Chapter 20: Do You Dislike Me?

Cen Wan thought Lu Beixun didn’t know the soup was spiked, but he knew everything.

She couldn’t help but worry about Lu Beixun’s health.  He drank so much soup, she wondered if his stomach could handle it.

After dinner, she and Lu Beixun went back to their room.  As they were leaving, Lu Mu and Lu Fu exchanged a glance, their eyes flashing with a sense of accomplishment.

Their bedroom was on the third floor.  The entire floor was their domain.

Cen Wan started to feel a little uncomfortable.  Her body was hot.  She knew it was the effect of the spiked soup.

At first, she didn’t feel too bad.  She was just a little hot.  She didn’t pay much attention.  Lu Beixun told her to drink more water to help her metabolism.  Half an hour later, her body became even hotter.  She was burning up.

She hadn’t drunk much of the soup, but Lu Beixun had drunk a lot.  Her gaze fell on him.  He was trying his best to endure it.  Cen Wan walked over and reached out to touch his forehead to see if he was feverish.  He grabbed her wrist and said in a hoarse voice, “Don’t touch me.”

She felt rejected.  Cen Wan felt a little wronged.  Only Lu Beixun knew that he wasn’t rejecting her.  He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself.

Lu Beixun released her wrist.  He endured the raging fire within him and said patiently, “Be good.  Go drink some more water.”

Cen Wan wasn’t as uncomfortable as Lu Beixun, but she wasn’t feeling good either.  She was very uncomfortable.  “I can’t drink anymore.  I feel so bad…”

He got up and rubbed her head.  He went into the bathroom and filled the bathtub with warm water.  He brought her in.  “You’ll feel better after soaking for a while.”

She had already drunk a lot of water.  Soaking in the warm water for a while should help.  She shouldn’t feel so uncomfortable anymore.

Cen Wan looked at the bathtub filled with water.  She furrowed her brow.  After a few seconds, her gaze returned to Lu Beixun’s face.  She gathered her courage and threw herself into his arms.  “Lu Beixun, why?  Why would you rather be uncomfortable than touch me?”

Her voice was choked with tears because she was uncomfortable.  “Do you dislike me?”

Their bodies were pressed together.  For Lu Beixun, it was like adding fuel to the fire.  He closed his eyes.  When he opened them again, his dark eyes had regained a bit of clarity.

He pulled away her hand that was tightly wrapped around his waist and stroked her head.  “I don’t dislike you.”

“Then why…”

Cen Wan hadn’t finished her sentence when Lu Beixun interrupted her.  “I’m afraid you’ll regret it.”

She was stunned by his words.  While she was still dazed, Lu Beixun picked her up and carried her to the bathtub.  The water, which wasn’t too cold, submerged her body.

By the time she reacted, the bathroom door had closed and Lu Beixun had left the bathroom.

She sighed deeply.  The heat in her body had subsided a bit.  Soaking in the water felt much better.  Compared to her, Lu Beixun wasn’t doing so well.

Lu Beixun went to the guest bedroom next door.  The cold water from the shower head couldn’t suppress the heat in his body.  His eyes were red.  His brow furrowed as he tried his best to endure it.

His body finally felt a little better.  He turned off the shower, wrapped himself in a bathrobe, and went back to the bedroom.  He couldn’t help but worry about the person soaking in the bathtub.

After Cen Wan’s body felt a little better, she felt sleepy.  She leaned against the bathtub and fell asleep.  When Lu Beixun called her from outside the bathroom door, her body was sliding down.

He called her twice, but she didn’t respond.  Lu Beixun directly opened the bathroom door and went in.  The scene in front of him made him furrow his brow.  He quickly walked over, grabbed a towel, and draped it over her.  He pulled her out of the water.

If he had been a moment later, the water would have drowned her.

He lowered his head and bit her lips lightly, as if punishing her.  “You’re so troublesome.”

He placed her on the bed.  He tried his best to endure it as he wiped the water off her body, changed her into dry pajamas, and finally dried her hair.

Only Lu Beixun knew how agonizing this process was.  The fire that had been barely suppressed in his body was rekindled.  The person on the bed was sleeping soundly.

After he took care of her, Lu Beixun went straight into the bathroom.  He didn’t come out until the early morning.

He stood by the bed, looking down at the person sleeping soundly.  His gaze softened.  “You little rascal.”

He threw back the covers and lay down next to her.  He felt the familiar scent of her.  Cen Wan shifted closer to him.  Lu Beixun’s lips curved up.  He wrapped his arms around her.

The next morning, she looked at the person next to her.  Cen Wan was speechless.  Last night, what kind of opportunity had she missed?

Her mother-in-law had practically delivered the person to her mouth, but she hadn’t eaten it.  She couldn’t believe she had fallen asleep in the bathtub.  Such a good opportunity, wasted.

She sighed, feeling hopeless.  The person next to her woke up.  His voice was hoarse from sleep.  “What’s wrong?”

Cen Wan lay flat and looked at the ceiling.  “Nothing much.  It’s just that the meat was delivered to my mouth, and I didn’t eat it.  It’s a little regrettable.”

She spoke with a hidden meaning.  Lu Beixun understood.

A faint smile appeared in Lu Beixun’s eyes.  “Then eat more meat tonight.”

Cen Wan’s eyes lit up.  She thought Lu Beixun had finally come to his senses and wanted to do the deed.  But at night, she realized what Lu Beixun meant by “eat more meat.”

In the evening, the two families went to the restaurant Lu Mu had booked.  During dinner, Lu Beixun kept serving her meat, all her favorite kinds.

At that moment, she finally understood what Lu Beixun meant by his words that morning.

She glared at him resentfully.  But both sets of parents thought they were flirting.  During the entire dinner, both sets of parents kept praising the other family’s child.

Cen Mu was happy for her daughter.  She had such a good mother-in-law.  She had been worried about their mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship before, but now it seemed she had been worrying for nothing.  There was no mother-in-law/daughter-in-law conflict.

Cen Fu and Cen Mu had originally thought that the business marriage would ruin their precious daughter’s happiness.  But they had been wrong.  After the marriage, both Lu Beixun and Lu Fu and Lu Mu were very good to their precious daughter.

After dinner, the two families said goodbye.  She and Lu Beixun went back to the Lu family’s old house.

When they got home, they greeted Lu Fu and Lu Mu and went upstairs.  It was still early.  Cen Wan took a shower and lay in bed playing on her phone.  Lu Beixun went to his study to take care of some work.

An hour later, Lu Beixun finished his work and returned to the bedroom.  The bedroom door was knocked.

Lu Beixun opened the door.  Wang Ma, the Lu family’s maid, was standing at the door, holding a bowl of brown soup.

Lu Beixun looked at the soup in the bowl and furrowed his brow slightly.  Wang Ma said, “The Madam made some medicinal soup.  I’m here to deliver it.”

Lu Beixun took it.  His brow was cold and distant.  He was about to close the door when Wang Ma said, “The Madam said she wants to see you drink it with her own eyes.”

Lu Beixun: “…”

Cen Wan walked over.  She knew what this medicinal soup was.  It was even stronger than the soup from last night.  She knew Lu Beixun didn’t want to touch her, so it didn’t matter if he drank the soup or not.

She held her stomach and furrowed her brow.  “Husband, help me make a cup of brown sugar water.”

As women, Wang Ma knew what was going on.  She didn’t say anything more.  She went downstairs and made a cup of brown sugar water and brought it up.  Cen Wan thanked her and closed the door.

Lu Beixun didn’t drink the medicinal soup either.
