Su Xiao began her testing.
Being a game developer herself, she had some knowledge about monster mechanics.
For example, the Doomsday Monster that had been chasing the motorcyclist earlier was acting based on an aggro mechanism.
It stopped halfway because the aggro pursuit has a limited range.
Now, she needed to test whether the aggro range was based on the distance between the monster and the player, or between the monster and the treasure chest.
Su Xiao walked forward and stood where the Doomsday Monster had paused and turned back, a straight distance of 100 meters.
The motorcyclist had been about 300 meters away from the monster when it was chasing him.
She could move the entrance of the underground cellar to about 150 meters to test the aggro range. If it was based on the distance between the monster and the treasure chest, she could attack the monster by pulling it and fighting it. If it was based on the distance to the player, she could just sneak into the underground cellar and escape.
After confirming that there were no other players nearby, Su Xiao returned to the cellar, put on the searchlight on her head for a broader field of view that wouldn’t interfere with her movement, and then moved the cellar to the position she had marked earlier before stepping out again.
She picked up an axe and walked up to the willow tree, striking it with a heavy blow.
With a loud crash, the willow tree disappeared, transforming into a massive Doomsday Monster.
Su Xiao immediately turned and ran.
“Roar—”
The Doomsday Monster let out a roar, but Su Xiao didn’t dare to look back, running straight ahead. Only when she reached her marked spot did she turn around. The monster was about ten meters behind her.
Just as it got close and was about to launch an attack, Su Xiao swiftly struck it with an axe before quickly turning around to keep running.
The Doomsday Monster stopped moving. It stood in place, observing Su Xiao, its claws retracting from their ready position.
Su Xiao’s face lit up—so there was a range to the aggro after all.
To be precise, the monster was guarding a treasure chest. When attacked with the correct weapon at the right level, a treasure chest would appear; if the wrong weapon or one lower than the monster’s level was used, a monster would appear instead. Furthermore, the monster couldn’t stray too far from the willow tree.
With this understanding, the next step was clear.
Without hesitation, Su Xiao threw several blows at the monster with her axe!
“Roar!”
The Doomsday Monster, hurt by the attack, turned to chase after her as soon as it saw her within range. Su Xiao quickly retreated.
The monster, which had previously seemed indifferent, now glared at her with intense hostility.
Bound by the rules of the game, it turned back.
If not for the beginner protection phase, where it had to protect survivors, it would have torn apart this human that was tormenting it!
As the Doomsday Monster approached the willow tree’s location, Su Xiao dashed forward to pick up the axe. The monster immediately turned around and roared at her, rushing toward her. Su Xiao grabbed the axe and kept running.
Once she had run out of the monster’s aggro range, she threw the axe at it again.
“Roar, roar, roar!”
This time, the level 3 Doomsday Monster covered its eyes and howled.
Damn human! How dare it inflict such damage to its avatar! It must have completed a challenge and received a reward from the Doomsday God.
Its bright red eyes now had one eye turned black, and the shadowy, corporeal form was beginning to dissipate.
Su Xiao smirked.
Exactly.
Just like humans, the more wounds a creature sustained, the weaker it became, and after enough punishment, it would eventually collapse.
So, Su Xiao continued to lead the monster in circles.
The motorcyclist, who had left earlier, returned after crossing a bridge, only to find the searchlight by the river blinking intermittently.
He had initially gone with a level 2 weapon, never expecting to encounter a level 3 Doomsday Monster. His first instinct was to retreat.
But after a distance, he realized something was off.
No, he couldn’t just leave.
If the other party had found a way to deal with that level 3 monster, wouldn’t that mean he’d missed out on some valuable resources?
The sound of the motorcycle engine reached his ears, and Su Xiao knew she couldn’t delay any longer.
Just as the Doomsday Monster was almost on the verge of collapsing, she made her move. She gripped her axe tightly and entered the aggro range, unleashing a flurry of strikes.
The weight of the axe cut through the air with a whistling sound, as if splitting the wind itself.
“Roar!”
With a final scream, the Doomsday Monster collapsed completely.
Su Xiao didn’t look back, but when the monster fell, its claws stretched out one last time in a futile attempt to reach her.
Next time, it would return!
Once the monster disappeared, a level 3 green treasure chest appeared at the spot where the willow tree had been.
Su Xiao’s eyes lit up.
A level 3 treasure chest! She ran over quickly, hearing the motorbike engine growing louder.
Not hesitating for a moment, Su Xiao collected the green level 3 treasure chest, turned off the searchlight, and began heading back to the cellar. The entrance was only about 150 meters away.
The motorbike was speeding straight toward her, pulling up right in front of the cellar entrance.
The bright headlights dazzled her, illuminating Su Xiao completely.
Su Xiao took a deep breath, forcing herself to remain calm.
The bearded man removed his helmet, unaware that he was blocking the entrance to her cellar.
He guessed that since the other party was heading back, it meant their safehouse wasn’t too far away. His own safehouse couldn’t move, so he had to come out to gather resources.
“Little sister, you’re pretty skilled. A level 2 axe can handle a level 3 Doomsday Monster. Are you youngsters all so good at these games?” The man smiled. “I’m not trying to bully you. I know the level 3 monster must have dropped a green treasure chest. There must be something good inside. How about I trade you something for it?”
Su Xiao: …
As the man spoke, he started to reach for something, planning to show Su Xiao the good items he had obtained.
Suddenly, Su Xiao threw out a toy car.
Before the man could react, the toy car transformed into a red Ferrari sports car.
With its dazzling, flashy appearance, it struck straight into the man’s heart, causing a slight jolt in his chest.
What was this feeling?
It was the feeling of excitement.
In the next moment, the roar of the engine echoed, and the Ferrari sped away, leaving the man behind in a cloud of exhaust.
The man snapped back to reality, clenching his fist in frustration, gritting his teeth.
That girl actually had a supercar safehouse! And it was the limited edition model he liked the most!
Tears of envy welled up at the corners of his mouth.
Thinking of his own safehouse, a comfortable, spacious room with a sofa, air conditioning, a coffee machine, and a large bed… but it couldn’t move.
Su Xiao had only a 4.6 km journey ahead of her.
Her first time driving the supercar was a little overwhelming.
Moreover, this safehouse had a special feature—
If the car speed was below 50 mph, the words “Visible” appeared behind her.
If the speed exceeded 50 mph, the words changed to “Hidden.”
That explained why she had seen the car earlier on the ship when the words suddenly appeared.
It must be said, the view from this car was absolutely incredible—it could see through all ground structures.
And in the dark, the glowing treasure chests stood out like beacons.
After running just 1 km, Su Xiao spotted two treasure chests that hadn’t been claimed yet, along with three piles of uncollected construction debris.
