In the Name of Love
In the name of Love Chapter 7.2

Chapter 7.2 Waited Six Hours for Her

The next day, before the morning handover, Shi Miao couldn’t escape her colleagues’ persistent questions.

“Come on, spill the beans. Someone saw you last night.”

“How long have you been dating?”

“What does your boyfriend do for a living?”

“How old is he?”

A colleague munching on a bun chimed in, “How tall is he? If he’s short, I can’t approve.”

“It’s not up to you to approve!”

“I’m just looking out for our department head,” the colleague teased.

Everyone laughed and joined in the chatter.

Shi Miao was the only young female doctor in their cardiology department, so her love life was always a hot topic.

“You don’t need to worry about his height. He’s taller than Jiang Yang,” said Dr. Sun, who rarely participated in their gossip but made an exception today.

Jiang Yang stood at 1.84 meters, the tallest in their department.

If he’s taller than Jiang Yang, well, height isn’t a concern anymore.

Dr. Sun had been called back to the hospital last night for an emergency A-type aortic dissection surgery. Having seen Shi Miao’s boyfriend, he was the most credible source.

“Shi Miao has good taste. The surgery ended past one, and her boyfriend waited for her until after that.”

The nurse who had helped Shi Miao find her keys last night had caught a brief glimpse of Min Ting when he left. She agreed with Dr. Sun, “Dr. Shi’s taste is exceptional. Her boyfriend is tall and handsome.”

The bun-eating colleague asked, “How handsome? Handsomer than Jiang Yang?”

The nurse got excited. “Absolutely!”

Jiang Yang, hearing his name for the second time, protested, “…”

He suddenly found the fried dough stick in his hand unappetizing. Why did they have to keep stepping on him while praising Shi Miao’s boyfriend?

He cleared his throat and raised his gaze. “More handsome than me? You must’ve been hallucinating from your night shift.”

The nurse laughed it off, not wanting to offend anyone further.

Only He Wenqian in the office refrained from joining the gossip. He sipped his strong coffee with a knowing smile, keeping Shi Miao’s marriage a secret as if he had no idea.

After finishing his coffee, he remarked, “A lot of people in our hospital are about to have their hearts broken today.”

In other departments, many young doctors had shown interest in Shi Miao. Hearing about her relationship would surely dampen their spirits.

The bun-eating colleague suddenly looked crestfallen. If others were heartbroken, what about his buns?

“Damn! No one’s going to run all the way to get these buns for me anymore!” He stuffed the last soup dumpling into his mouth. “I’m done for. My takeout orders won’t be safe either—they’ll probably steal my food to console themselves.”

He Wenqian quipped, “Serves you right! Who told you to use your ‘best buddy’ status with Shi Miao to scam people into buying you buns?”

With that, the conversation veered off course, and they forgot to keep probing about Shi Miao’s boyfriend.

Just then, Gu Changshen entered the office, and everyone straightened up, their playful smiles disappearing.

After the morning handover and rounds, Shi Miao, who had no surgeries scheduled, stayed in the office to work.

Gu Changshen approached her desk. “Come with me to check on Bed 57.”

“Yes, Director,” Shi Miao replied.

Some VIP patients required special attention, and Bed 57 was one of them.

On their way upstairs, Gu Changshen informed her, “The surgery plan for Bed 57 is finalized, and the family has agreed. It’s scheduled for Friday. You’ll handle the pre-surgery consultation.”

“Understood,” she said.

In the ward, both Shao Siwen and Shao Sixuan were present.

Shi Miao gave Shao Siwen a polite nod before following Gu Changshen to the bedside.

Speaking in a conversational tone, Gu Changshen inquired about the elder Mr. Shao’s condition.

Mr. Shao sighed, “Director Gu, I’ve been thinking, and I’d like to postpone the surgery until after August. I’d prefer to go with conservative treatment for now.”

“Are you worried about the risks of surgery?” Gu Changshen asked empathetically.

Mr. Shao chuckled, “Of course, I’m worried. If I don’t make it through recovery, I might miss my granddaughter’s wedding. We discussed it yesterday, and her fiancé agreed to move the wedding up to early August. I want to see them get married first. That way, no matter what happens, I won’t have regrets.”

At that moment, Gu Changshen’s phone rang. It was Director Jiang.

Director Jiang couldn’t argue with the elder’s wishes. Fortunately, Mr. Shao’s condition wasn’t critical yet, so delaying the surgery by two months was feasible. “Conservative treatment it is. None of his sons can change his mind.”

“Got it,” Gu Changshen replied.

After hanging up, he discussed the conservative treatment plan with Mr. Shao.

Shi Miao stayed focused, diligently taking notes.

When she left the ward, she received a message from her mother.

Zhao Moyin: Xi Cun and Shao Siwen’s wedding has been moved up to August 2 because of her grandfather’s illness. Since he’s in your department, you probably know the details. Min Ting will definitely attend the wedding—will you both go together?
