Chapter 54: Uncle San, She’s Gone Too Far!
“Uncle San, she’s gone too far!” Lu Yan gritted his teeth.
“Lu Yan, it’s just a title. Do you have to let it affect our marital relationship?” Lu Yunzheng said coldly, clearly displeased.
“…” Lu Yan was furious. What a man blinded by lust!
How was it just a title? It was clearly an insult to him!
Lu Yan glared angrily at Luo Qianyun, who returned his gaze with a provocative look, the tension between them unrelenting.
The stalemate continued until Luo’s mother appeared, seeing the three of them in the hallway. “Lu Yan, you’re here? What’s going on?”
“Nothing.” Seizing the opportunity, Lu Yan brushed past the two of them and left.
For him, the situation was too humiliating.
Luo Qianyun and Lu Yunzheng didn’t linger either, turning around and heading downstairs.
But Luo Qianyun couldn’t shake off the suspicion that Luo’s mother had heard everything. After all, she had been at the door for quite a while and chose this precise moment to come out…
She must have thought she’d heard enough, right?
As they descended the stairs, Luo Qianyun noticed Luo’s father looking at Lu Yunzheng with a newfound intensity.
It seemed that Luo’s mother had already told Luo’s father about Lu Yunzheng’s identity.
The connection between Lu Yan’s family and the prominent Lu family of Shangjing wasn’t a secret. With Lu Yan addressing Lu Yunzheng as “Uncle San,” and Lu Yunzheng’s ancestral ties to Shangjing, it was hard not to connect the dots.
Now aware of Lu Yunzheng’s background, the Luo family had new plans.
After all, even if Luo Qianyun remarried after a divorce, it was unlikely she’d find someone more influential than the Lu family of Shangjing. Besides, leaving on bad terms would only invite resentment.
It seemed more prudent to let things take their course, allowing the Luo family to strengthen ties with the Lu family.
Clearly, Luo’s father was much more enthusiastic toward Lu Yunzheng after they came downstairs.
On the other hand, Luo Qianyun felt uninterested, unwilling to waste time discussing trivial matters.
During Luo’s father’s conversation with Lu Yunzheng, he casually brought up a recent Lu Corporation project. Many enterprises in City A were eager to collaborate on it.
“If the competition is evenly matched, I believe my elder brother would prefer to work with your family,” Lu Yunzheng remarked.
Hearing this, a glimmer of delight flashed in Luo’s father’s eyes.
However, Luo Qianyun frowned slightly.
Nearby, Lu Yan, who was also a competitor, couldn’t help but scowl as he glanced at Lu Yunzheng…
Yet Lu Yunzheng seemed oblivious to everyone’s reactions. Instead, he glanced at the time and said, “It’s getting late. Qianqian and I should head back now.”
Luo’s father escorted them to the door, watching their car drive away before turning back inside.
In the car, Luo Qianyun couldn’t help but ask, “Why did you promise my dad something like that on behalf of your brother?”
“Is it a problem?” Lu Yunzheng countered.
“First, I don’t want you helping the Luo family. Second, it’s your brother’s company in the end. I’m worried this could create conflict between you two,” Luo Qianyun said, concerned about the complexities of family power dynamics in wealthy families.
Hearing this, Lu Yunzheng explained, “Actually, this project was designed for the Luo family from the beginning. When I last visited home, my elder brother mentioned it to me.”
Hearing this, Luo Qianyun was stunned. “Why would your brother do that?”
“Because you’re an adopted daughter of the Luo family. No matter what happens, the fact that they raised you won’t change. Since I married a daughter of the Luo family, it’s only fair to have an equivalent exchange. This project is the Lu family’s compensation to the Luo family. Do you know why there needs to be an exchange?” Lu Yunzheng asked.
Luo Qianyun shook her head honestly.
“Because only through this exchange can we retaliate if they try to manipulate you again. We won’t be beholden to their ‘debt of raising you,’” Lu Yunzheng explained.
“So it’s calculated like this?” Luo Qianyun was surprised.
“But being too clever can backfire. They might not accept our goodwill,” Lu Yunzheng added.
As it turned out, he was right.
In the Luo family living room, Luo’s father, mother, Pei Xianxian, and Lu Yan sat on the sofa.
While Luo’s father was still basking in the joy of potentially securing the project, Pei Xianxian remarked, “Dad, you shouldn’t be so easily fooled by them.”
Hearing this, Luo’s father sobered up. “What do you mean?”
“Qianyun almost suffered terribly because of us before. Do you think Lu Yunzheng would be so kind?” Pei Xianxian pointed out.
“There might be a trap,” Lu Yan chimed in.
Luo’s father frowned; the thought hadn’t escaped him either.
Frustrated, Lu Yan stood up and left without saying much.
After he left, Luo’s mother sighed, “I never expected Qianyun to have such deep ties with the Lu family. First Lu Yan, and now Lu Yunzheng.”
“Compared to Lu Yunzheng, what does Lu Yan amount to?” Luo’s father remarked disdainfully. With Lu Yunzheng as a benchmark, Lu Yan paled in comparison.
He turned to Pei Xianxian. “Xianxian, in a few days, go out with your mother to meet some new people. Don’t just stay at home all the time.”
Pei Xianxian froze. “Dad, are you telling me to go on blind dates?”
“Do you really plan to get involved with Lu Yan? You’re our biological daughter. Whoever you marry must at least match Lu Yunzheng,” Luo’s father said firmly.
Hearing this, Luo’s mother hesitated to speak.
She knew all too well that, due to recent scandals, many in their social circle knew about Pei Xianxian and Lu Yan’s entanglement.
Finding someone better than Lu Yunzheng would be no easy task. Even if Pei Xianxian liked them, it was unlikely they’d feel the same.
After leaving the Luo family, Lu Yunzheng drove Luo Qianyun to the central park.
It was a summer evening, and the park was bustling with walkers, playful children, and elderly people enjoying the night breeze, as well as some young couples on dates.
“What made you think of bringing me here for a walk?” Luo Qianyun asked with a smile.
“There’s a performance tonight. I thought you might enjoy it,” Lu Yunzheng said, aware of the limited time he had to spend with her.
“A performance?” Luo Qianyun was curious.
“There’s a ‘firework forge’ show and a ‘phoenix flying’ performance,” Lu Yunzheng explained.
Hearing this, Luo Qianyun grew intrigued. “Phoenix flying? What’s that?”
“It’s a drone show,” Lu Yunzheng replied.
As they strolled along the gravel path, the cool evening breeze brought a refreshing touch.
When children ran past them, Lu Yunzheng would carefully shield her.
After a while, Lu Yunzheng glanced at her and asked, “Have you ever thought about finding your biological parents?”
Hearing this, Luo Qianyun paused slightly. “I never told you, but I was abandoned by them…”
Recalling her time at the orphanage, Luo Qianyun’s heart ached. “I think it’s probably because I’m a girl. Maybe I should be thankful that they only abandoned me and didn’t drown me.
