Chapter 102: It Was Confirmed

Xu Xueyou’s gentle face was clouded with disbelief as he realized his university spot had been stolen.

His eyes widened as he watched Jiang Meixin walk down the street, greeting villagers with a haughty air.

Maxim is back,” they said with smiles.

Maxim went to college and became even more beautiful,” others remarked.

The city water really does make people look better. Maxim has only been in college for a year and a half, and she’s already so beautiful, just like the city folk.”

Every villager greeted Jiang Meixin with warmth and enthusiasm.

But the Jiang Meixin Xu Xueyou knew was different. She ignored the elders who greeted her, her chin held high, her nostrils flaring.

Could this really be the classmate he knew?  Was she hiding her true personality? Was her gentle, considerate, and helpful demeanor in school all a facade?

Xu Xueyou felt like his world was crumbling.

Gu Dongqing, although he didn’t receive a direct answer from Xu Xueyou, understood from his reaction that Jiang Meixin was the imposter.

His wife’s university spot had been stolen!

Gu Dongqing’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint in his gaze.

As Jiang Meixin and Liu Fujuan walked by, Gu Dongqing subtly nodded to Liu Fujuan.

Liu Fujuan, sensing the signal, quickly passed Jiang Meixin.

Hey, Liu Fujuan, what are you doing?  Are you running off to be reincarnated?” Jiang Meixin scoffed.

Liu Fujuan stopped and looked back at the arrogant Jiang Meixin. “I suddenly remembered that I have to go weed the pigsty. I can’t play with you.”

Go back by yourself,” Jiang Meixin said dismissively.

Liu Fujuan, without a second glance, walked away.  Her attitude towards Jiang Meixin was vastly different from before.

But then again, Liu Fujuan never truly liked Jiang Meixin.  If Gu Dongqing hadn’t asked her to find Jiang Meixin, she wouldn’t have bothered with this arrogant woman.

Even though Jiang Meixin was a college student, it didn’t give her the right to look down on others.  Liu Fujuan’s own cousin was a college student, but he was always helpful and humble.

Jiang Meixin, on the other hand, acted as if she were a high-ranking official inspecting the countryside.

Liu Fujuan, unbothered, completed her task and left.

Jiang Meixin, confused but unconcerned, felt her sense of superiority grow.  The villagers, with their endless farm work, were beneath her. She had made the right choice by going to college and escaping this dirty, smelly countryside.

Inside the Jiang family’s main room, the old man was puzzled by Gu Dongqing’s sudden return and the presence of a stranger. But he didn’t question them.

Gu Dongqing poured a glass of water for Xu Xueyou, who drank a large bowl of warm water before regaining his composure.

He confirmed that Jiang Meixin was indeed Jiang Mingyue, a second-year student at Nanda’s School of Liberal Arts, and the one Xu Xueyou was dating.

I can’t believe someone would actually go to college under someone else’s name,” Xu Xueyou said, his voice filled with disbelief.

Gu Dongqing’s lips curled into a cold smile.

The old man, weaving bamboo baskets outside, almost scratched his finger on the bamboo strips as he heard Xu Xueyou’s words.

He set down his work, stood up, and walked towards the house.

What? What did you say, young man?  Our second daughter, did she really get into college?”

The old man’s hands trembled uncontrollably.

Gu Dongqing quickly stepped forward to support him. “Grandpa, don’t be anxious. Don’t let your anger ruin your health.”

How can I not be anxious!” Tears welled up in the old man’s eyes. “Last year, Erya didn’t get the admission notice.

She cried all day and night in front of her parents’ graves.  I got a high fever after she came back, and I almost lost her.”

Even though a year and a half had passed, the old man still vividly recalled his granddaughter’s near-death experience.

He had been willing to sell his blood to allow her to retake the college entrance exam.

Who knew that his granddaughter had been accepted but was later impersonated by another? And that person was his other granddaughter…

Mr. Jiang was furious, his face turning an alarming shade of red.

Gu Dongqing helped him sit down, and Xu Xueyou poured him a bowl of water.

Grandpa, don’t let your anger get the better of you. Mingyue and the others will be worried.”

Yes, grandpa, don’t be too hasty. I will report this matter to the school,” Xu Xueyou added.

He liked Jiang Meixin, but his conscience wouldn’t allow him to ignore this injustice.  He chose his principles over his feelings.

He would not abandon Jiang Meixin, however.  If she was truly pregnant with his child, he wouldn’t reject her, even if she wasn’t a college student.

But… Xu Xueyou couldn’t help but wonder if he had truly done something with Jiang Meixin that night when he was drunk.  Could it be another lie?

He was confused.

But for now, he would focus on addressing the issue of the fraudulent college admission.

It wasn’t long before they returned to the town.

Jiang Mingyue, waiting for news at home, received confirmation with a sense of resignation rather than excitement.

“It turns out I really passed the exam…”

Wife,” Gu Dongqing said, taking her hand and gently pressing it against his cheek. “I promise to make sure Jiang Meixin is punished.

If you want to go to college, we can wait. You can retake the college entrance exam after the baby is born.

I will support you, and you can go to college as many times as you want.”

Gu Dongqing was heartbroken when he thought about how devastated Jiang Mingyue had been after failing the college entrance exam.

He was willing to support her, even if it meant being separated.

The warmth of his touch brought her back to reality.  Looking at the man who was even more distressed than she was, she smiled softly.

What will you do when I go to college? What about the child? We just got married, and you want to be in different places?”

You can go to college as many times as you want.  Do you think going to college is like going to the bathroom?”

The fact that she had a loving husband and could earn a living made the loss of her college opportunity seem less painful.

If she were still trapped with the Dong family, she might have collapsed.

But she was fine now. Her family’s strength had made her resilient.

I won’t be separated from my wife,

Gu Dongqing declared.

Wherever my wife goes, my children and I will go.
