Into the ’70s Book: Pregnant After Divorcing My Soldier Husband Chapter 14

Chapter 14

Wei Yanzhen, Qin Ping, and Wei Xiaotian were busy carrying things and tidying up in the main hall, while Wei Jinyue eagerly pulled Deng Zhilang into the bedroom, her face full of anticipation.

“Sister-in-law, my brother said you bought me something nice—what is it? Quick, show me!”

It had been almost a week since they left Guangdong Province. During this time, Wei Jinyue no longer had pretty clothes to wear, good food to eat, or anything fun to play with.

The little girl was visibly tanner from being in the sun and looked eagerly at Deng Zhilang, her expression utterly adorable. Deng Zhilang couldn’t bear to disappoint her.

“Here it is!”

Deng Zhilang pulled out a round jar and handed it to Wei Jinyue.

Wei Jinyue looked closely and seemed a bit disappointed.

“Sister-in-law, what’s so special about snow cream?”

Her little mouth immediately puckered up like a bottle of vinegar had been spilled.

“Jinyue, don’t be so quick to judge. The snow cream I got for you is the best—you’ll see once you try it.”

Deng Zhilang spoke confidently.

She had specially bought the cream and, while on the way home, secretly mixed it with the spiritual spring water from her space.

The girl’s face had turned red and even cracked from working under the sun these past two days. Deng had gone to the supply store specifically to buy this cream for Qin Ping and Wei Jinyue.

“Go ahead, try it. It’s super moisturizing, and you won’t have to worry about sunburn after working in the fields anymore.”

Wei Jinyue hesitantly opened the jar, scooped out a bit, and gently applied it to her face.

The moment she spread it on, she felt a cool, soothing sensation. Her previously dry and tight skin instantly became soft and hydrated—it was like a parched land receiving a life-saving rain.

She couldn’t help but apply more, gently massaging her cheeks. Even the redness on her face started to fade.

“Sister-in-law, this snow cream is amazing!”

Wei Jinyue exclaimed in surprise, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

She also applied some on her hands, and her previously rough skin became smooth and delicate.

“Sister-in-law, I want to use this every day!”

The girl was thrilled, hugging the jar and even giving it a kiss.

Just then, Qin Ping walked in after hearing the commotion. Seeing her daughter’s happy expression, she smiled and asked, “Why so happy?”

Wei Jinyue immediately pulled her over. “Mom, try the snow cream Sister-in-law bought. It’s so good!”

Qin Ping tried some too and was just as amazed by its magical effect.

“Xiaolan, what a great product you bought.”

Qin Ping praised.

Deng Zhilang smiled. “As long as you like it. I’ll buy more in the future.”

The day passed, and early the next morning, sunlight spilled into the Wei family courtyard.

The Wei family, as usual, got up early to start their day’s work.

After finishing the inventory at the warehouse, Deng Zhilang returned home. Seeing the house empty, she quickly sprang into action.

She retrieved the small amount of vegetables and meat she had purchased the day before from a corner of the kitchen.

Then, like magic, she swapped them out with the abundant food she had stored in her space.

Looking at the well-stocked kitchen, Deng Zhilang felt very pleased.

Now, the household had enough supplies and wouldn’t have to worry about running out of meat or grains for a while.

With that in mind, Deng decided to cook a hearty meal herself.

She carefully selected a piece of the juiciest pork belly to make red-braised pork. Then she prepared silky steamed egg custard, stir-fried baby bok choy, and pan-fried tofu.

Soon, the aroma of the dishes filled the entire house. The red-braised pork was glistening and tender, not greasy at all. The steamed eggs were smooth like jelly. The bok choy was bright green and crisp, and the tofu golden and crispy on the outside, soft inside.

In the neighboring courtyard, little Luo Xiaojun was playing with mud when he suddenly caught a whiff of the rich meat aroma—it made his mouth water.

He instantly dropped his mud and climbed up the courtyard wall.

Pretty Auntie was cooking meat—he wanted some too!

But his grandma was so stingy. Meals were always plain and watery. He only got to eat meat during holidays.

Deng Zhilang walked out of the kitchen and saw a small head poking over the wall.

She was startled at first, then realized it was Luo Yisen’s youngest son!

“Do you want some meat?”

The little guy nodded vigorously like a pounding garlic pestle.

So Deng Zhilang called him over. She thought he’d take the long way around, but instead, he climbed straight over the wall.

She couldn’t help but laugh and shook her head.

Luo Xiaojun quickly came to her.

“Go wash your hands first. You can eat after that.”

His eyes lit up immediately. He ran to the well, washed his little hands, and even splashed water on his face.

When he returned, he looked bright-eyed and clean, a clever and adorable little boy.

“But before you eat meat, you have to promise me one thing.”

Luo Xiaojun quickly nodded. “Auntie, go ahead.”

“Keep an eye on your family’s Comrade Song. If she does anything suspicious or bad, come and tell me secretly.”

Luo Xiaojun thought to himself—oh, so she wants me to spy on the woman living in our woodshed. That’s easy.

“Okay, Auntie! I’ll watch her closely!”

Then Deng Zhilang brought out a newly purchased bowl, washed it, and picked out a few pieces of red-braised pork for him. The little guy obediently ate them.

However, just then, a commotion started outside. Song Yitao’s voice rang out, mixed with that of Wei Jinyue.

“You’re the one who’s black! Your whole family is black! Wei Jinyue, you’re the darkest, you ugly freak!”

“Song Yitao! I’ve had enough of you!!”

The two of them were already fighting before they’d even finished arguing. Wei Jinyue, unable to keep her mouth shut, yelled, “Don’t think I don’t know—you’ve been stirring things up behind my sister-in-law’s back, trying to get her to divorce my brother!”

“Song Yitao, you’re a terrible person—full of dirty tricks!”

The girls who had been working in the fields with Wei Jinyue were all standing nearby. Hearing this, they exchanged surprised looks.

Then, they all turned and stared at Song Yitao with disdain.

This female comrade was truly awful—trying to sow discord between a couple behind their backs!

Song Yitao, fuming, felt the hostile stares from the women around her and was extremely uncomfortable.

“Wei Jinyue, do you want me to rip your mouth off?!”

Just as she reached out to grab her, a hand shot out from the side and grabbed her wrist tightly.

It was Wei Yanzhen. His face stern, he scolded, “What are you two doing?!”

Seeing her brother, Wei Jinyue immediately found her courage and loudly complained, “Brother! She called me ugly and said the snow cream Sister-in-law bought was poisoned!”

Song Yitao stomped her foot and shouted, “Wei Jinyue, stop slandering me! When did I ever say such a thing?!”

“Oh, so you didn’t say it?”

“Then why did you follow me home when I went to get the cream Sister-in-law gave me?”

Wei Yanzhen took a deep breath and shouted again, “Enough! Both of you, shut your mouths! What kind of behavior is this?!”
