Chapter 22: Wait Until You’ve Cried Enough Before Coming Home

The next afternoon, Cen Wan and Lu Beixun went to the airport to see off Lu’s parents.

Cen Wan held onto Lu’s mother’s arm, reluctant to let her go.  Her eyes were red, and she was about to cry.  Their relationship was more like daughter and mother than mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.  Lu’s mother truly treated her like her own daughter.

Lu’s mother comforted her for a while before handing her over to Lu Beixun and leaving with Lu’s father to board the plane.

Lu Beixun looked helpless.  He gently wiped away the tears from her cheeks.  He had never noticed how much she cried before.

He knew she was always a bit spoiled, but now she was a walking crybaby, ready to cry at any moment.

He coaxed her softly, “Little crybaby, Mom and Dad will be back soon.  Don’t cry.”

Cen Wan’s tears continued to flow.  Lu Beixun sighed, “Do you want to eat anything?  I’ll take you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Cen Wan stopped crying.  She enjoyed being comforted by Lu Beixun.  She wiped her tears on his shirt and mumbled, “Ice cream.”

“Let’s go.”  Lu Beixun took her hand and walked towards the airport exit.

Cen Wan sniffed and started to push her luck, “I want two.”

“One strawberry and one mango.”

Lu Beixun stopped, his eyes narrowed, his gaze fixed on her face.

Cen Wan felt a little scared under his gaze.  Had she said something wrong?

After a few seconds, Lu Beixun let go of her hand.  His voice was full of pressure, “Cry.  Wait until you’ve cried enough before coming home.”

Cen Wan: “…”

What kind of comforting was that?

He had been so patient with her just now.  Why did he suddenly change?

Was it too much to ask for two ice creams?

It shouldn’t be too much, right?

Cen Wan looked at him with a wronged expression, inching closer to him.  Lu Beixun took a step back, creating distance between them.  She knew it was the ice cream’s fault, “I don’t want ice cream anymore.  Come closer, let’s go home.”

Her eyes were clear, and they were even more endearing when she was crying.  Lu Beixun’s heart softened.  He walked over and pulled her into his arms, “Choose one, strawberry or mango.”

Lu Beixun was afraid that her weak body would get a stomachache if she ate too much.

“Mango.”  Cen Wan hesitated for a few seconds before choosing mango.

Cen Wan not only got her ice cream but also got sugar-coated chestnuts peeled by Lu Beixun.

Cen Wan teased, “Just say you care about me.  Don’t be so fierce.”

Lu Beixun hadn’t changed in this regard.  Whether it was in the previous life or this life, he always cared about her but acted fierce.

She peeled a sugar-coated chestnut and put it to his mouth.  Lu Beixun hesitated for a few seconds before taking it from her hand and eating it.

They arrived at Lu’s house at six o’clock.

It was dinner time.  Besides the ice cream and sugar-coated chestnuts, Cen Wan also ate a piece of dessert.  She didn’t have much of an appetite, “I’m not eating dinner.”

Lu Beixun looked at her and forced her to go to the dining room and have some soup, “Eat something.”

Seeing Lu Beixun’s firm attitude, Cen Wan knew that if she didn’t drink the soup, she wouldn’t be able to eat any snacks later, let alone have him feed her.

She drank a bowl of soup, and Lu Beixun didn’t make her eat anything else.

She said goodbye to Lu Beixun and went upstairs to take a shower.

The day she had agreed with Li Chaoyang arrived.  Cen Wan successfully obtained the evidence, a recording.  She went to a lawyer, who told her that the recording alone wasn’t enough.  Even if Cen Xiu went to jail, he wouldn’t be there for long.  Without concrete evidence, he would be released.

Cen Xiu didn’t fully trust Li Chaoyang.  Li Chaoyang could only get the recording by eavesdropping on Cen Xiu’s conversations.  The recording clearly showed that Cen Xiu was wary of Li Chaoyang.

However, Li Chaoyang told her that Cen Xiu had a computer modified with special technology that he always carried with him.  If the password was entered incorrectly once, all the data on the computer would be automatically deleted.  This was something Li Chaoyang had discovered by accident.

If she wasn’t mistaken, this computer should contain many secrets that Cen Xiu didn’t want anyone to see.

The plan fell through, and Cen Wan felt a little headache.  Thinking back, she seemed to have seen the computer Li Chaoyang mentioned.

Cen Wan didn’t bother Li Chaoyang anymore.  Besides her investigation, someone else was also investigating Cen Xiu, and they were much faster than her.

Lu’s company office.

He Yi: “Lu Zong, should we tell Madam?”

Lu Beixun’s expression was dark, “No, she wants to investigate herself.”

“Yes.”

“Remember to protect Madam’s safety.”  Lu Beixun: “Go and investigate how Jiang Yu died.  Was it an accident or murder?”

“Understood.”

The Jiang Yu Lu Beixun mentioned was Cen Xiu’s former assistant.  Cen Xiu was the deputy general manager of Cen’s company.  After the incident at Cen’s company, Jiang Yu died, drowned.

Jiang Yu liked to fish, so no one suspected anything when he drowned.  But Lu Beixun felt that things weren’t that simple.

Cen Wan hired several hackers to hack into Cen Xiu’s computer, but they all failed.  This alone showed how big and meticulous Cen Xiu’s plan was.

No matter how meticulous he was, he couldn’t be perfect.

Cen Wan started to investigate the people around Cen Xiu.  She accidentally discovered Cen Xiu’s former assistant, Jiang Yu.  He was dead, and he died at the same time as the incident at Cen’s family.  There was definitely something fishy about it.

She called someone to investigate.

This Sunday.

Cen’s parents went on a trip abroad.  Cen Luoluo, who usually didn’t come home because she was busy, came home this week.

Lu Beixun went to the company in the afternoon.  He had some unfinished work.  Cen Wan was bored at home when she received a call from Cen Luoluo, asking her to go home for dinner.

He only replied with an “嗯.”  Cen Wan was a little disappointed.  She was about to put her phone in her bag and leave when the message notification sounded again.

Lu Beixun: [I’ll find you when I’m done.]

Cen Wan smiled silently and quickly typed “Wait for you” and sent it.

When she arrived at Cen’s family’s living room, Cen Luoluo and Cen Xiu were sitting on the sofa.  Cen Wan saw the person she didn’t want to see.  Her expression turned ugly for a moment, but she quickly recovered and looked natural.  Cen Luoluo was usually carefree, but she was also very considerate sometimes.

She noticed Cen Wan’s mood and opened her mouth to explain something, but Cen Wan interrupted her.

Cen Wan’s voice was cold, “Cen Luoluo, are you itching for a beating?”

Cen Luoluo panicked.  She knew that Cen Wan was really angry this time, “Sister, let me explain.”
