Interstellar Zoo No. 1 Chapter 95.2

Chapter 95.2

The man said helplessly, “You still get this excited whenever your war beast is mentioned. Same as always.”

General Milo continued, “Speaking of which, you were the one who suggested I place Moonlight in the Bi Ke Zoo. How did you know about it?”

The man was momentarily stunned, then said, “I just happened to remember the news—some unknown consortium bought the entire Bi Ke Forest and launched an ambitious project to build the first interstellar wildlife park. I skimmed the news, saw the environment looked good, so I mentioned it to you.”

General Milo nodded. “It is good. More than good, actually. Especially with that new Director Mu—she’s an outstanding war beast expert. Not just Moonlight—many war beasts have benefited under her care.”

The man sipped his tea. “I know. That person… Yin Lingyun, right? He’s also on Nurha Star. His Ferry Eagle is in Bi Ke Zoo too.”

General Milo hadn’t expected the president to know about Yin Lingyun. “I just saw him earlier. He rarely speaks in the group chat—I knew he was on the 917 front line, but didn’t expect him to be transferred here.”

“Mm. 917 is wrapping up, and this front is more urgent now. Wait… group?” The president paused and looked at Milo.

General Milo responded casually, “Us war beast parents have a group. Teacher Xiang from Bi Ke Zoo often shares updates about the beasts there.”

The president: “…”

Teacher… Xiang?

The man smiled faintly. “Sounds interesting. Are there many people in the group?”

“Not many. Teacher Xiang screens applicants strictly. Not everyone gets in.”

“Let me take a look.”

General Milo hadn’t expected the president to show interest. Was he concerned?

Well, it wasn’t some secretive group. General Milo opened his light brain and shared the group with the president.

As he opened the chat, they saw people chatting inside:

Lieutenant Colonel Song: [Forward this [banana] so all Mutant Beasts trip and fall!]

Commander Duan: [@Lieutenant Colonel Song, forwarded!]

Colonel Val: [@Lieutenant Colonel Song, forwarded!]

Mrs. Fang: [Forward this [apple] for all war beasts to stay safe!]

Lieutenant Hermannn: [@Lieutenant Colonel Song, forwarded! @Mrs. Fang, forwarded!]

Colonel Val: [@Mrs. Fang, forwarded!]

General Wen: “Does forwarding it here even work? Spread it to other groups!”

Commander Duan: [!! General Wen, stop sharing it to the military staff group! You just got unmuted!]

General Wen: “Old Duan, calm down. I already shared it.”

Commander Duan: […]

Lieutenant Hermann: […Saw it. I shared it in the main group too!]

Colonel Val: [Me too!]

Lieutenant Colonel Song: [@Commander Duan, this concerns all of Nurha Star. If General Wen gets muted again, I’ll report it upward.]

Commander Duan: […Fine. I forwarded it too.]

Colonel Val: [Haha, everyone else is forwarding too—over 3,000 shares in a minute! That’s a proper big group!]

General Wen: “By the way, has Old Milo shown up today?”

Mrs. Fang: [Probably busy. My husband’s team is swamped—haven’t been home in days. I read on StarNet that all planetary defenses are at maximum alert. They’re worried other planets might get ambushed while most forces are concentrated on Nurha Star.]

Lieutenant Colonel Song: [Yeah. Mealtime’s the only chance to check the group. No time otherwise.]

Colonel Val: [Forward this [plasma bomb]—let the rebels all blow up!]

Everyone: [Forwarded!!!]

General Milo was just about to raise his hand and forward it too when—

The man beside him spoke up, “Group owner—Xiang Bie?”

General Milo looked at the president, then glanced at the member list on the right. Sure enough, the owner was listed as “Xiang Bie.”

“Yes, that’s our Teacher Xiang,” General Milo said.

The president nodded. “This group has quite the security clearance. Did you set up the permissions?”

“No, Bi Ke Zoo took in a lot of war beasts. Probably belonged to another beast’s owner.”

The president said nothing. He simply stared at the group chat for a while, then memorized the group ID, opened his own light brain, and searched through the backend.

And when he found it—

The president: “…”

General Milo noticed and asked curiously, “Looking it up? Did you find anything? See, it wasn’t me, right? Who was it?”

President: “…”

It’s me…

That brat actually stole one of my groups!

The president rubbed his brow and suddenly felt exhausted.

Everyone believed Xiang Yuanren had been missing for three years. Everyone thought he’d given up searching. Even Chai Yunyue couldn’t understand why he never kept looking.

But what was there to look for?

He’d known where that child was from the very beginning.

It was better this way. Such a young child, having suffered such trauma—why drag him back to fight with wolves and tigers?

He still remembered how devastated Xiang Rou had been when news of his disappearance came. That pain lingered in his heart.

In the end, it was his fault. He shouldn’t have pushed the boy into the spotlight. Since the child chose to leave this whirlpool, let him live a different life. As long as he was alive, that was enough.

But it was hard on Xiang Rou—she’d been watching Bi Ke Zoo’s videos daily, hoping to catch a glimpse of her child. But since Chai Yunyue’s visit to Shenwang Star, not a single shot of the boy had appeared.

He should’ve known. Chai Yunyue hadn’t gone there just for an investigation.

He really did track him to Bi Ke Zoo.

And that visit had alerted that young director, who clearly chose to help conceal Xiang Yuanren—since then, all footage carefully avoided him.

Thinking of this, the man looked again at the group chat.

Stealing his group—was the kid unafraid of being discovered? Or did he know he’d already been exposed?

Probably the latter.

That child had always been clever.

“Did you find anything or not?” General Milo asked again, seeing the president’s silence.

“Yes. It wasn’t you,” he replied, shutting down his light brain. “Alright. Go on, I have other matters to attend to.”

After General Milo left, Chai Yunyue entered to resume his duties as the president’s personal guard.

The president glanced at him, sighed heavily, and shook his head as he walked into the inner chamber.

Chai Yunyue: “?”

Why the glare? What had he done now?

In the afternoon, the war beasts resumed their reconnaissance.

Everyone in the monitoring room was on edge.

Around 3 p.m., someone knocked on the door again.

Mu Ling was still glued to the monitors.

On screen, Lingren was pursuing a heavily infected mutant fox. The fox was more than twice Lingren’s size. Finally, Lingren cornered it against a wall.

As fellow foxes, the mutant turned and roared ferociously at Lingren!

Lingren’s partner was rushing over but hadn’t arrived yet.

Mu Ling’s heart clenched, terrified something might happen to Lingren.

Then the mutant fox lunged, aiming to tear into Lingren’s throat.

Lingren wore armor and a neck guard. Gone was the once-delicate beauty—the flower mark between his brows was fire-red, and his violet beast eyes shone with piercing clarity.

Just as the mutant lunged, Lingren’s eyes sharpened. His fangs struck first, sinking deep into the enemy’s throat.

Before it could fight back, he swung his head violently, flinging the fox against the wall. While it lay dazed and disoriented, he pounced again. No shriek, no roar. Just one clean, decisive bite—straight through its windpipe.

The high level infected fox, oozing pus from half its body, died right there. Its eyes remained wide open, as if it never understood what had happened.

At last, Lingren’s partner arrived.

“Lingren, back off!”

The white fox calmly retreated. His partner stepped forward, stunned to find the mutant fox already dead. He stared at the blood-covered white fox behind him.

After a moment’s pause, he took out a basin, filled it with water, and let the white fox rinse her mouth.

The blood washed away as he drank. After rinsing, Lingren pawed at his muzzle, then turned to walk away.

That graceful silhouette, that steady stride—it all screamed one word: badass.

Mu Ling: “…”

Only now did her heart settle back in her chest.

She snapped back to reality—hadn’t someone knocked earlier?

Turning to look, she instantly met a familiar old face.

Old Mr. Kenny was chatting with another old gentleman. “Principal Guo, you’re here too.”

Principal Guo smiled. “Of course. You know our Cui Cui is the best scout.”

Mu Ling stiffly turned her neck to look back at the wall of monitors.

Sure enough, beneath Lingren’s camera feed, another window had lit up.

Inside, a green parrot perched on her temporary partner’s hand. The famously chatty parrot was making introductions: “Hello, Celia!”

The partner, clearly aware of the legendary scout Cui Cui, smiled warmly. “Hello, Cui Cui.”

The green parrot wasted no time. It circled once in the air before flying off.

In less than three minutes, the team discovered a deeply hidden nest of mutant weasels.

Old Mr. Kenny praised from the side, “Cui Cui’s nose hasn’t dulled at all. I wonder if she still remembers me.”

Principal Guo chuckled. “She probably does.”

Just then, he noticed Mu Ling sneaking glances at him.

“Director Mu, we meet again,” he greeted warmly.

Mu Ling swallowed hard and laughed awkwardly. “Y-yes, we do.”

Principal Guo said enthusiastically, “I heard we can visit the war beasts during breaks. Want to come see Cui Cui later? She should still remember you.”

Mu Ling: “…”

“S-sure…”

Sweating profusely, she turned to Brother Xiang and whispered so only he could hear, “Maybe you should just grab a starship and run now? That’s Cui Cui—we’re no match for her!”

Xiang Bie: “…!”
