Infinite Apocalypse: Starting with an Underground Safehouse Chapter 18

Chapter 18: Level Up

The densely packed words left Su Xiao with only one thought after reading them.
Had these sisters been brokers before the apocalypse?

Their sales tactics were too practiced.

To accumulate client resources, one must constantly search the world for suitable survivors.
At the same time, they will sift out those survivors who lack the ability. This was a time-consuming and labor-intensive task for Su Xiao, much like when she had just privately messaged nearly ten survivors. Out of those, nine had simply opened treasure chests, taken the supplies, and left the chests behind.

Su Xiao replied, “Okay, but my friend has a purple treasure chest that needs your help to open. You can use another blueprint as collateral, and after opening it, we’ll exchange the blueprint based on his conditions. As for the handling fee… he can give you a level 1 weapon. He has two red treasure chest eggs on hand.”

Yu Yu: “Wow! That works! With that, I’ll upgrade to a level 2 weapon!”

As expected, the other party already had a weapon station.

Soon, Yu Yu sent over a “sewing machine” blueprint.

Su Xiao temporarily stored it.

But just a few seconds later, Yu Yu replied: “Boring, it’s a duplicate blueprint.”

Yu Yu then initiated a trade, offering the other sewing machine blueprint in exchange for the level 1 weapon as a handling fee.

A sewing machine—it seemed like something used for making clothes.
This thing could be useful.

Normally, if you knew that a friend had a sewing machine, it wouldn’t be a priority, as it would waste resources.
But as the saying goes, “A father has a mother, but it’s better to have your own.”

Su Xiao handed the blueprint to Turtle Hermit, who wanted to exchange the sewing machine blueprint for a small greenhouse.

Su Xiao asked directly, “You want the small greenhouse because you already have plants, right?”

Turtle Hermit: “Hehe, you guessed it. I got a seed, but it’s a special one.”

After saying that, Turtle Hermit showed Su Xiao the seed in the trade window.

[Desert Thorn (Seed)]
Description: Can be planted in a greenhouse to be blood-cultivated. The juvenile form provides thorn protection for the safehouse. The mature form can parasitize the human body for protection. Ranked 86th among apocalyptic plants.

Su Xiao’s eyes widened as she read the information.
Turtle Hermit: “So now you understand why I need the small greenhouse. This thing has a rank and is unique. It’s something you can only acquire on the first day of the apocalypse. What you can get today might not be available tomorrow. This seed is very useful to me. There may even be monsters attacking safehouses later, so it must be cultivated.”

Su Xiao: …
She wanted to reach across and slit the other party’s throat.
Turtle Hermit: “Good brother, if you haven’t gotten any plant seeds, just trade me the greenhouse.”

Su Xiao replied politely, “Wait a few days. If I don’t get any plant seeds, I’ll prioritize trading this blueprint to you.”

After saying that, Su Xiao didn’t hesitate any longer.
She maneuvered the cellar and headed towards the riverbank.

There was a willow tree there, a level 2 apocalypse monster.
Although she didn’t know what would happen if she used an axe on a level 2 apocalypse monster according to the rules, it should be fine as long as she had a level 2 axe and a potion, even if she made a mistake.

The night wind was gentle, and after the hurricane, most people had left their hiding places to search for supplies. So, there were still quite a few survivors using phone lights on the ground, but the ordinary survivors near the river were few and far between.

Su Xiao’s cellar, while convenient for mobility, had the significant drawback of not being able to observe the road conditions.

She moved the cellar to the coordinates and was about to push open the door when a message popped up: [There are other survivors within 50 meters of the exit.]

This message made Su Xiao decisively give up on leaving the cellar.

She turned and moved the cellar a little further, ensuring there were no other survivors within 50 meters of the exit before she turned off the lights and opened the cellar door to step outside.

Almost blending into the night, it would be even harder to detect her presence from fifty meters away.

The man also noticed the strange willow tree after coming here.

As soon as Su Xiao got closer, she heard a scream.

The willow tree was struck by a man’s axe, transforming into a giant black shadow.
“How… how did it get so fast!” the man cried out in pain.

He fought desperately, using his weapon to attack the black shadow.

The night was dark, but the moonlight was bright.

Though Su Xiao was far away and couldn’t make out the details, she could see the red indication on the black shadow—
Level 3 apocalypse monster.

In a short time, it had leveled up to level 3.

It seemed that not only had one survivor fallen for it, or perhaps low-level weapons were unable to solve the riddle?

The man’s cries of pain from being torn apart came to Su Xiao’s ears, and she thought it must be a gruesome scene.

But it was too dark, and the man’s handheld lantern was dropped on the ground, casting a bright light that made the shadow on the ground stretch long.

Su Xiao could clearly see the man struggling with a branch-like black shadow.

After a few seconds, the man reacted and quickly struck the black monster with his axe.

The black monster shrieked in pain and pulled back one of its shadow claws. The man took the chance to escape quickly.

Boom—

The sound of a motorcycle speeding away echoed.

Su Xiao was surprised. Instead of using a safehouse, this man had found a motorcycle?

The black shadow whizzed past Su Xiao, following closely behind.
It even seemed to be attracting hate!

What if it was taken away!?

Su Xiao reacted quickly and threw her level 2 axe hard at the black shadow.

She had to admit, she was surprisingly accurate when throwing things.

Whether it was throwing darts at home or shooting hoops at the toy store, as long as the distance wasn’t too far, she could usually make the shot.

Now that she had power, the axe felt light in her hands. She threw it like a dart at the creature marked as “Level 3 Apocalypse Monster.”

“Roar—”

The black shadow monster let out a pitiful cry, like a dog being beaten, which didn’t fit the image of an apocalypse monster at all.

But it still gritted its teeth and continued chasing forward. Just as Su Xiao thought the creature was about to be carried away, it suddenly stopped, turned, and slowly walked back.

The black shadow blended seamlessly with the darkness. Only the bright moonlight and the rescue lights on the other side of the river allowed Su Xiao to see it walking toward her. She instinctively wanted to turn and retreat back into the cellar.

But she didn’t expect the level 2 apocalypse monster, standing nearly two meters tall, to stride right past her. It only glanced down at her with its eyes before moving its gaze away.

Su Xiao was bewildered.

The apocalypse monster returned to the flowerbed and transformed back into the same willow tree, with the tempting prompt still visible.

Su Xiao pondered.
This apocalypse monster had already reached level 3 by feeding on survivors, and it would definitely trick more survivors.
Although she only had a level 2 weapon, this monster wasn’t unbeatable, just a little trickier to handle with a level 2 weapon.

Nevertheless, in order to prevent resources from becoming scarce in the future, she couldn’t afford to rest tonight. She had to gather more supplies while fewer people were out, and this level 3 apocalypse monster had to be dealt with!
