Chapter 4: Calm, Rational, and Radiantly Bright
After settling into the tent, Luo Qianyun surveyed the surroundings, “It’s about right. You can bring your friend in.”
“No rush,” Lu Yunzheng replied.
Luo Qianyun paused, her hand hovering over the medical kit, but she forced a calm demeanor, “Still, hurry up. Aren’t you worried about your friend’s condition?”
Lu Yunzheng observed Luo Qianyun’s slightly stiff back, thoughtfully, “Did you hitch a ride earlier?”
Gripping the tweezers in her hand, Luo Qianyun hummed in affirmation.
“No need to be so guarded, we’re soldiers,” Lu Yunzheng said.
Although Luo Qianyun had some suspicions, hearing Lu Yunzheng confirm it, she finally let out a sigh of relief.
Soldiers, in Luo Qianyun’s eyes, were the most reliable beings.
And he, indeed, had a very military air about him.
Seeing that Luo Qianyun seemed to relax a bit, Lu Yunzheng said directly, “Take care of your own injuries first. Use whatever you need in here. Once you’re done, help Tiger.”
Luo Qianyun hadn’t expected Lu Yunzheng to be concerned about her injuries.
Her thigh wound was no joke, but she knew they were strangers, so she intended to help them first and then borrow their medicine.
However, she hadn’t expected him to let her tend to her own wounds first, before helping them…
This man, though seemingly cold and unapproachable, and not a talkative person, was surprisingly reliable.
However, she still had to ask, “That… can I have some anesthetic?”
After asking, Luo Qianyun thought for a moment and explained, “This level of anesthetic, even if you use the whole bottle on your friend’s gunshot wound, he’ll still feel pain. It’s probably only a little less painful than using two-thirds of it. So, can I…”
Even as she spoke, Luo Qianyun felt a little embarrassed, but she really couldn’t bear to stitch up her wound without anesthetic…
Lu Yunzheng immediately guessed what she intended to use the anesthetic for, “Alright, you decide on that.”
“Thank you, Captain Lu.” Luo Qianyun smiled brightly, her whole demeanor becoming more radiant.
Previously, Luo Qianyun had given Lu Yunzheng the impression of a guarded, yet calm girl.
She understood that the exchange of benefits was the best way to protect herself.
Calm, rational, and with a touch of stubbornness.
But just now, he discovered that perhaps those were just facets of her. When she smiled, her eyes were like sunshine, dazzlingly bright.
“Captain Lu? What’s wrong?” Luo Qianyun tilted her head slightly, looking at him with confusion.
“Nothing,” Lu Yunzheng collected his thoughts, “I’ll go get you some water. Clean yourself up, after all, hygiene is important during surgery.”
Luo Qianyun nodded, then watched as Lu Yunzheng left the tent.
Now, Luo Qianyun was finally at ease. When she got home, she would have to settle the score with Lu Yan and Pei Xianxian.
Seeing Lu Yunzheng come out of the tent, Bai Minghui was setting a pot on the fire to boil water, “Captain, shouldn’t we let the young lady eat something before she works? If she’s hungry, what if she can’t hold the knife steady?”
Lu Yunzheng had actually forgotten about eating, “Make some extra porridge for her and Tiger. I’ll let her take care of her wounds first.”
“Right, I almost forgot, she’s injured herself. Still, our Captain Lu knows how to care for people,” Bai Minghui teased.
“Feeling itchy?” Lu Yunzheng asked.
“No, no, no,” he said, but his expression clearly said otherwise.
Before tending to her wounds, Luo Qianyun used the water Lu Yunzheng brought in to wash her hands and face. The water turned black after washing…
“If I don’t wash properly, I guess he’d be afraid I’d infect his friend’s wound, right?” Luo Qianyun muttered softly.
When Lu Yunzheng brought in hot water again, Luo Qianyun looked up at him, “My wounds will take about an hour to treat. You can help your friend with physical cooling first.”
“Can’t he take fever medicine?” Lu Yunzheng asked.
“Well, if he takes fever medicine before anesthesia, it could worsen the side effects of the medicine and affect its effectiveness,” Luo Qianyun explained.
Seeing her say this, Lu Yunzheng didn’t say anything more.
However, as he left the tent, Lu Yunzheng couldn’t help but think of Luo Qianyun’s clean face. He had guessed she was good-looking, but he hadn’t expected her to be this beautiful…
Bai Minghui brought a highly absorbent towel. Seeing him about to enter the tent, Lu Yunzheng stopped him without hesitation, “She’s treating her wounds.”
He hadn’t forgotten that Luo Qianyun’s most serious wound was on her thigh. To treat it, she would inevitably have to…
So, it wasn’t appropriate for someone to go in.
“I know, but she’s cleaning her wounds in the tent, she should still need a highly absorbent towel. We don’t have other supplies, but we have to provide towels, right?” As he spoke, Bai Minghui shoved the towel into Lu Yunzheng’s hand, “I’ll go make noodles for us. Captain, the towel is yours.”
Bai Minghui’s words were reasonable. Lu Yunzheng thought for a moment and turned back to the tent.
When she heard Lu Yunzheng’s inquiry, Luo Qianyun was about to take off her pants, but thankfully, she wasn’t that fast.
Stopping her action in time, Luo Qianyun pretended to search the medical kit, “Come in.”
“This towel is highly absorbent,” Lu Yunzheng said, handing the towel to Luo Qianyun, then turned and left.
“It’s stiff,” Luo Qianyun muttered softly, but it was reassuring.
If anyone else, someone more talkative, was here, she would be more anxious.
This was good, it gave her peace of mind.
However, from the moment she started cleaning her wounds, Luo Qianyun couldn’t smile anymore. The pain made her tears flow uncontrollably.
The scratches and bites on her body, she could endure.
But the torn wound on her thigh made her tremble with pain when she cleaned it with water.
Her hands shook, her legs shook, and her tears flowed freely.
She couldn’t control it at all, she could only cry while cleaning her wounds, cursing Lu Yan to distract herself a little.
Even so, after several rounds of cleaning, her eyes were sore from crying.
Looking at her torn thigh flesh, she had no doubt that if she hadn’t forced the wild wolf to release its grip, the flesh would have been torn off.
After giving herself a third of the anesthetic, Luo Qianyun waited for it to take effect, finally getting a break and letting her mind go blank for a while.
But she couldn’t empty her mind. She thought about her years at the Luo family.
Actually, from the age of five when she was taken in by the Luo family, until she was eighteen, she was the pampered daughter of the Luo family.
Plus, she was also talented, excelling in her studies and mastering various skills. She was the ‘other people’s daughter’ that parents talked about.
Luo Fu and Luo Mu were happy to be envied by others, after all, raising such an outstanding daughter was something worth showing off.
But Luo Qianyun knew better. At the beginning, the Luo family took her in, not because they missed their daughter too much after she was kidnapped.
But because of her brother, Luo Qi.
