Chapter 13: Saving the Pregnant Woman
In the tranquil days at Qingyan Mountain, Bai Linglong systematically taught Xiaocui medical skills and knowledge about childbirth.
At the same time, she enjoyed the anticipation and happiness that came with carrying quadruplets.
Every day, she drank from the spiritual spring, using the miraculous power of the space to nourish her body, and her condition grew increasingly robust.
One day, with the sun shining brightly and a gentle breeze blowing, Bai Linglong and Xiaocui decided to go to the town for a stroll.
The marketplace was bustling with activity, with an array of goods displayed along the streets, and the shouts of vendors echoed in the air.
As Bai Linglong and Xiaocui navigated through the crowd, stopping occasionally to admire interesting items, a sudden commotion broke their leisurely pace.
They noticed a large crowd gathered in front of the medical clinic, people whispering anxiously to one another.
Curious, Bai Linglong and Xiaocui approached to see two strong men carrying a pale, moaning pregnant woman.
Beside them, a white-haired old woman fell to her knees, tears streaming down her face as she cried out toward the clinic, “Doctor, please have mercy and save my daughter-in-law! She has been in labor for a long time; if this continues, it will be a death sentence for both mother and child!”
In front of the clinic, the crowd was tightly packed, expressions of urgency and helplessness written on their faces, all staring intently at the closed door.
An elderly woman with graying hair furrowed her brow, letting out a heavy sigh.
Nearby, a young wife with red-rimmed eyes gently shook her head, “Elder, is there really no way to save them? If she dies, what will her family do?”
An old man stroked his beard, shaking his head, “This is a serious complication; even the doctors in the clinic can’t do anything. What can we ordinary folks do but worry?”
At that moment, the pregnant woman’s mother-in-law, the white-haired old woman, collapsed to the ground, her hands pounding the earth as she cried out in despair, “Heaven, please open your eyes! My poor daughter-in-law is carrying the lifeblood of our family; how can you be so cruel! Please, someone save her!”
From the crowd, someone attempted to help the old woman up, gently comforting her, “Elder, please get up. Don’t be too sad; there might still be hope.”
But the old woman cried even harder, “What hope can there be? The doctor has already shaken his head. My poor daughter-in-law and grandchild…”
Bai Linglong furrowed her brow, filled with sympathy. She softly said to Xiaocui, “Xiaocui, go ask about the situation up ahead.”
Xiaocui hurriedly squeezed through the crowd and soon rushed back.
Her expression was frantic as she reported, “Sister, it’s a pregnant woman in labor, and the doctors at the clinic say they are powerless. They told to them prepare for her funeral.”
Upon hearing this, Bai Linglong wasted no time and quickly walked to the clinic’s entrance, addressing the doctor inside, “Doctor, is there a room available? I may be able to save her.”
The doctor examined Bai Linglong from head to toe, noting her ordinary clothing and young age, filled with doubt and hesitation, and did not respond immediately.
After all, in such a critical situation as a complicated delivery, any slip-up could lead to serious trouble.
Seeing his hesitation, Bai Linglong immediately pulled out a silver ingot from her sleeve and offered it, “Doctor, this is the rental fee; just let me use the room. If she doesn’t survive, it’s not your responsibility.”
The doctor stared at the silver, then looked into Bai Linglong’s determined eyes. After weighing his options, he finally nodded and said, “Alright, this way please.”
He led them to an empty room.
Bai Linglong instructed the strong men to carefully lift the pregnant woman onto the bed. Then she turned to the doctor and said, “Please guard the door and don’t let anyone in to disturb us.”
The doctor complied, closing the door behind him.
Inside the room were only Bai Linglong, Xiaocui, and the unconscious pregnant woman.
With a serious expression, Bai Linglong turned to Xiaocui and said, “Xiaocui, I’m going to take you to a very special place now. You mustn’t be afraid. But this secret must stay between us; if it leaks, we will both be in danger. Do you understand?”
Although Xiaocui was filled with fear and confusion, seeing Bai Linglong’s serious demeanor, she nodded vigorously, her voice trembling slightly, “Yes, I understand. I’m not afraid.”
