. This glance made his heart skip a beat, and he was momentarily stunned.
This face…
Could it be her?
His thoughts drifted to Bianjing.
Seeing the man staring at her in a daze, Hu Zhaodi asked suspiciously, “Am I that pretty? Did I mesmerize you?”
The man tugged at the corner of his mouth. “You? You’re a doctor?”
Hu Zhaodi shrugged. “Doesn’t look like it?”
“Honestly, not at all. Even if you said it, I’d still find it hard to believe.”
Hu Zhaodi pouted. “Believe it or not, I can save your life.”
The man smiled awkwardly. “Then I’ll trouble you, Miss, to lend a hand and save my life.”
Hu Zhaodi helped the man find a spot to sit and began to examine his injuries.
The man had been stabbed in the abdomen, and although it didn’t injure his organs, the dangerous part was that the weapon he was wounded with had been poisoned.
If he hadn’t had such deep internal strength and controlled the spread of the poison with his energy, he would have already met his demise.
After identifying the poison he had been inflicted with, Hu Zhaodi’s expression changed unpredictably.
Damn it, could it be this coincidental?
This man had just saved her life, and now she had to save his—was she supposed to ask him for money?
But that was the precious red ganoderma she had worked so hard to find!
She had hoped to sell it for silver to build a big house, but now it seemed her efforts were in vain.
With a hint of reluctance, Hu Zhaodi glanced at the man. He was indeed handsome, with a sculpted face, distinct features, and deep, captivating eyes that hinted at foreign ancestry. He had a high nose bridge, moderately thin lips, and hair as dark as ink, exuding an extraordinary aura.
In terms of looks, he was no worse than the fresh young faces of the 23rd century.
Fine, given that he had saved her life and matched her aesthetic standards, Hu Zhaodi decided not to dwell on that red ganoderma any longer.
After treating the man’s wound, she said, “Young master, your injury hasn’t reached any vital points, but the poison is a bit troublesome. It will take half a month to completely clear it.”
The man was slightly surprised. “You can detoxify this poison?”
“Of course, but I’m an orphan with no one to rely on. Right now, I’m just borrowing a place to stay from a kind family in the village, so I can’t provide you with accommodations.”
“No problem.” The man pointed to his left. “If we go this way, there’s a cave in the valley where I can rest.”
“Alright, you lead the way, and I’ll take you there. Then I’ll go back and get a pot to prepare your medicine.”
With that, Hu Zhaodi instructed the man to sheathe his sword. She took her backpack back, helped him up, and walked in the direction he indicated.
After walking a distance, Hu Zhaodi excused herself to let the man rest against a tree while she quickly ran back to collect the tiger’s corpse into her space.
After escorting the man to the cave he mentioned, Hu Zhaodi gathered some dry firewood, lit a fire, gave him a few instructions, and prepared to leave.
The man spoke up: “Mo Jinnan.”
Hu Zhaodi: ??? “What’s that?”
“My name. call me Mo Jinnan.”
Hu Zhaodi nodded. “Oh! I’m Hu Zhaodi. Rest well, and I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Leaving, Hu Zhaodi headed straight to the Ji family. Ji Grandpa hadn’t even planned to go out to meet her yet.
After briefly explaining the situation to Grandpa Ji and his wife, Hu Zhaodi found a medicinal pot and a blackened cooking pot and rushed back to the mountain.
Seeing Hu Zhaodi’s departing figure, Ji Grandma looked distressed.
Sigh!
It was all due to their poverty; they didn’t even have an extra room.
However, it wasn’t appropriate to bring a strange man back when Hu Zhaodi wasn’t even married yet.
What if he turned out to be a bad person? Wouldn’t that be inviting a wolf into the house?
Forget it, let’s trust Zhaodi. Let that man recuperate in the cave!
Once in the mountains, Hu Zhaodi took out the medicinal herbs from her space in advance, prepared what she needed, and then headed towards the cave.
The cave was somewhat secluded, but fortunately, there was a small stream about thirty meters away, making it convenient for boiling medicine and cooking.
Hu Zhaodi carried the medicinal pot to the stream to wash it, then filled it with water to soak the herbs.
Returning to the cave, she handed the pot to Mo Jinnan. “This medicine needs to soak for the time it takes to burn a stick of incense before it starts to brew. You can watch the pot while I go find something to eat.”
Mo Jinnan nodded. “Thank you, Miss!”
Hu Zhaodi pouted and didn’t respond further; she still felt a pang of regret about the red ganoderma.
The price of this life-saving grace was truly a bit steep!
It didn’t matter; as long as the man she was saving wasn’t a heinous villain, that would be enough.
Venturing deeper into the mountain, Hu Zhaodi held a machete in her right hand, carefully moving forward.
After wandering around, she caught two wild rabbits, a wild chicken, and some commonly used medicinal herbs.
Stowing the herbs in her space, Hu Zhaodi carried the rabbits and chicken back to the cave.
Seeing the wild rabbits and chicken, Mo Jinnan raised an eyebrow. “Do you know how to handle them?”
Hu Zhaodi wrinkled her nose. “Are you looking down on me? If I said I couldn’t handle them, would you do it instead?”
Mo Jinnan got up to take the wild rabbits and chicken. “I’ll handle them instead.”
“Alright, just focus on recovering from your injuries. Once you get better, hurry up and leave. Then we’ll consider it even.”
Mo Jinnan twitched his lips; his wound still hurt, so he could only obediently sit back down by the fire.
Hu Zhaodi went to the stream with the rabbits and chicken, quickly cleaned them, then took out some seasonings from her space to marinate them.
After marinating the meat, she brought it back to the cave.
