Chapter 87: Do You Have to Pay for Divorce?
If Jiang Meiyue’s indifference was a provocation to the Hu family, then Jiang Mingyue’s attitude at this moment was akin to tearing the Hu family’s facade off and trampling it into the ground.
The entire Hu family, led by Mrs. Hu, was infuriated by Jiang Mingyue’s arrogant demeanor.
Hu Yun was so angry that her face turned red and white, speechless in her fury. Old Mrs. Hu was so enraged she nearly collapsed, supported only by those around her.
You, you, you second-married woman! We are talking to your eldest sister, and you have no place to interrupt here!” Mrs. Hu’s lips trembled as she scolded Jiang Mingyue, berating her for being shameless.
Jiang Mingyue merely sneered in response.
Standing beside her, Gu Dongqing rolled up his sleeves, picked up a pebble from the ground with his toes, and kicked it toward Hu Laoer. The pebble struck Hu Laoer’s calf, causing him to fall to his knees with a groan of pain.
The loud thud of his knees hitting the ground echoed clearly.
The unexpected turn of events shocked the Hu family. The younger ones displayed panic, but Mrs. Hu, as the elder, attempted to maintain her composure despite her racing heart.
How can you hit someone when you’re so good…” she started, trying to regain control.
Who said I hit someone?” Gu Dongqing’s voice was cold. “I just want to tell you that you can eat randomly, but you can’t say random words.”
I’m nothing. Just protecting my own. Try saying something about my wife again,” he threatened, his expression unwavering.
Next time, the stone won’t hit your son’s calf but could end up in his mouth or his eyes.”
If a stone that could bring a person to their knees were to fly into his mouth, he might lose all his front teeth. If it struck his eyes, the consequences could be dire.
Old Mrs. Hu recoiled at the implication.
The other Hu family members nearby were also taken aback by Gu Dongqing’s harsh words.
Mrs. Hu looked around, noticing that none of her children dared to speak up. In frustration, she slapped her thigh and sat down on the ground, wailing.
Why is my life so miserable? Even after marrying a daughter-in-law who can’t give birth to a son, she still bullies us at the door of my house!”
Whose mother-in-law is as useless as I am? she lamented.
Her cries went unnoticed, and Jiang Meiyue remained unmoved.
Old Mrs. Hu actually rolled on the ground, despite the muddy conditions left after the rain. The ground was still wet, and anyone would want to tiptoe through it.
Seeing Old Mrs. Hu rolling back and forth in the mud was a sight no one could take seriously.
What was even more amusing was that aside from Hu Wenguang’s embarrassed expression, his siblings acted as if they were used to this behavior and chose to ignore it.
Jiang Meiyue watched this scene with a mixture of disgust and disbelief.
Hu Wenguang, if you still want to save face for your Hu family, don’t roll around here.”
“Meiyue…” Hu Wenguang stammered.
Jiang Daya, what did you say?” Old Mrs. Hu, now covered in mud, felt something was off at Jiang Meiyue’s tone.
She struggled to her feet and demanded, “Who are you talking to?”
Jiang Meiyue didn’t want to respond to Old Mrs. Hu’s provocations. She kept her silence.
Mrs. Hu’s eyes narrowed. “Jiang Meiyue!”
My eldest sister used to have bad eyesight. I didn’t expect all of your Hu family to be blind,” Jiang Mingyue chimed in, a smile on her face.
With such a large person rolling around on the ground, you still can’t see who’s rolling around?”
Old Mrs. Hu choked on her words, her mouth opening as she prepared to curse. However, when she met Gu Dongqing’s half-smiling gaze, her words died in her throat.
She swallowed hard and continued, “What do you mean, boss?”
Mrs. Hu’s tone had lost its previous harshness, and Jiang Meiyue finally replied, albeit reluctantly.
Don’t you always dislike me for not being able to give birth to a son for your family and want your son to divorce me?”
Now that you have your wish, I want to divorce Hu Wenguang.”
In the future, you can marry whoever you want as your eldest daughter-in-law.”
After Jiang Meiyue spoke, Mrs. Hu’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Are you serious?”
She showed no sadness about losing a hardworking daughter-in-law. Instead, she seemed more impatient, as if fearing Jiang Meiyue would regret her decision. “Do you really want a divorce? You’re not lying?”
“Mom?” Hu Yun interjected, realizing their mother’s thoughts.
She lowered her voice, whispering in Mrs. Hu’s ear, “Mom, I have no objection if you want to marry my brother to his cousin, but what about the bride price that uncle and the others want?”
You have to give at least two hundred yuan to my uncle’s family, right?
Hu Yun appeared to be thinking about the Hu family’s finances but was more interested in plotting against Jiang Meiyue.
She thought if Jiang Meiyue wanted a divorce, they could demand money from her.
With this money, their family wouldn’t be so financially strapped.
And didn’t that woman, Jiang Mingyue, marry a rich man for the second time?
If he was so wealthy, why couldn’t they take some money from him?
In short, they could get a divorce, but they must compensate the Hu family.
Such shameless words made the Jiang family laugh in anger.
Jiang Meiyue was furious. “Are you really not going to lose face? Do you want me to compensate you?”
Hu Yun was adamant, “Don’t even think about divorce if you don’t give me money.”
Her two brothers, Hu Laoer and Hu Laosan, immediately chimed in, “Yes, don’t even think about divorce if you don’t pay.”
It’s impossible for our old Hu family to let someone leave without giving anything.”
The Hu family, young and old, were like blood-sucking leeches.
It was impossible for them to let someone go without drawing a significant amount of blood.
Jiang Meiyue had always known the Hu family was problematic and not kind, but she never expected them to be so shameless.
After all these years of working together, they still dared to demand compensation from her!
Hu Wenguang!” Jiang Meiyue turned to him, who had been silent.
You said you also want me to compensate you before you’ll agree to the divorce?”
Meiyue, I don’t want a divorce. How about we not divorce…” Hu Wenguang’s expression was troubled.
From his tone, it seemed like he believed Jiang Meiyue would have to pay money for the divorce.
Okay, you Hu Wenguang, I was really blind when I fell in love with such a wolf-hearted person like you.”
Jiang Meiyue was so angry she could hardly speak.
Seeing this, Jiang Mingyue slowly stood up.
