Chapter 108: Dr. Luo Is Hiding Too Deeply, Right?
With some guidance, it wasn’t difficult for Luo Qianyun to find Lu Yunzheng.
“How come you came over here? It’s more convenient to eat inside,” Lu Yunzheng said, wiping the nearby chair to make room for Luo Qianyun to sit.
Luo Qianyun placed her boxed lunch on the table and sat next to him. “I’m here to keep an eye on you.”
“Keep an eye on me?” Lu Yunzheng asked.
“Yes, once you finish eating, you need to rest,” Luo Qianyun replied.
“Are you afraid I’ll break my word?” Lu Yunzheng asked.
“I just know it, there’s no need to say it out loud, it would hurt feelings,” Luo Qianyun replied. “Eat more, it’s good to eat well before sleeping.”
Hearing her words, Lu Yunzheng lightly curved his lips. “If this were a different time and place, I would actually like that sentence of yours.”
“Which sentence?” Luo Qianyun asked, confused.
“That last sentence you just said,” Lu Yunzheng replied.
“Eat more, eat well to sleep?” Luo Qianyun was a bit puzzled.
But the next moment… she seemed to get it.
Her face turned slightly red as she muttered softly, “At this time, still thinking about those things?”
“Don’t worry, right now I only want to sleep,” Lu Yunzheng said.
That was true, after all, it had been so long…
Luo Qianyun thought about it and then picked some meat from her bowl and placed it into Lu Yunzheng’s. “Eat more meat, get some nutrition.”
“You should eat more too.” Lu Yunzheng said as he peeled shrimp from his bowl and put it in Luo Qianyun’s, also peeling all the shrimp in her bowl for her.
After they finished eating, Luo Qianyun did what she said and kept an eye on Lu Yunzheng to make sure he rested.
Since the abandoned elementary school wasn’t very large, the rest areas were set on the third floor. The rest area for the rescue team was even simpler than that of the civilians, just a mat on the floor, and in some places, just a layer of cloth.
But no one minded, because they were all exhausted—so long as it didn’t leak rain, they could sleep anywhere.
Luo Qianyun didn’t delay Lu Yunzheng’s rest when she saw him lying down and left.
On her way downstairs, she met the hurried Lin Xiaowan, “Dr. Luo, Team Leader Dong asked you to come for a meeting.”
“A meeting?” Luo Qianyun was a little confused but quickly headed back.
The meeting was being held because their medical team needed to send two doctors and two nurses to accompany the rescue team to a children’s orphanage for rescue work.
The orphanage, originally located at a higher altitude, was thought to be out of harm’s way, but the situation was now dire, and the orphanage’s director had called for help.
The director had specifically requested medical staff because the children had suffered a range of issues during the typhoon disaster. Most were frightened, but some had minor injuries due to the collapse of a low building at the orphanage, which had trapped several children.
Despite their injuries, the children hadn’t shown any signs of distress, so the director hadn’t noticed.
The plan was to head to the orphanage while it was still light, using rubber boats for transportation, which would take about an hour. They would stay there for the night, treat the children, and return to the camp by morning.
After explaining the situation, Dr. Dong looked at the group, “This is voluntary, but one spot needs to be given to the emergency surgery department. Dr. Luo and Dr. Xu, one of you should go. Whatever the situation, you’ll be able to handle it.”
Hearing this, Luo Qianyun and Xu Jia exchanged a glance. It wasn’t hard to guess why it was them—they weren’t specialists in one particular field.
As for who would go, Dr. Dong let them decide themselves. Luo Qianyun and Xu Jia stared at each other…
“I don’t mind,” Xu Jia said.
“Then I’ll go?” Luo Qianyun said simply.
Xu Jia thought for a moment. “Is it because of your husband?”
Luo Qianyun paused slightly. “It’s actually not. I don’t know who else is going over there.”
But thinking about it, it was quite likely that Lu Yunzheng might be leading the team?
After all, since they couldn’t leave, the rescue efforts had become less chaotic as time passed.
Xu Jia didn’t dwell on it, figuring that if Luo Qianyun wanted to go, she should go.
The remaining three spots were taken by those who volunteered. Dr. Dong matched them based on their specialties, with one being a digestive doctor who had a minor in psychology.
The two nurses were both emergency nurses, one of whom was Luo Qianyun’s acquaintance, Lin Xiaowan.
The departure time was in half an hour, so Luo Qianyun and the others quickly prepared the necessary medical supplies.
When it was time to leave, they grabbed their medical kits and headed to meet up with the rescue team.
Sure enough, the leader was a familiar face…
Lu Yunzheng saw Luo Qianyun coming and was a bit surprised.
After handing over the four medical staff to Lu Yunzheng, Dr. Dong reminded him to take good care of them before heading back to the medical area.
Indeed, he had to be careful, especially since three of the four were women and only one of them, the digestive doctor, was a man.
Lu Yunzheng took the medical kit from Luo Qianyun’s hands and, seeing this, two other people quickly took the kits from the nurses.
Only the male digestive doctor still carried his own kit, but out of courtesy, Bai Minghui stepped forward to help, “I’ll do it.”
“No, it’s fine…” the male doctor said awkwardly.
“It’s okay, everyone gets treated equally, you too,” Bai Minghui smiled.
The male doctor gave a slightly embarrassed smile, feeling that something was a bit off.
Lu Yunzheng counted that 19 people were ready to depart. After walking for a while, they saw the ten rubber boats neatly lined up.
“Two people per boat, get on,” Lu Yunzheng ordered.
He looked directly at Luo Qianyun, “You’re with me.”
The digestive doctor and the other nurse, who were unaware of their relationship, looked at them curiously. Luo Qianyun hurriedly said, “No need, we can all just take one boat together.”
But the next moment, Lu Yunzheng directly dismissed that idea, “You’ll row too slowly on your own. You four should each take one boat.”
Then he turned to Luo Qianyun, “Come with me.”
Originally, she thought she could avoid any awkwardness, but now it seemed there was no avoiding it…
Lu Yunzheng and Lao Chen quickly put on their life jackets. After passing the medical kit to Lao Chen, Lu Yunzheng turned around, quickly helped Luo Qianyun into her life jacket, and assisted her onto the boat. “Take your time.”
Lin Xiaowan, having seen Lu Yunzheng at the hospital, wasn’t surprised by this, but the other two were shocked. The nurse asked Lin Xiaowan, “Xiaowan, does Dr. Luo already know that rescue team leader?”
Lin Xiaowan nodded, “That’s Dr. Luo’s husband, the one they’re legally married.”
The nurse was shocked, “Dr. Luo has kept this a secret?”
“She didn’t know he was here before she came, but she probably wanted to avoid suspicion, so she didn’t mention it,” Lin Xiaowan explained.
But she understood Luo Qianyun’s reasoning—after all, who would announce such things unless asked?
