Chapter 30: You Just Said You Were Whose Wife?

Time flew by, and Cen Wan adapted to the life of working. She could keep up with the work pace, and the work atmosphere was very harmonious. There wasn’t much backstabbing.

After work, her colleagues would pull her into gossip sessions.

Overall, working was a good choice. However, she discovered that the girl sitting opposite Chang Ning had a deep grudge against her.

The girl’s name was Xu Meng. She would deliberately cause trouble for Cen Wan under the pretense of work, saying some harsh words, or assigning her more difficult tasks.

At first, Xu Meng was just rude. Cen Wan thought it might be because she hadn’t done her work well, so she didn’t mind. Chang Ning would put down her less urgent work and help her complete the more difficult tasks.

One day, Cen Wan couldn’t take it anymore.

Xu Meng had assigned her a task, and only the ending was left. Chang Ning looked at the opposite side. Xu Meng wasn’t there, so she asked, “Did you offend Xu Meng?”

“You noticed that she’s targeting me?” Cen Wan said.

Chang Ning nodded.

Cen Wan shrugged and smiled, “I don’t know. Maybe I did offend her.”

Actually, she could say that if Xu Meng hadn’t been trying to get attention in front of her, she wouldn’t have even noticed her, let alone offended her.

She had been considered an intern for the past few days, so she had been relatively free and had been willing to do the work Xu Meng assigned her.

At this time, Xiang Yang came over and asked her a few questions about whether she was adapting to work. Cen Wan answered politely. Then, Xiang Yang asked her out to dinner. She didn’t even think before refusing.

Xiang Yang left dejectedly. Chang Ning saw Xiang Yang’s attempt to curry favor and understood, “I know why Xu Meng is targeting you.”

“Why?”

Chang Ning slightly pushed her chair and slid next to Cen Wan. She whispered mysteriously, “Xiang Ba Pi has been trying to curry favor with you, right?”

Cen Wan thought about it, “If what just happened counts as currying favor, then yes.”

This was the third time Xiang Yang had asked her out to dinner. The first time was in the tea room, just the two of them. The second time was when she was waiting for Chang Ning at the cafeteria entrance. The third time was now.

“That makes sense.”  Chang Ning moved closer to her and said in a voice only they could hear, “Xu Meng and Xiang Ba Pi are having an affair. She likes Xiang Ba Pi, but he only sleeps with her and doesn’t give her a title.”

“Having an affair with Xiang Ba Pi is also why Xu Meng, who is just an ordinary employee, acts so superior. Xiang Ba Pi gives her special privileges. She has a strong background.”

“Now, Xiang Ba Pi is trying to curry favor with you, which threatens her position. Of course she’s going to target you.”

Chang Ning looked at the seat opposite her, “I told you on your first day, avoid Xu Meng. This is the reason.”

Xu Meng, because of her relationship with Xiang Yang, walked around the company with her nose in the air. Although some people were unhappy with her, they wouldn’t say anything to offend Xiang Yang. After all, she was Xiang Yang’s long-term sex object.

So that’s how it is. Cen Wan understood.

“People are different. Your cousin is He Yi. He didn’t even do anything to you. Xiang Ba Pi is nothing compared to your cousin.”  Chang Ning patted her shoulder to comfort her, “You don’t need to be afraid of Xu Meng. If she targets you again, ask your cousin to fire her.”

“I’m not afraid.”  Cen Wan wasn’t afraid at all.  She was only doing the work Xu Meng assigned her because she was free.  Besides, she was working for Lu Beixun, not Xu Meng.

Chang Ning was puzzled, “Speaking of which, Xu Meng knows that you’re He Yi’s distant cousin. Why is she still targeting you?”

“I don’t know either.”  Cen Wan had a reason for telling her colleagues that He Yi was her distant cousin.  She could avoid special treatment while also avoiding being deliberately targeted, so she could work peacefully.

But she was still being targeted.

Xu Meng dared to target Cen Wan because she didn’t believe that He Yi was really her cousin.  She thought that if He Yi was really her cousin, he would have easily arranged a better position for her.

Actually, it wasn’t just Xu Meng who didn’t believe it.  Many colleagues were skeptical about He Yi being her cousin.  But it didn’t concern them, so they would just gossip about it privately.  They were still nice to Cen Wan.

At this time, Xu Meng came back.  She stood at her desk, arms crossed, and looked down at Cen Wan with a face full of impatience, “Did you finish the task I assigned you?”

Cen Wan scanned her and said in a tone without any warmth, “Almost.”

“What’s wrong with you?”  Xu Meng said, “You can’t even finish this small task.  What are you good for?”

Xu Meng’s voice was sharp.  Many colleagues looked over.

Cen Wan frowned in displeasure.  These two documents had only been in her hands for half an hour.  She was already working quickly.  She was clearly picking a fight, “I said almost.  Are you deaf?”

Xu Meng never expected Cen Wan to talk back to her.  She raised her chin and sneered, “You really think you’re something because you’re He Yi’s cousin?”

“That’s funny.  I might as well say I’m the CEO’s wife.”  Xu Meng looked at her with disdain, “You really think you’re a big shot.”

Xu Meng’s words were sharp.  Chang Ning’s eyebrows furrowed.  She slammed her hand on the table and stood up.

The other colleagues looked at Cen Wan with concern, but they wouldn’t stand up for her and fight Xu Meng.  They wouldn’t stand up for her, and they wouldn’t take sides.

Xu Meng’s gaze fell on Chang Ning.  She sneered, “Even if you’re clinging to someone’s leg, you need to know who you’re clinging to.  Do you know where this one next to you came from?”

Chang Ning had long been unable to stand Xu Meng.  She snatched the document from Cen Wan’s hand and slammed it into Xu Meng’s face.  She was quick, accurate, and ruthless.  The document hit Xu Meng’s face and fell to the ground.  “Whoever wants to do it, do it.  Our Wan Wan isn’t serving you anymore.”

Chang Ning had never thought about clinging to anyone’s leg.  Cen Wan had been sitting next to her.  She was new to the company.  She remembered when she was new, she didn’t understand anything and didn’t dare to ask, so she wanted to help Cen Wan.

Later, the two of them became close friends.  Cen Wan would listen to her talk seriously.  Her fondness for Cen Wan grew.

Cen Wan didn’t expect Chang Ning to stand up for her.  Xu Meng’s face was red from the folder.  She covered her face and glared at Chang Ning and Cen Wan, “I see you two don’t want to work anymore?”

“Are you going to go find Xiang Ba Pi?”  Chang Ning said, “You really think being shameless is an honor?  You’re using your body to its full potential.  You’re disgusting.”

Chang Ning said what many colleagues wanted to say but didn’t dare.

Xu Meng’s face was green with anger.  The two of them argued more and more fiercely.  Cen Wan stood up from her desk in annoyance and walked to Xu Meng.  She looked at the scattered documents on the ground and bent down to pick them up and put them on the desk.

Cen Wan looked at Chang Ning, who was still typing furiously.  She casually rolled up her sleeves and looked at Xu Meng coldly.  She slapped her, “啪.”  The entire floor went silent.

Chang Ning was shocked and couldn’t speak.  This was…  too domineering.

Xu Meng’s face was slapped to the side.  A few seconds later, a clear slap mark appeared on her face.  The colleagues were both excited and worried for her.

Cen Wan slapped Xu Meng, not because Xu Meng was targeting her, but because she said something she shouldn’t have.

Her eyes were dangerous.  Her voice was cold, “You just said you were whose wife?”
