Chapter 11: A Stolen Kiss

The next day, six in the morning.

Lu Beixun looked at the sleeping figure in the bed. “Cen Wan, wake up.”

“…”

“It’s time to get up.”

“…”

The person in the bed didn’t move, not even a flicker of response.  If it weren’t for her saying last night that if he couldn’t wake her up, he should keep trying, he would have left already.

She knew herself well when it came to staying in bed.

“Wake up!” Lu Beixun’s voice was a little louder.

The person in the bed stirred, turned over, and continued to sleep, muttering, “Don’t bother me, let me sleep a little longer…”

Lu Beixun: “?”

Six twenty.  Lu Beixun had completely lost his patience.  He threw back the covers and lifted her out of bed like a chick.  “Cen Wan, if you don’t get up now, I’m leaving!”

“Where are you going?” Cen Wan mumbled, half-asleep.  “To work?”

Lu Beixun: “…”

“To the gym!”

“Oh, okay, go ahead then.”  As soon as she said that, Cen Wan suddenly opened her eyes, instantly alert.  This was an opportunity she almost missed.

“Give me five minutes.”

Five minutes later, she was standing in front of Lu Beixun, wearing black athletic wear and a neat high ponytail.  She smiled.  “I’m ready.”

The gym on the third floor.

A few minutes later, Cen Wan turned off the treadmill and stepped off, sitting on the floor, gasping for breath.  She waved to Lu Beixun.  “I can’t go on.  I’m going to die.”

Lu Beixun looked at her like she was a weakling.

Cen Wan felt like she was being looked down upon.  She pouted.  “Don’t look at me like that.”

Lu Beixun didn’t look at her again.  When she had rested enough, Cen Wan got back up.  She couldn’t let him look down on her.  She got back on the treadmill and gradually increased the speed.

She was determined to prove him wrong, but half an hour later, she proved him right in the worst way possible.

Her head was spinning, her vision was blurry, she felt nauseous, and she wanted to vomit.

Lu Beixun carried her downstairs, and then the family doctor appeared.

The family doctor examined her and shook his head.  Anyone who didn’t know better would think she had a terminal illness.

The family doctor said, “Mr. Lu, Madam is fine.  She lacks exercise and is too weak.  It’s normal to experience this after excessive exercise.  For her health, she needs to exercise more.  A strong body is less prone to illness.”

Cen Wan: “…”

Thank you!

The family doctor continued, “The dizziness will gradually subside after two hours at the earliest, or a day at the latest.”

Cen Wan: “…”

Please, just go already!

This was so embarrassing.  It turns out that sometimes, you really shouldn’t try to prove yourself too quickly.

After the family doctor left, Lu Beixun sat on the single-person sofa chair by the bed, looking at her with a meaningful gaze.

Cen Wan: “?”

“Do I have something on my face?”

“No.”  Lu Beixun got up, opened the closet, grabbed some clothes, and went into the bathroom.

Cen Wan: “…”

She shouted towards the bathroom door, “Lu Beixun, what do you mean?  Are you looking down on me?”

The sound of the shower running was her only response.

Fifteen minutes later, he came out of the bathroom.  He was wearing a black, minimalist, short-sleeved T-shirt and black casual pants.  He had shed his sharpness, replaced by a touch of laziness.

Cen Wan stared at him.  What a walking clothes rack!  I liked him better in casual clothes than in a suit.  He seemed more approachable.

After staring for a while, Cen Wan finally noticed the key point.  He wasn’t wearing a suit, which meant he wasn’t going out today.  Could I assume that he would be home with me today?

Cen Wan was sweating profusely and sticky.  She couldn’t stand it anymore.  She endured her dizziness and went into the bathroom for a quick shower.

During that time, Lu Beixun stayed outside, paying attention to the sounds from the bathroom.

After showering, she went straight back to bed.  Lu Beixun brought her breakfast.  Her head was still pounding, so she only took a few sips of porridge.

Lu Beixun picked up the bowl of porridge on the bedside table and scooped a spoonful, bringing it to her lips.  “Have some more.”

Cen Wan resisted the urge to scream.  She took a bite from his hand and drank the porridge.

This was the first time he had fed her something since she was reborn.

Did he still love her, care about her?

Right?  Right?  Hahaha…

If Lu Beixun had mind-reading abilities, he would have heard a burst of laughter from someone.

She had no appetite, but under Lu Beixun’s attentive care, she finished the porridge.

Lu Beixun picked up the bowl and left the bedroom.  She was alone in the room.  Cen Wan remembered her dream last night.  She vaguely remembered Lu Beixun softly comforting her.

After a while, Lu Beixun came back upstairs, holding a glass of warm water.  He placed it in her hand.  “Drink some water.”

Cen Wan took it and hesitated for a moment before asking, “Last night…”

He knew what she wanted to ask.  “You had a nightmare last night.”

So, Lu Beixun comforting her and telling her not to be afraid was real, not a dream.

Cen Wan secretly rejoiced.  She didn’t know that she had also talked in her sleep.

After her moment of joy, Cen Wan sighed silently.  “This morning, wasn’t I so embarrassing?”

She thought that after what happened, Lu Beixun would comfort her a little, but he didn’t hesitate to give her a blow.

“Yes, embarrassing.”  Lu Beixun’s tone was flat, but it was a fatal blow.

Cen Wan almost fainted on the spot and had to be rushed to the emergency room, where she was treated for three days and three nights.

“Don’t wake me up tomorrow,” Cen Wan said with a look of despair.  “My body isn’t cut out for exercise.  I’m only good at lying flat.”

Lu Beixun was silent.  His dark eyes held a hint of amusement.

Speaking of which, although she didn’t have any athletic talent, she was lucky that she didn’t gain weight even without exercising.  She didn’t have an ounce of fat on her body.  That was probably the only thing she could be grateful for.

After lunch, her dizziness and blurry vision were gone.  She was afraid that if Lu Beixun knew she was fine, he wouldn’t stay home with her, so she decided to keep pretending.

She was treating Lu Beixun like a fool, but she was the real fool.

Knowing she was faking it, Lu Beixun didn’t expose her.  He spent the afternoon watching TV with her at home.

Cen Wan curled up on the sofa, hugging a pillow.  The TV was playing a romantic drama.  The scene was about to get steamy, with the male and female leads about to kiss.

She looked at Lu Beixun, who was pretending to be asleep next to her.  Her gaze fell on his thin lips, and her heart fluttered.

Cen Wan leaned over, closing her eyes, and moved closer to his lips.  She was just an inch away, just an inch, when the phone on the coffee table rang.

She cursed under her breath.  She opened her eyes and met Lu Beixun’s deep, cold gaze.  The air instantly froze, and the atmosphere became awkward.

Lu Beixun said, “What are you doing?”

Cen Wan: “…”

She pretended to be calm and looked at his eyelashes.  She said casually, “Your eyelashes are so long.”

After saying that, Cen Wan immediately sat up straight, not daring to look at him again.  She would definitely be exposed if she did.

She picked up the phone on the coffee table and hung up without checking who was calling.

Who knew that the male and female leads on TV would go from kissing outside the door to kissing inside the house.  Cen Wan was so embarrassed that she wanted to disappear.  Their lips parted, and just as she breathed a sigh of relief, thinking it was over, the male and female leads kissed again, and they rolled onto the bed.

I wish I hadn’t hung up the phone in a fit of pique.  Maybe I could have avoided this awkwardness.

She secretly glanced at Lu Beixun.  He was watching too…

The person on the other end of the phone seemed to hear her thoughts.  The phone rang again.

Cen Wan mentally thanked them.
