Chapter 118: Why Take Off Her Pants?
When Meng Xian scolded her face-to-face, the woman was furious.
“Who gave a mere volunteer the right to act so arrogant with me?”
Meng Xian retorted, “There’s no hierarchy here. Volunteers are here helping without expecting anything in return. But you, taking rescue supplies—where do you get the confidence to look down on others?”
“Don’t think just because you’re a doctor you can lecture me! People like you, who think contributing a little makes you superior, disgust me,” the woman sneered.
Someone in the crowd snapped, “Why don’t you contribute, then? All you do is run your mouth!”
“You’re all bullying me and my son, aren’t you? Believe me, I’ll record this and post it online. I’ve got hundreds of thousands of followers, and I’ll make sure you all get publicly shamed!” she threatened.
This immediately silenced the crowd; no one wanted to provoke a potential online storm.
As the woman gloated, Meng Xian and Luo Qianyun focused on calming Xiao Pingguo until she finally spoke. What she said made Luo Qianyun’s blood boil.
“He tried to pull down my pants,” Xiao Pingguo sobbed, her tears falling onto Luo Qianyun’s hand.
After some coaxing, they pieced together the story.
The toy Transformer indeed belonged to the boy, but he had given it to Xiao Pingguo to lure her into a secluded corner. There, he tried to pull down her pants, claiming she had agreed.
Despite her young age, Xiao Pingguo remembered the repeated warnings from the orphanage director: Never let anyone remove your pants. Scared, she hit the boy with the toy and ran, but he grabbed her, causing her to fall and cry, triggering the earlier chaos.
Once the truth came out, the crowd turned against the boy and his mother.
“This is a lie! She’s blaming my son to avoid trouble,” the woman stubbornly insisted.
The crowd wasn’t convinced. Someone remarked, “That boy looks about 8 or 9. At that age, it’s not impossible for him to be curious about such things.”
Luo Qianyun directly confronted the boy. “Why did you try to take her pants off?”
“I didn’t!” the boy denied.
“Then how did she get the toy? Don’t tell me she stole it. If she could take it from you, then you’re pretty useless,” Luo Qianyun shot back.
The boy, flustered, blurted, “She couldn’t take it! I gave it to her!”
“Why would you give her your toy, especially one that looks so new?” Luo pressed.
The boy squirmed under the interrogation until he snapped, “So what if I tried to take her pants off? It’s no big deal! You adults are making a fuss over nothing!”
The woman, momentarily stunned by her son’s admission, quickly shielded him. “Fine, fine. We’re in the wrong. We’ll compensate her—1,000 yuan should be enough. It’s not like she suffered any real harm, and she hit my son too!”
Luo Qianyun’s tone turned icy. “You’d better educate your son. If you don’t correct him now, this kind of behavior could lead to something far worse in the future.”
“How I raise my son is none of your business!” the woman snapped.
Luo sneered, “You think it’s no big deal now. Let’s see if you feel the same when someone tricks him into taking his pants off someday.”
“You—! I’ll file a complaint against you!”
“Go ahead,” Luo said coolly. “I have the moral high ground here. The only one in the wrong is you. If anyone gets shamed online, it’ll be you.”
The woman huffed, “I have hundreds of thousands of followers!”
“So what? Do you think all your followers are brainless enough to blindly support you?” Luo retorted.
From the side, Xu Jia added indifferently, “Hundreds of thousands of followers? That’s impressive.”
Luo, curious, asked, “How many followers do you have?”
“A few hundred,” Xu Jia replied.
Luo was momentarily speechless until Xu Jia continued, “But my cousin has over 10 million followers, my dad has several million, and plenty of doctors and nurses at our hospital have tens of thousands or more.”
Hearing this, the woman paled, realizing her bluster wouldn’t work. She grabbed her son and left, humiliated.
Meng Xian comforted Xiao Pingguo, praising her for standing up for herself and reminding her to always do the same.
Later, over dinner, Luo Qianyun asked Meng Xian, “What do you think of Xiao Pingguo?”
“She’s so sweet and adorable,” Meng Xian said with a smile.
Actually, if you like, you can adopt her.” Luo Qianyun thought about it and said that it would not be a problem for the Su family to adopt a child.
