Chapter 104: You can’t be arrogant for long

Jiang Meixin’s arrogant face, usually a weapon of intimidation, was now reflected in their eyes, revealing her true nature.

Jiang Meixin! Jiang Xinyue exclaimed, immediately springing to her feet, ready to confront her.

Jiang Meiyue quickly grabbed her arm. “Xinyue, don’t be impulsive.”

Xinyue, Jiang Mingyue added, signaling her grandmother to keep quiet.  She also stopped Jiang Xinyue.

With both sisters holding her back, Jiang Xinyue could only swallow her anger.  She stood beside them, glaring at Jiang Meixin, her hand clenching and unclenching, ready to pounce.

Jiang Mingyue, taking a few steps forward, stopped behind the steamer, a few meters away from Jiang Meixin.

Isn’t this my cousin, the college student from the city?  Isn’t it a bit disrespectful for a college student to eat at a roadside stall like ours?” she asked, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

In order not to disappoint my cousin, whose status has diminished, we can’t sell you these steamed dumplings.”

Before Jiang Meixin could respond, Jiang Xinyue chimed in, “Yeah, get out of here. You’re an eyesore.”

Jiang Xinyue, with her fiery temper, couldn’t hold back her anger.

Jiang Meixin was surprised to find herself the target of scorn.  Her hands clenched into fists, her face contorting with anger. She was about to lash out but then thought better of it. A sly smile spread across her face.

Oh, a bunch of country bumpkins,” she sneered. “If you don’t want to sell, then don’t.  Do you think I want to eat your food? I’m afraid your dirty things will stain my mouth.”

Jiang Meixin, remembering her newfound status as a college student, felt superior to these “country bumpkins.” She turned to leave, not before throwing a final barb.

A country bumpkin who lives her life in the mud, an old woman rejected by men, unable to bear a son. She remarried an old man and is pregnant with a bastard whose father is unknown.”

She paused, her gaze falling on the furious Jiang Xinyue. “And you, a yellow-haired girl who thinks she can get into college!”

Haha, you sisters are really funny,” she continued, her voice dripping with disdain. “According to me, you sisters should just die in the mud and spend the rest of your lives guarding your two immortals.”

Jiang Meixin, as Zhao Meihua’s daughter, inherited her mother’s shrewish nature.  Despite her college status, her inner nature remained unchanged.

Her cruel words ignited Jiang Xinyue’s fury. She bared her teeth, raising the water ladle in her hand, ready to strike.

Xinyue, Jiang Mingyue intervened, stopping her sister.

Jiang Xinyue, frustrated, argued, “Sister…”

It’s okay. Don’t worry about her,” Jiang Mingyue said calmly, her emotions unruffled. “We can’t bark back at a dog when it barks at us.”

Remember, we are human beings. We don’t need to pay attention to the barking of dogs.”

The best way to deal with a dog was to beat it or kick it to death, without wasting words.  But Jiang Mingyue felt the time wasn’t right yet.

Jiang Xinyue was about to explode, her cheeks puffed out, her chest heaving.  She was struggling to contain her anger.

“Pah!” A slap echoed through the air, landing on Jiang Meixin’s cheek.

Jiang Meixin was stunned, staring blankly at Old Mrs. Jiang, her hands trembling.

Blind old thing, how dare you hit me?” she exclaimed, covering her face.

Old Mrs. Jiang raised her hand and slapped her again. “Old lady, I am your grandmother. Even if I beat you to death today, you deserve it.”

Jiang Mingyue and her sisters couldn’t intervene, but the old lady, as the elder, had no qualms about taking action.

She didn’t stop at two slaps.  She grabbed an empty steamer from the table and smashed it against Jiang Meixin’s body.

I’ll beat you to death, you unfilial girl!  You think you’re a superior person now that you’re in college, and you don’t even respect your mother?” she roared.

Don’t say I’ll beat you to death.  Even your father, I could beat him to death.”

The elders had the right to discipline the younger generation, and no one would criticize her for using harsh words.

The other vendors on the street applauded the old lady’s actions.  Jiang Meixin had been arrogant and disrespectful, and they were glad to see her get a taste of her own medicine.

Jiang Meixin, proud of her college status, had believed it elevated her above everyone else.  But when she faced the unreasonable Old Mrs. Jiang, her status was meaningless.

She was beaten, and she wanted to retaliate.

Jiang Mingyue and Jiang Xinyue, who had been watching, immediately rushed forward and held Jiang Meixin down.

Jiang Meixin, you’ve already committed treason by insulting grandma, and you still want to attack her? Aren’t you afraid of thunder and lightning?” Jiang Mingyue asked sternly.

Jiang Xinyue, holding Jiang Meixin’s other arm, took the opportunity to pinch her twice.

Jiang Meixin screamed in pain.

Jiang Meixin, do you really think your college status protects you?  Can you be so arrogant that you even beat up your elders?”

Jiang Mingyue noticed someone approaching from the corner of her eye.  She knew the time was right for a showdown.

With a slight smile, she stepped forward.

Jiang Meixin, didn’t anyone tell you that if you steal or rob something that isn’t yours, you’ll have to pay it back one day?”

Let me go, Jiang Meixin struggled, held down by the two sisters. She glared at Jiang Mingyue with resentment. “Jiang Mingyue, what are you talking about? What are you stealing?”

I, a dignified college student…

Comrade, that’s her. She’s the one who pretended to be my wife’s college student,” Gu Dongqing’s voice rang out from the crowd.

Jiang Meixin froze, her voice caught in her throat.

She turned, disbelief etched on her face, and looked at Gu Dongqing, the police officer behind him, and Xu Xueyou…
