Chapter 6: Who Are You to Be Angry?
There was a sly glint in her eyes.
Lin Wei stood at the door, listening to the mournful cries from inside, sighed, and apologized for her daughter, “Ruanyuan, about what happened today… it’s Yuanyuan’s fault. I’ll scold her later. Don’t be too upset.”
Xia Ruanyuan choked, “Mom, don’t blame Yuanyuan. It’s my fault. I did bad things first. Really, it’s not Yuanyuan’s fault, ugh…”
Lin Wei sighed again, “… I’ll go scold Yuanyuan. Don’t be upset.”
After saying this, Lin Wei turned and went downstairs.
Xia Ruanyuan in the room continued to sob, but there was a smile on her lips.
Hehehe, little sister-in-law, accept the just punishment!
Downstairs, Huo Yuanyuan —
Lin Wei sat on the sofa with an angry face and said nothing. Huo Yuanyuan dared not breathe, inching closer, “… Mom.”
“Don’t call me Mom.”
Huo Yuanyuan had originally wanted to sit near the edge of the sofa but immediately stood up, hands clasped in front of her, standing carefully and pitifully.
Lin Wei glanced at her, still angry, “Is this how I taught you?”
“Did I teach you to be so mean and unreasonable?”
Huo Yuanyuan looked pitiful, “Mom, I didn’t, it’s all Xia Ruanyuan’s fault…”
Huo Yuanyuan pointed upstairs in a pitiable manner.
Lin Wei immediately shot her a glare, and Huo Yuanyuan quickly withdrew her hand. “I was just angry…”
Xia Ruanyuan, upstairs, had cracked the door open a little and was eavesdropping on the conversation below.
When Lin Wei heard Huo Yuanyuan say she was angry, she immediately scolded her, “You’re angry? What are you angry about? Who do you think you are to be angry?”
Huo Yuanyuan felt wronged, “It’s the truth. How could she deserve my brother?”
Lin Wei diverted her gaze, not responding to that topic, instead saying, “Let’s get one thing straight. No matter what, she’s still your sister-in-law. She’s hurt, and you didn’t show a single bit of concern. And yet you say it’s retribution…”
Lin Wei was so angry she couldn’t say anything else.
“Go out and see who could say something so cruel?”
“Where’s your upbringing?”
When questioned about her manners by her own mother, Huo Yuanyuan’s eyes turned red, and she began to cry. “I was just standing up for my brother. I’m just upset for my brother.”
“If it weren’t for her, my brother could’ve married another female doctor.”
“Now look, he married a country girl. Who knows how people are laughing behind his back!”
When Huo Yuanyuan said this, Lin Wei seemed to have thought of something, and for a moment, didn’t speak.
Huo Yuanyuan continued wiping her tears, “I think what she said earlier was right. She should divorce my brother, and quickly.”
“Even after the divorce, she’s the one who owes my brother.”
“If it weren’t for her, my brother wouldn’t have a past marriage.”
Xia Ruanyuan, listening through the door, smiled at her little sister-in-law’s angry words.
This is great. With this little sister-in-law around, no one will suspect the divorce.
Lin Wei sat on the sofa, her hand tightly clutching the cushion next to her, not speaking for a long time.
Chen Sao came over and advised Huo Yuanyuan, “Yuanyuan, your mom’s still sick, don’t argue with her.”
Huo Yuanyuan, seeing Lin Wei’s face growing paler, cried harder. “Mom, I’m sorry. What I said wasn’t aimed at you. I was just standing up for my brother…”
Lin Wei raised her hand. “Go upstairs first, let me sit here quietly for a while.”
Huo Yuanyuan looked at Lin Wei, and Chen Sao tugged at her arm, signaling her to go upstairs.
Huo Yuanyuan wiped her tears and went upstairs, while Xia Ruanyuan quickly closed the door again.
Chen Sao went upstairs to bring Lin Wei a blanket, then left Lin Wei alone on the sofa while she went back to the kitchen.
Before long, it got darker, and Xia Ruanyuan remembered the bedding drying downstairs, thinking it might be time to go outside and bring it in.
If she were to go out and collect the bedding, what expression should she wear now? Sad? Aggrieved, unable to control herself?
Before Xia Ruanyuan could perfect her expression, there was a knock on the door from the outside.
The sound of “thud thud” rang out as Xia Ruannuan switched to a nasal tone after crying and asked, “Who is it?”
Chen Sao’s voice came from outside, “It’s me, Chen Sao. I brought in the bedding you had drying outside since it’s getting dark.”
Hearing this, Xia Ruannuan got up, rubbed her eyes to make them red, and then went to open the door with a tearful look in her eyes. She weakly said, “Chen Sao.”
Chen Sao handed her the bedding and tried to comfort her, “Don’t be too upset. Just now, Weiwei already scolded Yuanyuan.”
Xia Ruannuan feigned a brave face, saying, “I’m not upset.”
She then kindly asked, “Chen Sao, have you finished in the kitchen? Should I help you?”
As she said this, she pretended to put the bedding down to go downstairs to help.
Chen Sao quickly stopped her, “It’s fine, the dinner is ready, so you should come down soon.”
Xia Ruannuan obediently nodded.
Before Chen Sao could go downstairs, Director Ho had already entered the door.
When Director Huo saw Lin Wei, wrapped in a light blanket and sitting on the sofa, he was surprised and smiled, “You’re downstairs. How are you feeling?”
“If you’re still not feeling well, you don’t need to force yourself.”
His words were full of care, but they didn’t earn a warm response from Lin Wei.
Lin Wei coldly glanced at him, snorted lightly, and then turned her gaze away.
Director Huo stood there, speechless, feeling confused. He had left earlier in a fine mood, but now it seemed as though he had done something wrong.
Just then, Chen Sao came downstairs. Director Huo turned to her, silently asking with his eyes. She quickly and briefly explained what had happened earlier.
Now Director Huo understood; his wife was taking her anger out on him.
Though he didn’t blame her, he did glance upstairs, thinking that he would scold his daughter when she came down.
As Director Huo processed the situation, Huo Beiqing had parked his car and come inside.
Seeing his son, Lin Wei’s cold demeanor softened a little. “You’re back.”
Since Huo Beiqing had registered his marriage with Xia Ruannuan, he hadn’t been home, and Lin Wei had been worried. Now that he was back, she felt some relief.
Huo Beiqing nodded slightly, his expression carrying a hint of apology. “There wasn’t much going on at the hospital today, so I came back.”
He then asked about his mother’s health, “How’s your health?”
Since he had gotten married, he hadn’t been back home, and it wasn’t that he hadn’t felt guilty about it, especially since his mother had been upset over the whole situation.
Lin Wei shook her head and smiled faintly. “It’s fine, since you’re back, let’s eat.”
She called out to Chen Sao.
Hearing the car outside, Xia Ruannuan peeked out from the balcony.
When she saw that it was Huo Beiqing, her smile dropped slightly. This wasn’t ideal for her plans!
She wanted to divorce Huo Beiqing, and with him not coming home today, it would have been easier to play her role. After all, nothing is more heart-wrenching than a broken heart.
But now…
Well, she would just have to adapt as things unfolded!
She wiped away her tears and composed herself before heading downstairs, appearing a bit hesitant as she walked down.
