Chapter 34: Qin Xiaoyun, I Agree to Date You
Su Nianzhi sat across from Dan Junxiong like a boss, meeting his gaze without a hint of fear.
“I know he took your century-old ginseng earlier. Is this money enough?”
As she spoke, she took out a small cloth bag and dumped out rolls of large-denomination bills.
“You gave him a thousand yuan for that ginseng. I think this should cover it.”
Dan Junxiong stared at the young girl across from him—courage and decisiveness, she had both in spades.
“Little girl, I don’t even know your name?”
“Call me ‘Grandaunt.’”
Dan Junxiong’s mouth twitched. “Comrade Su, I’ll take the money. As for Yangcheng, he can do whatever he wants. How’s that sound?”
He was in this line of work for profit, and he couldn’t quite figure out this girl’s background—he wasn’t about to make enemies.
He was just surprised that Su Zhewu’s bedridden, sickly sister turned out to be someone like this.
A little unexpected.
Su Nianzhi glanced at the others in the room.
She directly used her psychic power to control them—none of them were allowed to talk about what happened today.
As she watched those dazed and mind-controlled men standing there blankly…
Dan Junxiong, who originally didn’t want to cause a big scene, suddenly stiffened. He looked at Su Nianzhi’s mysterious smile.
A trace of fear crept into his heart.
He’d always heard rumors of extraordinary people… now his back felt a sudden chill.
Thank god he hadn’t acted rashly earlier.
Looking at the cash on the table, it suddenly felt scorching hot.
This money… he really shouldn’t take it.
——
After leaving Dan Junxiong’s place, Su Nianzhi found a secluded spot and changed outfits inside her space.
Just as she exited the alley, she ran into a familiar face.
Zhang Wenliang—good grief, that guy hadn’t been out for long.
But she didn’t follow him, because she noticed that a man was tailing him not far behind.
So that’s how he got out so easily—someone was using him as bait.
Zhang Wenliang probably hadn’t even realized it yet.
Lu Ang, in disguise, saw a very ugly woman walking toward him, smiling broadly—and he shuddered.
Damn, so ugly and she still smiles?
Could it be because I’m too handsome?
Ever since that woman on the mountain left him for dead, Lu Ang had felt uneasy around women.
He shivered and followed Zhang Wenliang.
His brother said Zhang Wenliang’s teacher had escaped, and tracking him might lead to catching the teacher too.
Su Nianzhi noticed the man’s expression as if he’d seen a ghost—was it her sexy matchmaker’s mole that scared him?
She checked herself in a nearby reflective surface. “Looks sexy to me!”
Since someone was already dealing with Zhang Wenliang, she didn’t plan to interfere—no need to get dragged into the mess.
Happily leaving the city, she pulled out her bicycle and sped off with the wind in her hair.
As she neared home, she stopped by a grove to change outfits again.
Cough, cough, cough—
Looking all weak and delicate, she walked into the village carrying meat in her hands.
Another day of being envied by Aunt Ma at the village entrance.
“Always going to town. Such a wastrel.”
“Aunt Ma, did you finally find a daughter-in-law?”
Ma Lamei turned red with anger. Her eldest son had just been rejected in a matchmaking meeting—the girl’s family said his mom had a big mouth and they were worried he’d be bullied in the future. That stung.
Su Nianzhi’s words hit the sore spot so perfectly that Ma Lamei almost wanted to chase her down for a fight.
No, she told herself. Don’t stoop to the level of a sickly girl.
Su Nianzhi just giggled gleefully.
And strutted off.
As she approached home, she could hear someone was already there.
She stepped into the courtyard and saw a man staring at her with burning intensity.
Su Nianzhi: ……
“Zhizhi, you’re back? Xiao Qin said you asked him to bring those things back for you.”
Su Nianzhi glanced at the table loaded with all kinds of bags and packages.
Her mouth twitched.
Wow, so he’s already learned to do things under her name.
“Right. I asked him to bring them.”
Wang Guifang tugged on Su Maomao. “Help Grandma stoke the fire.”
Su Maomao pouted and was dragged away.
Only the two of them remained in the courtyard.
Su Nianzhi felt a little awkward. “So, you’re back?”
What she was really thinking: Holy crap! Cannon fodder #2 didn’t die!
Could it be her butterfly effect?
Still, she was happy for him.
She gave him a genuine smile.
“Congratulations.”
Qin Xiaoyun froze. Congratulate him… for what?
“Little girl, I’m back. Do you remember what I said last time?”
Su Nianzhi suddenly stiffened.
Crap, she’d forgotten about that.
“Um, let’s talk outside.”
Qin Xiaoyun followed her, and the two of them wandered to a quiet spot.
“Zhizhi.”
Su Nianzhi: Damn, calling me that so sweetly…
But inside, she felt a tiny bit happy.
“Zhizhi.” She was forced to look up at Qin Xiaoyun, meeting eyes filled with affection and tenderness.
“You’re smart—you must already know what I want to say. Zhizhi, listen to me.”
Su Nianzhi nodded slightly.
Two lifetimes, and no one had ever confessed to her—she was actually nervous.
“Zhizhi, I like you.”
Su Nianzhi almost got sucked into his bright black eyes.
“I know this might seem sudden, but Zhizhi, I don’t even know when I started liking you. By the time I realized it, I was already too deep. I want to protect you. I want to make you happy. I swear on my name as a soldier—I’m not lying. I want to be with you.”
Su Nianzhi’s heart thumped wildly. His words weren’t overly sweet, but they carried a powerful sincerity.
She could feel how genuine he was.
Should she say yes?
She didn’t know how the story would unfold, whether either of them—two cannon-fodder characters—would survive to the end.
She looked seriously at the man before her.
“Qin Xiaoyun, I’m poor. My family’s full of… oddballs. You’re basically jumping into a fire pit.”
Qin Xiaoyun replied solemnly, “Love me, love my family. Your family is my family.”
“I’m weak, can’t carry or lift anything.”
“Zhizhi, a wife isn’t for labor.”
“I’m not in good health, can’t bear children. If you’re with me, you’ll have no descendants.”
Qin Xiaoyun looked up at the sky and thought for a moment.
Then looked her in the eye and said seriously—
“Then I’ll raise you like a daughter…”
Su Nianzhi: ????
A glint of laughter sparkled in her clear eyes.
She hadn’t expected that answer from Qin Xiaoyun.
“Seize joy while life is good; don’t let the golden cup face the moon in vain.”
That random verse popped into her mind.
She slowly raised her head and met his eyes.
In that moment, a hint of feminine shyness unknowingly crept onto her face.
Who would’ve thought that a zombie-slaying queen from the apocalypse could look like this?
Qin Xiaoyun was incredibly nervous.
He’d never been this nervous before—not even during life-threatening missions.
“Qin Xiaoyun,” Su Nianzhi said softly, “I agree to date you.”
Her sweet, gentle voice echoed in Qin Xiaoyun’s ears like a trumpet blaring at full volume.
She said yes. She said yes!
