Chapter 27: Don’t Be So Nervous

Chang Ning saw that Cen Wan had nothing to do, so she gave her two documents, “Do you know how to organize reports?”

“Yes.”  Finally, she had something to do.

She patiently listened to Chang Ning explain how to organize them.  Organizing reports was the easiest thing.  Cen Wan understood immediately, and soon, she finished organizing the two reports.

She had just stretched when a voice rang out.  It was the voice of the administrative department manager, “The CEO will arrive at the battlefield in five minutes.  Everyone, work hard.  Don’t whisper or look around.”

He didn’t know why his CEO suddenly decided to come down and personally attend the meeting.

Chang Ning whispered, “Why did the CEO suddenly come over?”

Thinking of something, she pulled Cen Wan and asked, “Do you have a backer?”

Cen Wan: “…”

She was stunned for two seconds.  Had she discovered her identity so quickly?

Chang Ning continued, “You’re He Yi’s relative, right?  New employees have designated people to take them around.  He Yi never interferes with these things.”

Cen Wan breathed a sigh of relief and awkwardly smiled, “Yes, I’m He Yi’s distant cousin.  I just came to Kyoto.  I don’t know anyone, and I don’t have a job.  My cousin couldn’t stand it anymore, so he found me a job.”

Chang Ning nodded, looking like she understood.

Chang Ning was easy to get along with, so Cen Wan asked, “By the way, is your CEO scary?”

“More than scary.”  Chang Ning: “He’s incredibly scary.  You don’t even need to say anything.  Just his aura is enough to scare you to death.”

Was he really that scary?

Cen Wan was about to say something when a voice interrupted her.

“The new employee.”  The manager called her.

She stood up from her desk and walked towards the manager, “Hello, Manager.”

The manager’s name was Xiang Yang.  He nodded and looked her up and down for a few seconds.  The person in front of him was stunning, both in appearance and figure.  He asked, “What’s your name?”

“Cen Wan.”  Xiang Yang’s gaze made her feel uncomfortable.

Xiang Yang “嗯”ed, “Cen Wan, I have a difficult task for you.”

“What?”  Cen Wan was puzzled.  What kind of work could be difficult?

“Pour a glass of water for the CEO during the meeting.”  Xiang Yang continued, “You’re new here, so you won’t be attending this meeting.”

Cen Wan nodded.

Before leaving, Xiang Yang said, “I’m not excluding you from the meeting because I have something against you.  I’m afraid you’ll be scared.  You’ll understand later.”

“After you deliver the water, just leave the meeting room.”

Cen Wan was confused but could only do as Xiang Yang said.

嗯, she would understand later.

Chang Ning walked over, “What did Xiang Ba Pi ask you to do?”

Cen Wan told her the truth, “Pour water for the CEO.”

“Xiang Ba Pi is heartless.”  Chang Ning cursed.  She felt sorry for Cen Wan for a few seconds and patted her shoulder, “Good luck.”

Cen Wan thought, was he really that scary?  It couldn’t be that bad.  Lu Beixun was usually very gentle to her, although he could be a little fierce sometimes.

She went to pour water.  The department members were already in the meeting room waiting.

The meeting room door opened.  Lu Beixun strode to his seat and scanned the room.  He didn’t see that figure.  He asked coldly, “Is everyone here?”

“Everyone is here.”  Even from Xiang Yang’s voice, you could hear that he was very nervous.

Lu Beixun sat down, resting one hand on the table.  His voice was cold, “Are you sure?”

The office atmosphere was oppressive.  Fine beads of sweat appeared on Xiang Yang’s forehead, “The new employee went to pour water.”

If you listened carefully, you could hear that Xiang Yang’s voice was trembling.

As soon as Xiang Yang finished speaking, Cen Wan pushed open the door.  She was holding a glass of water.  She was slightly stunned when she saw Lu Beixun.  Under the gaze of everyone in the meeting room, she delivered the water to Lu Beixun.

She placed the water on the table.  She didn’t know what to say.  Everyone was holding their breath for her, afraid that she would displease the cold-faced CEO and be thrown out.

Chang Ning was the most worried.  She had found a job through connections.  It would be too tragic if she was fired on her first day.

Lu Beixun’s face became even darker.  He kept staring at Cen Wan.  Cen Wan didn’t know what to do.  Xiang Yang gave her a wink.  She turned and walked away, ready to leave the meeting room.  She was about to open the door.

Lu Beixun spoke.  His voice was cool, “Stay for the meeting.”

Cen Wan: “…”

She stood at the door and turned back.  She hesitated for a few seconds and found a seat to sit down.  Even though she was new to the workplace, she knew who to listen to.

Lu Beixun’s face was so dark.  Could it be that he was angry?

Cen Wan thought about it.  She had started working without telling him.  Lu Beixun probably wasn’t happy about it.

The entire meeting was filled with low pressure.  Cen Wan understood.  No wonder he was called the cold-faced CEO.  It was truly no exaggeration.  He was completely different at home and at work.

During the meeting, Lu Beixun’s gaze was mostly on her.

And Cen Wan didn’t understand a lot of what was being said.

The meeting ended in low pressure.  Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, except for Cen Wan, who was still worried.  She hadn’t told Lu Beixun in advance because she wanted to surprise him.  Now it seemed like she had scared him, and he seemed to be annoyed.

After all, she didn’t understand a lot of things.  If she made frequent mistakes at work, Lu Beixun would probably think she was here to cause trouble.

Therefore, she had to work hard, ask questions when she didn’t understand, and make fewer mistakes.

Cen Wan had just returned to her desk and hadn’t even sat down when He Yi called her over.  He Yi took her into the elevator.  She asked, “Where are we going?”

“The CEO wants to see you.”

Cen Wan: “…”

This was bad.  Could it be that she was fired on her first day?  She asked again, “Did the CEO say what it was about?”

“No.”

He Yi took her to the office and left.  Cen Wan looked at the person behind the desk.  She walked over slowly, “CEO.”

Her “CEO” made Lu Beixun’s face darken even more.  His voice was cold, “Call me by my name.”

“Lu Beixun…”  Cen Wan lowered her head and picked at her fingers.

Lu Beixun’s face softened slightly.  His thin lips parted, “Come here.”

Cen Wan walked around the desk and slowly walked to his side.  He grabbed her wrist and pulled her in, bringing her into his arms.  She fell onto his lap.

Lu Beixun: “Alright, don’t be so nervous.  If you want to stay, then stay.”

“Really?”

Lu Beixun “嗯”ed.

Cen Wan was so excited that she forgot she was on Lu Beixun’s lap.  When she realized, she struggled to get up, but he held her tightly in his arms.

Cen Wan pushed him, “This is the office.  It’s not good if someone sees us.”

“No one will come.”

Hearing Lu Beixun say this, Cen Wan breathed a sigh of relief, “When did you know I was coming?”

“Before the meeting.”  Lu Beixun reached out and pinched her cheek, as if expressing his dissatisfaction, “Work is tiring.  Can you handle it?”

Cen Wan playfully pecked his lips, “It’s not like I’m working construction.  I can handle it.  Don’t worry.”

“Also, don’t tell anyone about our relationship.  I don’t want to be treated differently.”

“I understand.”  Lu Beixun held her head and kissed her hard, as if punishing her for acting first and asking for forgiveness later.

Cen Wan was kissed until her whole body was numb.  She slumped in his arms, her soft arms wrapped around his neck.  She gasped for breath.

Her usually clear eyes were filled with a layer of mist, making her look pitiful but also wanting to be bullied.

Lu Beixun only let her go when she was about to suffocate, allowing her to breathe freely.
