Sun Kan has been struggling recently, but it’s not as bad as he thought. His living situation has gotten worse, his lover kicked him out, and his parents are disappointed in him. He’s been unlucky in many unexpected ways.
But compared to his current situation, it doesn’t seem as important anymore.
Is there anything more unfortunate than a living person suddenly turning into a cat?!
It looked at its dirty, tiny cat paws and thought, this must be a really realistic dream, one where even the pain feels real!
But just as Sun Kan was thinking, his body was suddenly lifted and hugged around the chest. A very familiar man’s face leaned in, carefully examined him.
In a soft voice, he murmured, “Seems like it’s not dead…”
Sun Kan struggled desperately, trying to escape the closeness of his “enemy,” but his weak body had no strength to fight back. His stomach still throbbed with pain, and he could only feel helpless as he was wrapped in the man’s arms and carried upstairs into the living room.
Everything around him suddenly felt overwhelmingly unreal. He could hear the man’s heartbeat and breathing close to him, even the faint scent of the shower gel on his body became unusually distinct.
Sun Kan twisted his body, using his claws to push against the man’s chest, and then he heard the sound of rapid breathing getting closer. Instinctively, he sensed danger. He lowered his head and looked down, and two large dog heads, looking like golden retrievers or possibly golden retrievers, moved closer. From the looks of it, they seemed to be desperately sniffing him, using the man’s body to prop themselves up.
The man’s deep voice scolded:
“Jianjian! Kangkang! Get away from me! My pants!!”
When Sun Kan was human, he really liked small animals. Although this cat’s body was afraid of dogs, Sun Kan actually felt there was no reason to be scared.
So, he just silently looked down on the man for his terrible naming skills, which were as bad as his own name.
In order to prevent the dogs from harming the little cat, the man placed it on the windowsill.
Sun Kan felt like he must be a newborn kitten because the windowsill seemed so wide to him. He shrank into the farthest corner, while the two dogs lay on the floor below the windowsill, staring and sniffing at him, their tongues flicking in and out.
The man must have gone to the bedroom to make a phone call, as the sound of phone keys came from the room. Sun Kan was amazed at how good his hearing was. He knew this accommodation was jointly owned by the man and that person. He had been here before, but he never knew that the second floor held hidden surprises. They had ended up living together again.
Sun Kan awkwardly moved his paw, feeling that everything here was becoming more and more displeasing.
So, what about that person?
He peeked around but didn’t see anyone. Zhao Ziqiang was on the phone, and Sun Kan could hear the other person’s voice through the receiver.
“Hello?”
“Hello, what’s wrong? What happened?”
“Why are you so nervous? I’m just telling you something.”
“What is it?”
“I found a tiny stray cat at the hotel entrance. It’s so small, so I brought it back with me.”
“You don’t have to tell me. If you want to keep it, then keep it.”
“I know. I just wanted to say, when you come back, bring some flea shampoo for cats from the pet store. I’ll hang up now.”
“…”
The man hung up the phone and walked back. After a moment of thought, he went to the kitchen, grabbed a small dipping dish, and poured some milk for the dogs.
He brought it over to Sun Kan, who glanced at it briefly before turning his head to look out the window. A deep sense of humiliation filled him. He couldn’t understand what he had done to deserve this, why the heavens had turned him into this and were now humiliating him.
It looked at the man in front of it, Zhao Ziqiang. The frustration he had long accepted returned. The man hadn’t even shaved his stubble this morning, and his face looked worn and tired—how can he compare to him, Sun Kan?
In a moment of frustration, it couldn’t help but let out a “Meow~.” Immediately afterward, it sank into a slump again. Yes, in this state, it was him who couldn’t compare at all!
Seeing the little cat lying still, ignoring the milk, Zhao Ziqiang thought to himself that he might have caused a bit of trouble. But he hadn’t heard that cats couldn’t drink milk. After a moment’s thought, he added some warm water from the water dispenser and coaxed gently:
“Come on, little guy, drink a bit! You need to drink to survive… Come on, meow~~”
Sun Kan’s stomach growled with hunger. As he looked at Zhao Ziqiang’s face, he suddenly wondered what would happen if he swiped his paw at him.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, he realized his claws were instinctively extending and retracting. Afraid of being discovered, he quickly tucked his body down.
He thought to himself that surviving was the only way he could return to his original body. Otherwise, feeling dizzy and weak, there was nothing he could do. Comforting himself with this thought, he adjusted his body, turned his back on Zhao Ziqiang, and began licking the milk in the bowl. After the water had been added, the taste was faint, but the warm sensation felt nice.
After finishing the milk, he initially wanted to think of a plan, but soon found himself too sleepy to focus. In no time, he slumped over on the counter, his mind fuzzy, thinking that maybe when he woke up, he would be back to his old self.
There’s no greater happiness than waking up naturally, but unfortunately…..
Sun Kan suddenly jolted awake with a start, feeling a sharp pain near his ears. It felt like his eyelids were being pulled out of shape, and his vision was reduced to a narrow slit. His head and body were swinging in midair, and with his cat instincts, he knew there were two beasts below, hopping around, looking at his butt!
His hearing was noticeably duller, but he could still make out Qian Wang’s voice.
“This is so filthy! I think it’s better to toss it in the washing machine and give it a good spin…”
Suddenly, he was shaken, and it felt like his ears no longer belonged to him…
That person dodged slightly, his voice carrying a playful tone.
“I know, I know, just kidding… Do you want to wash it, or should I? Or we could all three do it together… Ah! Fine! I’ll do it…”
That person kept holding its ear, and for the first time in its life, it hurt so much that it wanted to curse this person!
Entering the bathroom, the bathtub had probably already been filled with water by Zhao Ziqiang, but the water was very shallow. Sun Kan felt that it had been lowered a lot before his paws touched the water.
Then, he instinctively started struggling wildly. Without thinking, his claws shot out, and as he flailed, he felt like he might lift off the ground.
“Damn it!!”
He must have accidentally scratched Qian Wang. Sun Kan felt himself being thrown hard, crashing into the bathroom wall. However, with his soft cat body, he bounced off the ground and quickly flipped back onto his feet. His paws slipped as he desperately ran out of the bathroom. After bumping into the two large dogs that had rushed over, he let out an even more miserable scream and ran back. Then, Zhao Ziqiang suddenly picked him up and held him in his arms.
His sigh was heard.
“I knew it… Alright, you can go out, I’ll handle it. No need for you… Forget it, it’s better if you help.”
Then the sound of the bathroom door closing.
He completely ignored everything and burrowed deeper into Zhao Ziqiang’s chest, his claws still tense and extended. When he realized they might be exposed, he quickly pressed them back into Zhao Ziqiang’s chest, and then he heard Zhao Ziqiang let out a muffled grunt.
…then he was tossed out again by Qian Wang for the second time.
Dizzy and disoriented, he crawled up and saw Zhao Ziqiang crouching on the floor, clutching his chest and scolding Qian Wang,”
“What’s wrong with you… Do you think it won’t die from the fall!?”
He frowned and started unbuttoning his shirt. Qian Wang smiled apologetically, carefully leaning in to take a look. Sun Kan scoffed and licked his paw, still feeling bits of flesh between his claws.
From his angle, Sun Kan could clearly see a red mark on Zhao Ziqiang’s flat chest, still oozing blood. The mark… tragically crossed over that small spot… which was already starting to swell and turn red.
Qian Wang’s expression was clearly off. Sun Kan swore he saw him bite his lip and swallow hard… He wanted to raise his paw and report!!
Zhao Ziqiang frowned.
“I heard that cats are afraid of water. This little guy is quite something.”
Qian Wang nodded in agreement.
“Exactly! After this, he needs a good lesson… Do you need a tetanus shot for that wound?”
“No need… Hey!!”
“Mm… I’ll help you disinfect it…”
Sun Kan’s mind was buzzing as he watched that person, feeling for the first time how shameless he was. Qian Wang was vaguely sucking at the wound, his tongue moving back and forth in clear, deliberate motions.
Zhao Ziqiang hissed softly, pushing his shoulder, but then thought, well, it’s just a cat, letting it go a bit wouldn’t hurt. The two of them naturally started hugging and kissing deeply. Sun Kan blushed—well, if he could even blush in this state!
A wave of frustration surged in its heart, but it couldn’t even make a sound. Watching as the two of them stripped off their clothes, one piece after another, the atmosphere growing hotter, the cat felt like crying…
Zhao Ziqiang had expected this to happen gradually and allowed Qian Wang to continue moving his tongue around and taking off their pants. The bathroom, less foggy than usual, reflected everything clearly in the mirror. Zhao Ziqiang cast a quick glance at the little cat, noticing its peculiar expression, but soon enough, Qian Wang’s kisses drew him in once more.
In the bathroom, a mix of sounds could be heard one after another. Two dogs lay on the floor by the door, waiting…
Finally, Zhao Ziqiang stepped out wrapped in a bathrobe, while Qian Wang carried the cat, who had ended up not getting a bath, looking dazed.
During the restaurant’s hours, no one paid attention to Sun Xiaomiao. Scared to get down, he lay on the windowsill, sad and lost in thought, until the doors closed in the evening.
Zhao Ziqiang sat on the sofa, holding a big bag of popcorn, watching TV. When Sun Kan woke up and opened his eyes, he saw something that made his eyes shine—there was nothing he wanted more than to turn back into a human!
Seeing the two dogs sleeping at the bedroom door, he sighed and muttered, “Meow~~~~~.” Zhao Ziqiang’s attention was drawn over.
“Hey, you’re awake? Hungry, little one?”
Sun Kan gave him a cold stare and ignored him, stubbornly shouting in Qian Wang’s direction.
“Meow~ Meow~ Meow~ Meow~~~”
Qian Wang, wearing glasses and holding a laptop, heard the shouting and looked over.
“Be careful, don’t get caught again.”
Then, he continued to lower his head and focus on his own business.
Sun Kan was about to persist without giving up when Zhao Ziqiang picked him up and placed him on the coffee table. Before he had a chance to struggle, he felt a bit of joy and hurried toward the laptop on Qian Wang’s lap. But before he could get there, he saw Qian Wang furrow his brows and raise his hand. Instinctively, he flicked his ears back and stopped in his tracks.
Zhao Ziqiang said behind him:
“Don’t scare it. See what it wants to do. Perhaps, it likes you a lot…”
Qian Wang curled his lip, his arms crossed over his chest, watching him coldly. In the quiet atmosphere, Sun Kan lifted his head and stepped forward, lying down in front of the computer to start using it. This time, both of them were surprised and leaned in to take a closer look.
It was in tune with its meowing.
Sun Kan struggled to control the mouse, putting in a lot of effort but to no avail. He switched to the keyboard, using the arrow keys and the Enter key to open Word, then started typing little by little. Zhao Ziqiang and Qian Wang were both stunned, staring at each other in disbelief.
Qian Wang was thinking how such a miraculous thing happened to them, while Zhao Ziqiang’s mind hadn’t fully caught up, only echoing in his head that not only could it press keys, but it could also switch input methods…
When the words “I am Sun Kan” appeared on the screen,
Zhao Ziqiang raised his hand and turned off the TV. The room became so quiet you could hear a hair falling…
Zhao Ziqiang moved back and sat on the nearby sofa, while Qian Wang, his lips twitching, stood up and positioned himself behind Zhao Ziqiang. The three of them—Zhao Ziqiang, Qian Wang, and the cat—were all locked in a standoff.
Zhao Ziqiang snapped out of it first, and the first thing he thought was, if this thing is really Sun Kan, then what happened in the bathroom today was incredibly embarrassing. Meanwhile, Qian Wang felt that whether it was a human or a cat, to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings, he might as well stay as far away as possible and not get involved…
Sun Kan, feeling frustrated, realized that no one seemed shocked or even asked him directly. Instead, both of them wore blank, stiff expressions, looking completely spaced out.
He let out a loud “Meow!” in frustration and finally getting a reflexive response from Zhao Ziqiang:
“Must be fake.”
Surprisingly, Qian Wang even nodded along from behind!
Sun Kan anxiously paced in circles, crying out in distress, “Meow” after “Meow.” Only then did Zhao Ziqiang fully snap back to reality.
“…How could this happen? How is this possible?”
Sun Kan switched to a mocking expression and replied, “Meow meow~~~!”
Realizing he couldn’t speak, Sun Kan turned in frustration and tapped the ground:
“How—how would I—know—you—brought—me—home?”
Zhao Ziqiang, now believing it, stood up, his voice softening with sympathy.
“You’re really unfortunate…”
Qian Wang followed closely behind him, and when he saw Zhao Ziqiang putting on clothes, he asked:
“What are you doing?”
“Taking him home.”
“You going?”
“Of course!”
“Well… then I won’t go.”
“You want me to hold a kitten and tell people it’s their son, then get beaten up with a stick?”
“…Oh.”
Qian Wang resigned himself and got dressed. After asking the cat a few questions, the three of them—two person and one cat—headed out. Zhao Ziqiang found a paper bag and stuffed the cat into it. Both he and the cat were awkward during the brief physical contact.
Qian Wang was even more exaggerated. Normally, whenever they went out, he would always help Zhao Ziqiang carry things, but this time, whenever the bag was switched to another side, he would dodge it like it was the plague. He kept sneaking glances at Zhao Ziqiang’s expression, which was so comical it made Zhao Ziqiang unable to hold back his laughter.
Inside the paper bag, Sun Kan swayed back and forth, feeling nervous about his upcoming situation.
Zhao Ziqiang and Qian Wang followed the address Sun Kan had written and were somewhat surprised to find that it was practically a rundown area. It used to be an old industrial district’s residential building, one of the few remaining blocks still waiting to be demolished. Both of them were quiet for a moment.
When they arrived and the door swung open, they were met with a scene of chaos inside. Sun Kan’s mother, her eyes red, quickly tried to shut the door upon seeing them. Sun Kan’s father sat on the sofa, looking disheveled and smoking, while loud banging echoed from behind the bedroom door.
Zhao Ziqiang and Qian Wang exchanged a glance, some sympathy in their eyes. They briefly explained the situation to the agitated Sun Kan’s mother and let the cat out.
Sun Kan’s mother and the cat locked eyes for a few seconds before she gently picked it up and cradled it in her arms. Tears streamed down her face once again. After hearing the explanation, Sun Kan’s father, as if deflated, ignored them and went straight to the room to check on “Sun Kan”’s condition.
Still in his mother’s arms, Sun Kan couldn’t hold back when he entered the room. He let out a shocked shout at the sight of his own body, disheveled and clad only in his underwear. The wardrobe and desk were in complete disarray, and he—no, that strange thing—was crouched on the floor, staring at them.
Feeling anxious, Sun Kan hurriedly jumped out of his mother’s embrace. The other “Sun Kan” clearly became agitated upon seeing him. Although his face remained expressionless, his eyes clearly showed happiness. As soon as Sun Kan landed on the ground, he quickly grabbed him.
“Sun Kan” gently licked the cat’s head and ears.
Both of Sun Kan’s parents were extremely anxious but couldn’t get too close, fearing that the fake Sun Kan might accidentally harm their real son.
Zhao Ziqiang and Qian Wang both felt a mix of pity and awkwardness upon seeing the scene. They felt that they had done everything they could, and the rest of the strange happenings were now part of the family’s own business. So, they quietly left.
As for what happened to the person and the cat afterward, well…the author says… no one knows!
TN: Officially finished! I know this is just a simple, ordinary story, but its realism really resonated with me, and I felt compelled to share it with you all. All credits go to the author for the story and to Shanghai Fantasy for allowing me to be part of this. Thank you!
