Chapter 3 – My Space Is Actually…
After another good night’s sleep, Wang Yi was woken early in the morning by all kinds of noises. The apartment she was renting—whether in terms of price or distance from work—was really quite perfect.
The only drawback was the poor soundproofing. But today, Wang Yi was in such a good mood that she treated the noises as if they were pleasant background music.
She thought to herself: I should pack up what needs to be mailed out, store the larger items into my space, and say goodbye to my roommates. Then I can return the apartment.
“Sigh, so many things to do!” she muttered.
Suddenly, she shot upright, instantly alert.
Other people’s “space” usually had a jade pendant or bracelet as the medium. But what about hers?
Frowning in confusion, she went into the living room. Looking at the things stained with her blood yesterday, she felt even more puzzled—none of them looked like they could serve as a spatial medium.
She carefully searched. On the coffee table, there were only some A4 papers, tissues, and a few snacks. None of them fit the bill!
Completely baffled, she gave up. Forget it. I’ll just bring everything with me, no need to make things harder for myself.
Having made up her mind, she turned to go wash up. As she turned, her eyes fell on the coffee table—though in reality, it was just a secondhand old table she had bought. Still, the thing was unbelievably sturdy.
Her doubtful gaze turned into horror. Don’t tell me… this shabby old table is my spatial medium?
With suspicion, she touched and examined it from every angle. But there was nothing special about it—other than being darker than most tables.
Yet the more she looked at it, the more she felt drawn to it, even finding it beautiful. She smiled goofily at it, drooling a little. If anyone saw her like this, they’d definitely think she wasn’t right in the head.
Suddenly, a voice spoke:
“Do I get no say in this? I want to change masters. This one’s a bit… mentally challenged.”
Wang Yi jumped and shouted, “Who are you calling mentally challenged? Say it again and I’ll smack you so hard your head farts!”
The voice sighed dramatically.
“Now I really want a new master. Not just slow-witted but also reckless. How unlucky am I?”
Wang Yi panicked. “Who’s there? Show yourself, stop pretending to be a ghost!”
“I’m right in front of you. What’s the point of me ‘coming out’? Honestly, your IQ is impressive in its own way.”
Wang Yi widened her eyes and slapped the old table. “You’re the one talking?”
“Hmph. Who else would it be?”
Now she was genuinely scared. Wait… wasn’t it after the founding of the People’s Republic that monsters were banned from cultivating? Since when could a table become a spirit?!
Trying to steady herself, she asked, “So you’re the space? That’s… a unique form, I’ll give you that. I didn’t even complain about you, and you dare complain about me?”
The table replied, “I’m a magical artifact. My old master liked making unusual things. I had to fight for a long time just to get this table form.”
“Pfft—so you mean you’ve had other shapes? Tell me, I want to see if you just picked badly. Maybe I’ll get a laugh out of it.”
This time, the little table went silent.
“What? Not talking anymore?” Wang Yi grinned. That means the other shapes must’ve been really something. No rush, I’ll get it out of him later.
Still, the table was too big. How was she supposed to carry it around?
The little table explained, “I can shrink myself. You can wear me, or place me anywhere. Once you sign a contract with me, you don’t need to worry about anyone else picking me up and forming a contract.”
That solved her problem. Otherwise, lugging a table around everywhere would really make her look like she’d lost her mind.
The table continued: “The land in the space can be cultivated with your mind, and harvesting works the same way. As for the spring, it can cleanse your body and strengthen your health if you drink from it long-term.”
Now that she understood the functions and how to use them, she truly felt one with her space.
Just then, her phone rang from the bedroom.
She saw the caller ID—it was Li Jibai. She had only blocked him on WeChat and had forgotten about his phone number.
Wang Yi didn’t pick up. Not giving him that satisfaction.
But he was persistent, calling again and again. Truly annoying.
“Wang Yi, you extorted me for 5000 yuan! I can call the police. And another thing—who gave you the right to dump me? You think you’re worthy?” His voice was so loud, it sounded like a barking dog even from a distance.
Smiling, Wang Yi said sweetly, “Guess what, Li Jibai? My surveillance cameras recorded everything. You two really disgust me. Should I remind you of the exact date, time, and what you were doing?”
The heavy breathing on the other end showed he was furious.
Wang Yi pressed on, “Guess what would happen if I got mad and reported you for soliciting prostitution?”
That shut him up completely. No fight left in him.
“Click”—he hung up. Pathetic.
Wang Yi immediately blocked his number. Finally, peace.
But she didn’t want to risk being harassed by him and Bai Miaomiao again. They had no sense of shame.
So she downloaded the surveillance footage and sent it straight to Bai Miaomiao.
Within a minute, Bai called her on video. Wang Yi rejected it.
She messaged back: “Keep a leash on your dog. Don’t come barking at me, or I won’t mind making this public. I’ve got nothing to lose.”
Bai Miaomiao sent multiple voice messages, but Wang Yi didn’t listen to a single one.
She replied only once: “Don’t provoke me again, or bear the consequences.” Then she blocked her as well.
The world was finally clean again.
After a day of organizing, Wang Yi had mostly settled everything.
She even called her landlord to say she wouldn’t renew the lease next quarter.
Then she messaged Wei Xue and Ding Lina, asking them to meet tomorrow at the all-you-can-eat hotpot and BBQ place near the school.
Seeing that she still had time, she decided to buy some vegetable seeds. It’d be such a waste to leave that farmland in my space empty.
She bought a packet of everything—eggplants, peppers…
Back home, she realized her parents had never let her work the fields. During busy farming seasons, she only helped with cooking, tidying, and laundry—chores within her ability.
This would be her first time farming. Thankfully, she didn’t need to physically plant by hand; otherwise, it would’ve been exhausting.
With just her thoughts, she planted all the seeds she bought. Yet that only covered one-tenth of the land. It was clear how vast her space was. Who knows when I’ll be able to fully use it all?
The little table explained, “Time in the space flows differently—one minute inside equals six hours outside.”
And it had a preservation function. Otherwise, with so many vegetables, what would she do if they spoiled?
Wang Yi felt like she had struck gold. A pie had fallen straight from the sky and hit her on the head.
The more she thought about it, the happier she became—and the closer she was to returning home in the Northeast.
She wondered whether her parents would be more shocked or delighted. She couldn’t wait to find out.
