Chapter 26: The Cold-Faced Boss

Shen Jianyu didn’t say anything more.  Since Lu Beixun knew, he wouldn’t let it go.  She didn’t need to worry about these things.

Thinking of something, she suddenly smiled, “Lu Beixun, did you say I’m ugly?”

Lu Beixun: “…”

His voice was very soft, “No.”

“Really?”  Shen Jianyu: “Your wife said it.”

Lu Beixun probably knew what time it was.  He looked protective, “If she says you’re ugly, then you’re ugly.”

Shen Jianyu: “…”

Thinking of that little woman, Lu Beixun’s eyes softened, “Who told you to provoke her?”

Shen Jianyu: “…”

This guy was so annoying.  She stood up from the sofa and walked to his desk, “Who did I provoke your wife for?  If I hadn’t seen that you were having a hard time chasing your wife, would I have meddled?”

Shen Jianyu rolled her eyes at him, “You have no conscience!”

Lu Beixun threw a document at her, “Sign it.”

Shen Jianyu picked up the pen.  She didn’t even look at the content and signed her name.  The documents Lu Beixun gave her were just some cooperation agreements.

After she signed, Lu Beixun gave her the boot, “Leave if you have nothing else to do.”

Shen Jianyu: “…”

Was he using and discarding her?

“I can leave.”  Shen Jianyu: “Where’s Xiao Yan?”

Lu Beixun: “He doesn’t want to see you.”

A hint of disappointment flashed in Shen Jianyu’s eyes, “If he doesn’t want to see me, then he doesn’t want to see me.  I’ll find him myself.”

“Kyoto is not that big.  If he’s capable, he can hide forever.”

“You’re the one who doesn’t want him.”  Lu Beixun’s tone was very light.

His words not only reminded Shen Jianyu but also stung her.

She pulled at the corner of her lips and picked up her bag, “I’m leaving.”

Shen Jianyu left the office and entered the elevator.  Tears streamed down her cheeks.  Yes, she was the one who didn’t want him.  How could she have the nerve to come back now?

Cen Wan and Lu Beixun’s relationship was warming up.  Aunt Yang was happy to see it.  She didn’t know why Cen Wan and Lu Beixun had quarreled.  Now that they were back together, it must have been because the misunderstanding was cleared up.

In the evening, Cen Wan pan-fried steak, poured red wine, and there were red roses she had bought from a flower shop on her way back.

Lu Beixun came back from work, and Cen Wan asked him to wash his hands and eat.

Cen Wan never told Lu Beixun that she cooked the food.  Lu Beixun knew but didn’t expose her.

For dinner today, Lu Beixun rarely praised her, “Not bad.”

Cen Wan looked at him in disbelief.  She couldn’t believe that these words came from his mouth.  She thought she had heard wrong.  She asked, “What did you just say?”

Lu Beixun’s lips curved, “The steak is good.”

“Then tomorrow I’ll still…”  Cen Wan’s eyes sparkled with excitement.  She almost blurted out what she was thinking and then hurriedly explained, “I mean, I’ll still ask Aunt Yang to cook tomorrow.”

Lu Beixun saw through it but didn’t expose her.  He cooperated with her and “嗯”ed.

Lu Beixun would stay home with her on Saturdays and Sundays.  But usually, when he went to work, she would be very bored at home.  She was a jobless vagrant.  Before marriage, she was supported by her family, and after marriage, she was supported by Lu Beixun.

She had been at home for two days, and she was so bored that she couldn’t stand it anymore.  An idea had been circling in her mind for several days.  After struggling, she called Lu’s mother and told her about her idea.

Lu’s mother didn’t agree.  She said that working was tiring and asked her to stay at home.  She could go shopping or do something she was interested in.

Cen Wan was persistent, and Lu’s mother had no choice.  She arranged a position for her at the company.  She would start tomorrow.

This way, she would have a job, exercise herself, and wouldn’t be bored.  She could also see Lu Beixun at work.

She asked Lu’s mother to arrange for her to join the administrative department, not too far from Lu Beixun but not too close either, so it wouldn’t interfere with his work.  She could still see him from time to time.

Cen Wan didn’t tell Lu Beixun.  She went to work directly the next day.  The person who took her to work was He Yi.

She felt a little dazed when she saw He Yi.  She remembered the disgusted and hateful look He Yi gave her after Lu Beixun died.

He Yi was wearing a suit, as impeccable as before.  Only now, his eyes no longer held disgust towards her.  She smiled, “He Yi, long time no see.”

He Yi nodded slightly at her and then took her into the elevator.

The elevator went up.  She looked at He Yi, “Does Lu Beixun know I’m coming?”

“Lu Zong doesn’t know yet.”  He Yi had received the task but hadn’t told Lu Beixun yet.

“嗯.”  Cen Wan: “Then don’t tell him.”

She thought of something and said, “Also, don’t tell anyone that I’m Lu Beixun’s wife.”

He Yi nodded.

Cen Wan just wanted to be an ordinary employee.  She didn’t want to attract unnecessary trouble or special treatment.  She had been to Lu’s company before, more than once.  But she always used the special passage, and no one recognized her.

The only person who recognized her at the front desk was gone.  She must have resigned.

Now, besides He Yi, no one knew her identity.

Public opinion could kill people.  Her father had always protected her and Cen Luoluo very well.  They only knew that the Cen family had two daughters.  No one knew what they looked like, not even their names.

Her wedding with Lu Beixun had shocked the entire Kyoto.  Everyone knew that Lu Beixun had married the eldest daughter of the Cen family.  But there wasn’t even a photo of the bride online.

Some people said that the eldest daughter of the Cen family was ugly and didn’t dare to show her face.  Others said it was just a business marriage without any feelings, so there was no need to show her face.  Of course, some detail-oriented people said that Lu Beixun did this to protect his wife.

Lu Beixun was indeed protecting her.  The internet was full of nonsense these days.  He was afraid that those unscrupulous marketing accounts would use her as a topic and selling point.

He Yi took her to the administrative department, on the 68th floor, one floor below Lu Beixun’s office.

Cen Wan introduced herself.  Everyone seemed very easy to get along with, so she felt relieved.  He Yi took her to her desk.  Cen Wan was stunned.

Was this a desk?  This was simply a paradise for slackers that many people would kill for.  She coughed lightly and looked at He Yi, “Do you think I’m here to slack off?”

He Yi: “No.”

Cen Wan awkwardly flipped her hair.

I don’t believe you.  You’re practically moving a bed in here for me.

He Yi left.  Cen Wan sat at her desk.  What should she do?  No one assigned her any work.

The person sitting at the desk next to her was a girl.  She looked a few years older than her.  Cen Wan hesitated and said, “Hello, what should I do?”

The girl glanced at her and continued working on her task, “You’re new here.  Get familiar with the environment.  My name is Chang Ning.  I’m not much older than you.  Just call me by my name.”

Cen Wan nodded.  It was the busiest time of the morning, so she didn’t ask any more questions.

She opened the employee handbook and looked at it.  She couldn’t help but sigh, “There are so many rules…”

Chang Ning heard her and said, “Besides the many rules and the cold-faced boss, the salary and benefits are good.  Work hard.  The company won’t treat you badly.”

Cen Wan nodded.

She wasn’t interested in money, only people.  But Chang Ning said that Lu Beixun was a cold-faced CEO…

She couldn’t help but chuckle.  Lu Beixun probably didn’t know that his employees called him that.
