Chapter 12.2 Looking back at him
She had a habit—she never looked back after saying goodbye to anyone. But today, as she reached the entrance of the inpatient building, she instinctively turned to look behind. She saw the Bentley’s red tail lights fading into the distance.
In the second intersection in front of the hospital, the Bentley met Ye Shuo’s car at a red light. The two cars stopped almost side by side. Ye Shuo’s car was in the left turn lane, the window was open, and Min Ting glanced at them but didn’t roll down his window to greet them.
The green light turned on, and the Bentley slowly drove straight through the intersection.
In another car, Ye Sangyu sat back in her seat with her arms crossed, her brow furrowed, and an IV drip in her hand. Her stomach was still aching, and her entire abdomen felt burning.
Ye Shuo unscrewed the thermos, which contained warm water, and handed it to her: “Have some.”
Ye Sangyu shook her head, too uncomfortable to even speak.
Ye Shuo closed the lid with one hand and placed it in the cup holder: “You know you can’t drink, why did you drink so much?”
Ye Sangyu remained silent, her face grim. From last night until now, she hadn’t had a moment of peace. Shi Miao had blocked her, and Ye Xicun and Ye Shuo were eager to prepare a birthday gift for Shi Miao. The frustration in her heart had nowhere to go, so she went to the bar to vent.
She knew she couldn’t hold her liquor, but she didn’t expect it to be this bad.
Now that her brother knew Shi Miao liked him, she wondered if it would affect his mood.
Shi Miao was her nemesis, always had been.
“What kind of taste does Min Ting have?” she scoffed.
The sudden change of topic, Ye Shuo just glanced at her and ignored her.
Ye Sangyu: “How is Shao Sixuan not better than Shi Miao?”
Shao Sixuan’s family background was naturally beyond compare. She was beautiful and sexy, and she was at ease in the world of fame and fortune. She was the same kind of person as Min Ting. Why wouldn’t he choose such a marriage partner, but instead choose a woman like Shi Miao who pretends to be noble?
Ye Shuo: “What’s wrong with Shi Miao? Besides, Shao Sixuan’s personality is like a spoiled princess, most people can’t stand it.”
“Heh.” Ye Sangyu found it funny. “As if Shi Miao’s personality is so good, so gentle.” Her sharp eyes swept over him. “Then why don’t you mention Shao Sixuan’s family? Isn’t it a million times better than Shi Miao’s?”
Ye Shuo was being practical: “If my brother-in-law really cared about the other half’s family background, he would be better off marrying Shao Sixuan than you. Our family is not comparable to Shao Sixuan’s. Didn’t my brother-in-law even consider you? That means…”
Ye Sangyu grabbed the bag next to her and threw it at him: “Ye Shuo, you’re sick! If you want to praise your own sister, go ahead. Why are you putting me down?”
The bag hit Ye Shuo’s shoulder before he could react.
He rubbed it: “Ye Sangyu, what are you doing! I was just giving an example. Aren’t you also putting Shi Miao down?”
Ye Sangyu was furious: “Get out, don’t talk to me!”
Ye Shuo rubbed the spot where he was hit, without even lifting his eyelids: “This is my car, if anyone’s getting out, it’s you.”
Ye Sangyu suddenly felt wronged and called the driver: “Uncle Wen, pull over.”
The driver ignored her and focused on driving.
The car suddenly fell silent.
Ye Shuo thought she had calmed down and took out his phone to play a game.
After a while, the sound of tissues being pulled came from the quiet car.
Ye Shuo glanced at the person beside him and was stunned.
Crying over this? Is it necessary?
When they arrived home, the car had just stopped when Ye Sangyu grabbed her bag and rushed out the door.
Ye Xicun happened to be walking out of the living room and met his sister at the door: “Where did you go tonight? You didn’t even answer your phone.”
Ye Sangyu didn’t say anything, as if she hadn’t seen him, and went straight into the house.
Ye Xicun asked Ye Shuo who was walking over: “What’s going on between you two?”
Ye Shuo: “We had a fight.”
“Why?”
“Shi Miao.”
Ye Xicun originally wanted Ye Shuo to go and coax Ye Sangyu, but when he heard that they were fighting because of Shi Miao, he only said: “Don’t fight so easily in the future, go to bed early.” After saying that, he went to his car. He didn’t usually live here.
When he got to the car, he remembered something and turned back to ask Ye Shuo: “Did you give Shi Miao the birthday present I asked you to give her?”
Ye Shuo: “She didn’t accept it.”
After a long silence, Ye Xicun nodded, opened the car door and got in.
Ye Shuo was annoyed by Ye Sangyu, so he took a can of ice beer from the refrigerator and went to the balcony of his room to drink. Just as he was about to pull the ring, his hand stopped. His brother’s car was still parked in the parking lot downstairs.

Meanwhile, at the hospital.
Shi Miao returned to the ward and first went to the director’s office to thank him for taking her shift. Then she got her pager back. Gu Changshen was concentrating on studying the case, without looking up, he waved his hand: “I’m not going home tonight, I’m staying at the hospital.”
Seeing that Shi Miao didn’t move or speak, she must have been waiting for him to finish looking at the patient’s films. He gave her the order to leave: “What are you still standing there for? Don’t bother me, close the door.”
She asked Gu Changshen for her phone, but he was still looking at the computer and didn’t respond.
He didn’t give her the pager, he was going to take her shift all night.
The director’s personality was such that he always said what he meant. Shi Miao accepted his kindness: “Thank you, director.”
Gu Changshen: “You’re welcome, I’m just helping you out. I only wanted to take your shift for a few hours, but then I thought, if I only took half of your shift, you might be cursing me in your heart.”
Shi Miao: “…”
She smiled, neither arguing nor contradicting: “Director, you’re busy.” She closed the door and went back to her duty room.
After a quick wash, it was not yet ten thirty. This was the earliest she had ever been in bed since she became a resident. The happiest thing was that the pager was with the director, so she didn’t have to worry about being woken up in the middle of the night, and she didn’t have to sleep in her clothes.
Shi Miao leaned against the headboard and opened Min Ting’s chat box, politely asking: “Are you home yet?”
Min Ting: Not yet. Anything?
Shi Miao: Nothing, just asking.
Min Ting: I’ll let you know when I get there.
