Chapter 25: Lu Jiajia Logs Out
She felt a burning pain in her wrist.
At some point, something had been stuffed into her mouth.
Gradually, strength returned to her body.
Then she drifted off to sleep.
“How is she, Uncle Feng?”
Old Man Feng put down Su Nianzhi’s arm.
“She’s okay now. That century-old ginseng really worked. One slice stabilized her breathing. As long as she rests well, she should be fine.”
Only then did Wang Guifang, Old Su, Su Zhewen, and little Su Maomao—who had been crying uncontrollably after waking up and finding out his aunt was on the brink of death—finally breathe a sigh of relief.
“Auntie doesn’t have to die… wuwuwu…”
Old Su turned gratefully to Qin Xiaoyun. “Xiao Qin, thank you so much for today. Our whole family owes you.”
He was about to kneel.
“Uncle, what are you doing?” Qin Xiaoyun quickly grabbed the old man to stop him. His face was streaked with tears.
“Auntie, we’ll pay you whatever this ginseng cost. If we don’t have enough, we’ll owe it.”
Wang Guifang was grateful, but she understood the value of what he had given—she couldn’t accept it for nothing.
“Auntie, no need to rush,” Qin Xiaoyun replied.
Just then, Su Zhewu came running in from outside.
“Dad, I found some ginseng!”
Wang Guifang looked at the ginseng her son was holding. It was scrawny and pitiful compared to the one Qin Xiaoyun had brought.
“Second son, Xiao Qin already delivered one.”
Su Zhewu looked at the one his mother pointed to and immediately saw it was far superior to his own.
He gave Qin Xiaoyun a curious glance.
And then sincerely said, “Thank you.”
Qin Xiaoyun nodded in response.
“Come outside with me.”
The two of them stepped out one after the other.
“I’ll repay you for the ginseng, but don’t even think about anything else.”
Qin Xiaoyun wore a faint smile.
“And what if I am thinking about it?”
Su Zhewu had never seen someone so shameless—he was clearly eyeing his little sister.
His face turned cold. “You don’t really think you’re some big deal just because of one ginseng, do you?”
Qin Xiaoyun pressed his fingers into his palm and looked at him seriously.
“I can protect her.”
Su Zhewu: ???
“No need for your kindness. Either way, thank you for today.”
Qin Xiaoyun watched Su Zhewu’s retreating back, eyes filled with unwavering resolve.
If he had been hesitant before because of age and other concerns, all that disappeared the moment he heard she might die.
He was determined to protect her, to cherish her—he didn’t want to live with regret.
He glanced at the room, her fragile, doll-like face still vivid in his mind.
Her family was all around her. Qin Xiaoyun gently closed his eyes. The timing wasn’t right yet.
Before she woke up, he needed to clear out all the annoying people.
At the Lu Family Household
The whole family was trembling in fear, too afraid to step outside.
Now it wasn’t just that Lu Jiajia’s scandal had become the village laughingstock—it had escalated to murder.
Lu’s two sisters-in-law glared at Lu Jiajia with undisguised disgust.
“Dad, now that our little sister has brought shame on the whole family, it’s either we split the family up or you give us an explanation.”
Lu Shanyong looked at the many faces in the main hall and took a deep drag from his cigarette.
“Eldest, find someone to marry her off. As far away as possible.”
Lu’s eldest son looked at the dazed and broken Lu Jiajia. He felt bitter disappointment. She had a good marriage lined up, but she ruined it with her affair, then even spread rumors about others.
He snorted and nodded.
He had worried that their mother might oppose it, but now she was even angrier than they were, cursing Jiajia repeatedly—“slut,” “filthy whore.”
Lu Jiajia sat on the ground in a stupor, weak from a recent miscarriage and without proper rest.
She looked pale and sickly.
And for some reason, when she woke up that morning, she discovered her system—was gone.
The blow shattered her.
She had planned to use the system to make Wenliang forgive her.
Now, she had nothing.
When she heard Su Nianzhi was going to die, she couldn’t understand how that had anything to do with her. She had only spread a few rumors, that’s all.
“Second son, lock her up. Don’t let her run off before the marriage.”
Lu Jiajia finally reacted.
She shook her head in panic.
“Marriage? I’m not getting married! Why should I get married? Mom, Mom, save me!”
Lu Mother yanked her hand away in disgust. “You’re a grown girl. Of course you need to marry. What, you think your father and I are going to support you for the rest of your life?”
Tears poured down Lu Jiajia’s cheeks.
“No, no, you can’t do this to me!”
Just as she started throwing a tantrum—
There was a loud bang bang bang at the door.
Eldest sister-in-law opened it, and there stood two stern-faced men in police uniforms.
“Is Lu Jiajia here? We have evidence linking you to Liu Fen’s murder. Please come with us.”
Lu Jiajia froze completely. No way— she hadn’t left any evidence.
“I—I didn’t kill anyone! You’re lying!”
One of the officers frowned. “Whether or not you did, we’ve already investigated. Let’s go.”
Then they stepped forward and cuffed her.
Outside, the gathered villagers began murmuring.
“Didn’t expect it was her who did it.”
“Yeah, you can never tell with people. Who’d have thought the Lu girl was so vicious?”
“She probably snapped after being caught with Er Laizi and killed her out of desperation?”
Lu Jiajia’s face turned ghostly white.
She could clearly see every expression on the villagers’ faces.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
The Zhang family gloated. The village girls who had once envied her engagement to Zhang Wenliang smirked. The old women who had always disliked the Lu family looked like they wanted to laugh out loud.
Even Qin Xiaoyun—who she once looked down on—was watching her with ridicule in his eyes.
Then her eyes finally landed on Zhang Wenliang, who stood silently.
This man she had used every trick to get—was here to watch her fall.
Half the reason she ended up like this was because of him.
Lu Jiajia felt bitter resentment.
Why had she ever fallen for Zhang Wenliang?
Why had she gone after Su Nianzhi?
Everything now felt absurd and meaningless.
She glanced toward the crowd and saw Er Laizi staring at her intensely.
There was a flicker of guilt in his eyes.
Her heart clenched.
Why…?
The farce ended with Lu Jiajia being taken away by the police.
The village chief’s family was still reeling from the shock.
Lu Shanyong was stunned silent.
His position as village chief—was gone.
Lu’s eldest and second daughters-in-law couldn’t bear the accusing looks from the other villagers.
“Dad, let’s split the family.”
Lu Shanyong gasped for breath.
Then collapsed sideways.
“Dad!”
Lu Shanyong had a stroke from the stress.
“Wuwuwu—”
Lu Mother cried bitterly, cursing Lu Jiajia all the while.
And in the eye of the storm, Su Nianzhi slowly opened her groggy eyes.
She felt like she’d just spent forever fighting zombies.
Completely exhausted.
“She’s awake! Little sister’s awake!”
Su Nianzhi stared blankly at Wang Guifang who threw herself onto her, sobbing uncontrollably.
Her face was full of confusion.
Did I transmigrate again from the start?
Why does it feel like the save file just reloaded?
