Chapter 115: Are You Really My Biological Parents?
Luo Qianyun hadn’t expected to meet her biological parents at this moment.
Even more surprising—they weren’t complete strangers but two familiar faces.
Was it because the world was too small, or was it sheer coincidence?
Luo Qianyun’s stunned expression caught Lu Yunzheng’s attention. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
From Lu Yunzheng’s perspective, Luo Qianyun froze as soon as Su Hongsheng mentioned their names.
He vaguely recognized the names too. After all, while the capital city could feel vast, it was also surprisingly interconnected.
But given that Luo Qianyun had been living in City A, it seemed unlikely that their paths would have crossed, except for that one time…
Hearing Lu Yunzheng’s question brought Luo Qianyun back to her senses. She realized she hadn’t told him about finding her biological parents yet.
Both of them had been too busy, with little time together. Plus, Luo Qianyun had pushed this matter aside, planning to address it later.
She hadn’t expected them to come here…
“They…” Luo Qianyun hesitated, unsure of how to phrase it.
Her mind was a swirl of thoughts, recalling Meng Xian’s previous words, leaving her unsettled.
Not wanting to delay further, Luo Qianyun said to Lu Yunzheng, “You go ahead and eat. I’ll have a quick chat with them.”
With that, she stood up, looked at the two people, and gestured toward a quiet corner. “Mrs. Su, may I have a word?”
“Of course,” Meng Xian responded immediately. The couple followed Luo Qianyun to a secluded spot.
Lu Yunzheng watched the scene unfold, deep in thought.
Once they reached the quiet area, Luo Qianyun faced the two, her mind still in disarray, and asked, “Are you really my biological parents?”
“We were just as surprised when we received the call,” Su Hongsheng replied gently.
“You didn’t know beforehand?” Luo Qianyun pressed.
“Of course not. If we had known, we would’ve come looking for you long ago,” Meng Xian assured her.
Luo Qianyun wasn’t sure if she could believe them. “Previously, you told me about your daughter being abducted. At that time, did you really not know I was your daughter?”
She had always believed she was abandoned. But when Meng Xian mentioned that her daughter had been kidnapped by a heartless nanny, it ignited a glimmer of hope within her.
And yet, how could it be so coincidental that she turned out to be their daughter?
With so many coincidences, Luo Qianyun suspected they might have known in advance and deliberately brought up the story of the nanny to prepare her.
If that were true, then even the story’s authenticity could be questioned. After all, it’s common for people to embellish their stories in their favor.
Understanding her doubts, both Su Hongsheng and Meng Xian explained. Meng Xian said earnestly, “Qianyun, trust me, I would never lie to you. I know our story sounds too coincidental, but I see it as a blessing from heaven.”
“I’m grateful I met you early and had the chance to share my story about Niuniu. Even if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t regret it. We missed your entire childhood, arriving 20 years too late. I don’t expect you to accept us immediately, but I hope you’ll leave the door open, giving us a chance to make amends.”
Her voice was soft and gentle, but her eyes reddened as she spoke.
She tried to hold back, but she couldn’t.
This was the daughter she had yearned for and dreamed of for so many years.
She didn’t mind being misunderstood but was terrified of her daughter rejecting them.
To her, that would be more painful than death.
Looking at Meng Xian’s emotional state, Luo Qianyun couldn’t deny that she felt a twinge of emotion.
She had joined the Luo family at five years old. After that, her life revolved around school or spending time with her adoptive brother.
Her free time had always been dedicated to her brother. Her relationship with her adoptive parents wasn’t particularly close, but it wasn’t distant either.
She had witnessed other mother-daughter relationships, like her friend’s warm dynamic with her mother, Aunt Song. Luo Qianyun had envied that bond.
But she had always thought it was natural for her not to share such intimacy since she wasn’t her adoptive parents’ biological child.
That didn’t mean she hadn’t longed for it, though.
Her silence seemed to amplify Su Hongsheng and Meng Xian’s unease. Without consulting Meng Xian, Su Hongsheng quickly said, “Qianyun, if you’re not ready to accept us, that’s okay. Just think of us as your neighbors for now. We can take it slow.”
Meng Xian, though visibly disappointed, agreed. “Yes, we can take it step by step. If you really can’t accept us, we can just stay in touch as relatives.”
Seeing their humility and sincerity, Luo Qianyun sighed. “You’ve misunderstood me. I don’t hold any hostility toward you. It’s just that this came so suddenly. I’d planned to handle it after returning from the disaster area, so your arrival caught me off guard.”
“We were a bit impulsive,” Meng Xian admitted.
“It wasn’t reckless. I understand your eagerness. After all, you’ve been searching for over 20 years. For me, though, I never thought about finding my biological parents. To suddenly find you now feels… unfamiliar,” Luo Qianyun admitted with a wry smile.
“How about this,” Su Hongsheng suggested. “We won’t bring this up again for now. Once we’re back, we can sit down and have a proper conversation. In the meantime, we can use this time to get to know each other better.”
Luo Qianyun found his suggestion reasonable and agreed.
With her agreement, Meng Xian had no objections.
However, Meng Xian made one request—that Luo Qianyun stop calling her “Mrs. Su,” as it felt too distant.
When Luo Qianyun returned to the table, Lu Yunzheng had already finished breakfast.
Knowing he was waiting for an explanation, she sat down and said directly, “Lu Yunzheng, I think I’ve found my biological parents.”
“They’re the ones?” he asked.
“Yes,” Luo Qianyun confirmed with a nod. “It’s surprising. I planned to deal with it after we returned, but I didn’t expect them to come here.”
“That’s because you matter to them,” Lu Yunzheng said.
Recalling rumors about Su Hongsheng and Meng Xian, Lu Yunzheng chuckled. “If you’d grown up peacefully in the Su family, I’d have had a much harder time pursuing you.”
“Lack confidence in yourself?” Luo Qianyun teased, raising an eyebrow.
“It’s not about confidence. I know I got incredibly lucky,” Lu Yunzheng replied.
“Even childhood sweethearts wouldn’t have helped much since I joined the military when you were only 14. Making a move before that would’ve been downright predatory,” he joked, imagining the challenges he’d have faced.
